I took the Duolingo English Test and my result was invalidated, claiming I used predictive text or other assistance, which I absolutely did not. It’s impossible to use other tools during the test, yet they refused to provide proof, kept my payment, and told me to buy another test.

The advertised price was $70 but I was charged $110. This is the second time I’ve lost money due to their mistakes and system limitations. I chose this test because it was cheaper than IELTS, but now I believe this is a tactic to make people pay multiple times.

I will never take this test again and will share my experience so others can avoid the same mistake.

I took this test twice but was not provided with the five key scores I needed in order to succeed. Later, I also found out that it is not widely recognised by major universities. I scored 100 in the Production section, but I needed 105. Despite trying twice, I couldn’t reach the required score. all other scores where 125, 135. I took this test last on January 13, 2024

In contrast, I took the IELTS and achieved a 7.5 in all four bands — and that was without much preparation or practice.

I purchased their tests but the programme kept crashing near the end. Their support team insisted this was due to my internet connection even though I provided speed tests showing that my internet was fine. That’s $120 I’ll never see again! Don’t buy their tests!!

The test seems fine and user friendly. But the rules are vague and assume that a first time user will anticipate things like "turn off your predictive text". If you start the test and realize the predictive text is on, then it's too late anyway.... you can't get out of the test and the test will be invalidate. You just threw 70$ in the trash. Reaching out to costumer services is also pointless because they have pre-written responses to turn down any further reimbursement request. It's quite upsetting. I really don't recommend.

I've paid for a subscription for the second year, however when I tried the verbe imperfect past, my answer is correct but DUOLINGO DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO CONTINUE', because 'THEY HAVE had THE ACCEPTANCE OR REJECTUON for the answer BLOCKED FOR ALMOST ONE WEEK THAT I 'VE BEEN TRYING TO MOVE ANEAD! Example: My answer is CORRECT!:Je trvaillais; tu travaillais; elle travaillait. The site stops me for continuing and finish the fifteen lesson of the advance second part of French! They do this all the time. I will not renew again! Just find and try "French Automatique" in you tube.com!!! My experince with the above has repeaed for 6 days before today! DUO DOES NOT KEEP THEIR LEARNING SITE UP TO DATE!

The test is average. However, my test was invalid because I had apps in the background (antivirus and onedrive???). The whole session is recorded, and I didn't use any other app. It is stupid to think I was able to use something to cheat on the test quickly. I never had an issue with other tests.

This is allegedly an absolute scam. The whole operation appears to be designed to make you fail at least the first exam, forcing you to buy another one. Most respected English tests are ones you essentially own or can retake for a minimal retry fee. They allegedly use any accusation they can find to claim you did not follow their rules, which forces you to pay again. STAY AWAY FROM IT and consider other respected tests with free or minimal retry fees. Allegedly, they engage in questionable practices by acting as though you have no right to a refund and claiming that you are not allowed to contact them again. They use marketing tactics that could make you believe you can’t get a refund, yet they may be failing to provide evidence as required by law.

They didn't want to certify the test results as they claimed I used an automatic spelling device during the test. While I know this isn't the case, I asked for evidence which they failed to provide. I then asked as a compromise to retake the test (without paying of course as they claimed something went wrong which they coudn't justify) which they refused.

Bottom-line: you pay circa 70€ to take a test, get rejected on alledged suspicion of fraud, and get offer the possibility, well, to continue paying to retake another test!!

Just avoid and focus on more reliable providers.

My screen keeps freezing after few questions. I have restarted the app and the phone numerous times and it's still happening. It is terrible insert all the informations again and again. Taking pictures of my documents and myself.

Shame on you, scammers. I trusted you to take the exam and you scammed me. to anyone thinking of the Duolingo English shit. It's a scam. don't ever think about It. go and take a real and honest test instead of these scammers.

Scam Alert

I purchased the Duolingo English Test, but after taking it, I didn’t receive my results. I was told my writing and speaking didn’t match, despite doing everything myself. I appealed multiple times, but they didn’t give me another chance. Even after buying a second test, I faced the same issue with no results. After reading other reviews, I found that many people had the same problem. Duolingo English Test seems to be unreliable and unfair. I do not recommend it at all.

DO NOT BUY ANY TEST FROM DUOLINGO ENGLISH TEST

Total scam. They rejected my test based on unproven and biased accusations, forcing me to retake it and pay again. Customer service is completely unresponsive. Do not choose Duolingo.

If I could, I would have given it negative points. Total Scam!!
At first, they verified me with my passport, then, they kept rejecting my passport and they said I tampered with my passport and their final decision was to ban me and even not pay a refund. They are totally scamming people and even though I provided them all the necessary documents, they did not accept my IDs. I repeat it, DO NOT BUY ANY TEST FROM DUOLINGO ENGLISH TEST, IT WILL SCAM YOU TOO.

I'm really disappointed with my experience taking the Duolingo English Test. Despite a stable internet connection, I was frequently disconnected and eventually lost access to the test, along with the credits I had purchased. The customer support, though polite, adhered strictly to policies that offered me no solutions, citing my use of multiple accounts as a reason to block one of them. This lack of flexibility and understanding for issues outside my control has left me frustrated and let down. I had hoped for more supportive customer service. I urge Duolingo to reconsider how they handle technical issues and customer concerns.

Do not pay Duolingo English test for same day results.
I paid $104 for the Duolingo English Test, expecting “same-day results” as advertised. However, not only I didn't receive my results within promised 12 hours, but their support system is fully run by AI.
The AI lied being a human, and them backed up when confronted. Emails to their “24/7 support” went unanswered, and there’s no way to reach a real person.
11 hours later, I received an email—clearly automated—claiming my ID was unclear, delaying my results for indefinite time. Not money back. Not refunds.
This lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable, especially for an expensive service that many people rely on for educational or professional purposes.
Think twice before trusting Duolingo English Test with their money.

Absolute money grabber.
I got a test invalidated because "You had a pen or a pencil or a piece of paper on your desk".
Absolutely hilarious, as I was sitting on the floor of an empty room.

Upon asking to provide a proof of what they were claiming, they were unable to provide any.

Besides, the test quality is also rather questionable.
It is very fast-paced, and being PC-based, it therefore is implicitly biased towards rewarding fast typers.

Besides, they also gave the test results later than the advertised 24 hours maximum and suggested buying 12-hours result when I asked how long more I should wait.

Horrible money grab test that has no validity and doesn’t count for much.

You will not get access to your results and the grading criteria is not transparent. It’s better to take a test in person or some place else with a more credible institution.

They won’t certify your test the first time because they are looking for more money
