Illegal Tampering

I am writing this to warn others about ENGIE’s deceptive business practices. I was recently alerted to the fact that ENGIE attempted to hijack my electricity connection.

No Consent: I have never spoken to an ENGIE representative or agreed to any terms.

Unauthorised Cancellation: They contacted my actual provider to cancel my service without my authorisation.

Physical Tampering: They sent someone to my property’s power box to facilitate a switch I never requested.

This is a clear violation of consumer rights. I am currently reporting this to the Energy and Water Ombudsman. Beware of their "scam" tactics to pad their customer list.

“$185 More on My Gas Bill

“$185 More on My Gas Bill – Unfair Pricing!”

Winter bill
I was shocked when I compared my gas bills year-on-year — my usage barely changed, but I was charged $185 more this year!

I contacted their customer service for an explanation, but the response was slow and vague. This feels like a hidden price hike or poor billing practice.

If you use [Engie gas Company check your bills carefully. Even small discrepancies can quickly add up to hundreds of dollars. Customers deserve transparent and fair pricing, and in my experience, that’s not happening here.

And won’t Amit liability
Also Engie be taken to court South Australia with government price gauging

They live in 1800 or something and refuse to speak English

I needed support from them and do not speak their language. So I contacted them in English, my 3rd language and the international language of business. One they're supposed to be good at in that country. But they refused to speak to me over chat. Unreal.

Called to close my account - and they didn't. Follow-up added

Called and closed my account to be effective mid-August 2025. Get a bill in September for electric and gas - they never turned it off after I moved out. As I haven't had time to call, made an in-app enquiry saying I wanted that account closed ASAP. They closed the enquiry without the decency of sending ANY response. I miss Simply - that was a good company. This new ENGIE mob are rip-off artists and have no interest in customer service.

I did get a call from customer service and the case manager was responsive, attentive, easy to work with. Within an hour she had it straightened out and bills adjusted. I gave her feedback and will share it here...if I had gotten half the care from previous service reps, I would still be with Engie. She went above and beyond responding back leaving the door open to a return. Well done. Five stars for the case manager Sia.

AVOID like the plague

AVOID like the plague. If there was a ZERO I'd have give that. Our energy broker switched our business to Engie in November 2024. Standing charges are horrendous (to improve the infrastructure apparently - yeah right)!! Have been complaining about our smart meter not sending readings (therefore, not smart) since November 24. They don't respond to complaints, sending a reader guy monthly (sometimes twice monthly which isn't meant to happen) and charging £30 per visit (have charged for 2 visits in a month but reader guy only came once - keeping record of all the dates). Complained about these charges, again no response whatsoever. Had an engineer actually come and look at the meter 24th of August, confirmed meter would be replaced by 4G Smart meter and a month on, Engie still haven't managed to book the job on their system or provide a date for the work. Going to the energy ombudsman as 10 months on I'm fed up of chasing and no reply/result. Also looking at avenues to claim extortionate standing charge fees back as wasn't highlighted on entering into the contract and for them to say it's to improve infrastructure, SORT MY METER then? TERRIBLE COMPANY - AVOID AVOID AVOID

Awful company. Take your money then ignore you

They took over 700 Euros from my account even though my flat was empty and the meters showed I was in credit.
All based on estimates.
Refuse to reimburse, they reply to one message then disappear.
Next they want my meters readings, I give them, they ignore the readings. I write again, and I get the same response, send us your meters' readings.
done it 3 times.
Meanwhile they still demand monthly payments on account.
I'm in credit! I have more than a year's energy covered.
Absolutely awful company.

signed up with this electricity company…

signed up with this electricity company and asked to transfer my service. I clearly told them I was moving to a new place and wanted the electricity at my old location disconnected, and the service transferred to my new address. But what they actually did was keep the old location active while also starting the new one. As a result, I got charged for both locations at the same time.

When you request a transfer, instead of helping you, they use it as an excuse to overcharge you. You might think you’re getting a cheaper rate at first, but in the end you’ll end up paying twice as much as with other companies.

⚠️ Do not trust this company. They play games with billing and take advantage of customers. This feels like fraud, and honestly I hope someone files a lawsuit against them for what they’re doing.

This company are the absolute worst-…

This company are the absolute worst- don't get involved with them under any circumstances. From unreasonable price increases to indifferent, obfuscatory 'customer service', it would be hard to find a worse supplier. Engie are basically rogue operators who are either unwilling or unable to even meet their statutory obligations. Don't even think about signing up with these bad faith pirates.

A definite rouge company

A definite rouge company, look at their ratings, I’ve never seen worse !

My previous review of this horrendous FRENCH company, dated the 10th June 2025, tells you everything you need to know about this nightmare company and I confirm please don’t use them.

Please look at my review, look at all the other reviews, you’ll find that their contemp of the British people is to reply to your complaints in French, what utter morons.

Although our complaint is now with the Energy Ombudsman, it’s been with Engie for months, they mostly don’t reply. As I said their ratings are the worst you could imagine (please check that out) I currently looking to see what the energy regulator can do, can they be struck off and actively look a all legal options to see what can be done.

But I’ve said enough, we’ll wait for progress in forcing then to being on honest and fair company, obviously not holding me breath and waiting for their insidious french reply.

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY, you would regret it like every other review on here will confirm.

Worst customer experience!

Engie was a poor experience from start to finish. I bought a property and setup an account with Engie with the date I was to move. Instead of waiting till the date, they immediately transitioned the account to me. When I informed them they took the account out of my name and began harassing the current owners to take out an account. When help tickets were logged, instead of seeking to understand if the issue was resolved, they simply closed the call, so you need to log another because they didn’t resolve the issue. Lastly, they advertised a 16% discount for NRMA customers. When the invoice came in, it was 11%. I sent a copy of the email from NRMA, they weren’t interested. Worst customer experience ever!

Cowboys

Avoid. They put a commercial energy for a residential property into my name without my knowledge and are trying to charge me nearly 4k of gas for a rental that had a new tenant in. Will not take complaints and say they only have feedback. Here’s some feedback… You’re cowboys! Anyone reading this just look at the reviews and their £5.34 standing charge and run.

UNJUSTIFIED MASSIVE PRICE INCREASE

UNJUSTIFIED MASSIVE PRICE INCREASE, VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NON EXISTENT RESOLUTION PROCESS. OWED $3000
Being charged double, for being a loyal pay on time customer that doesn’t read their bills word for word trusting Engie would be fair. $3000 mistake. Spent hours trying to resolve issue unsuccessfully, being stonewalled by the representatives, often being palmed off to sales, being told I will receive a phone call on a certain day and an exact time from a supervisor which never happened. They won’t discuss this and their reason for increase via email, telling me it is not possible to email. Yet I receive my bills via email. My rates have doubled ( 100% increase in 2.5 years) Best they could do was send me a generic email stating various reasons why prices may rise. However if my bill only increased due to their reasons stated for the price increases, if applied to my original rate would only net a few % increase over 2.5years not 100%. They have absolutely unjustifiably extorted me for $3000.
Yet they have another plan that is only 6% higher than my old rate. They couldn’t explain why my rates all of a sudden started to increase over 10 times more than the actual wholesale supply increases.
At this point Google reviews, social media, Energy Ombudsman and Australian Consumer Commission are my only options to get action as Engie representatives won’t connect me with a manager or supervisor capable of doing anything other than telling me they can sign me up to a much cheaper plan, ignoring the fact I’ve been unjustifiably overcharged for 2.5years.
Engie I await contact from you at your earliest convenience to resolve this matter and refund me atleast $3000.

What disturbs me is that there must be many other unaware Engie customers being ripped off that are struggling to survive that could do with saving the extra $1000 a year or more that Engie is over charging them.

RAA no longer affiliate themselves with Engie due to Engie’s poor customer service and overcharging.

Absolutely awful company to deal with

Absolutely awful company to deal with. No help with complaints. Had to ring them three times to raise it.
Was mis sold a blend and extend contract with the previous supplier who went into administration and ended up with Engie. They are double to price of kw and standing charge of any other company. Currently with the ombersman, but do not take a contract out with this company. There is no customer service and they are the most expensive energy provider on the market.

Worst company: Someone else said this and I have to agree

Someone else said this:

Worst company to deal with. Customer service is non existent. You enquire about something and they close out the case without even answering the question.

I have to agree 100%. They are incapable of setting up my gas connection (despite much back and forth) and now have set up the incorrect meter AND charged me for it haha! They closed my enquiry after solving one part and then ignored my request in bold and underline (because it was ignored once already) for them to cancel the incorrect, double charged bill (as I know for a fact that the previous landowner is STILL paying the gas bill and definitely for the period Engie has billed me for).

They left out my $250 Black Friday credit for opening the account, and when they gave it back to me they used it to pay for that bill above. What a joke.
