Amazing service with great features

I've been a paying user of Ente for about a year and a half now, and it has always been reliable. Every so often I open the app, and the backup of my newest photos and videos is completed within minutes.

The video streaming and on-device facial recognition features are very nice too. Though, I would like to have nested folders, as well as being able to edit facial recognition on the desktop app.

(Their auth app is great too)

Want nested folders? Keep looking.

Users have been begging for nested folders on GitHub, Reddit and elsewhere since at least early 2024, yet the flat album structure remains. It's incredibly frustrating that the Ente team seemingly couldn't care less about what their users want. They'd rather focus on shit no one asked for like facial recognition (creepadocious AF). Ignoring core usability requests makes it hard to recommend the product.

Good entrance. Average Stay. Bad exit.

Security and Zero Knowledge encryption is well implemented and this is the only reason you may want to use the service. The rest are a fail imo.

Editing tools are below basic.

The interface is not great, needs more clicks to navigate that it should.

Metadata is a mess, worse than google photos. Any metadata you change is not stored in file. Ente shows you the edited version which is not the file you will download.

Export is available only for all photos and you cannot choose what albums to export. Metadata are in json files that you have to find a way to update your photos with them as Ente didn't do it.

Saving a new photo after an edit will not copy metadata.

Downloading photos doesn't even give you the json file so any changes you made is not there.

What is the point making changes to date/time if you cant save them. Some formats cannot support metadata and thats where json helps but 99% (if not 100) of your photos support.

The worst part is that you realize this after you download your photos when you see a timeline mess. And then you have to do all the work again. I had to write a python script to do this as anything i tried was too much work and it was not 100% compatible.

I read on forums about these issues and all answers were that its how it works and reasons not to be fixed, means they wont be fixed anytime soon.

The CLI tool allows you to export albums but this has issues too and also wont save you work with metadata.

10GB free is ok to test but too low for photos. So if you want to use ente for your photos consider it as a paid service, which is ok, but with these issues is a no go for me.

Just awesome in every aspect

I really love Ente. Prices are just amazing and I uploaded my whole life in it. The plan includes family sharing. Every image is encrypted end to end which ensures high privacy.

Amazing company

I've been with Ente since June and since then they have been amazing. Uploading and downloading is very fast, their support is responsive in email and discord, and their community is quite active.

I've been a paying user since June, and the development of their service has been great since then, especially their on-device face and object recognition.

They are a good competitor and alternative to google and apple photos, if you're looking for an alternative, I'd recommend Ente.
