Not free

Website says it free filing but after you fill out paperwork they charge for state tax filing. Oh and federal is only free if you also do state, so basically it's not free at all, at any point. And you don't find out until the very end when they ask for money, however if you ask them to deduct the owed funds from your tax return then its an additional $40 charge on top of the $30 filing fee. So $70 to file taxes if you don't pay their ransom.

It's not even about the money, I'm just tired of the trickery. Why can't companies be straight forward? Gotta trick people after they put the work in, such a scummy move.

I used e-tax.com last year for my 2024…

I used e-tax.com last year for my 2024 tax return and was only charged $29.99 so I use them again this year for my 2025 tax return from what I remember seeing they were charging me $29.99 again. Now my tax return in 2025 was pathetic to say the least I was supposed to get back $147, instead $52.15 were deposited into my account I called to find out what happened they stated that I was charged $100 for my return. Make that make sense when I'm filing a 1040EZ single why would I pay $100 to have my tax return prepared for me when I can do it free anywhere else last year I was charged $29.99 this year was charged $100!!!! I called customer service to find out what happened and the lady was very rude and stated that I was charged the same amount of $100 last year I just didn't notice because I got back $1,203 but this year I noticed because I only got back $147!!!!! No lady I distinctly remember at the end of the transaction it breaks everything down and you have the choice of paying the preparation fee out of your tax return and I distinctly remember it's stating it was only $29.99!!! I would have never accepted the return if I was going to pay $100 when I'm only getting back $147 in federal tax returns Make that make sense I will never use them again to file my tax return. I was under the impression using a service like this would get my refund faster but I still waited weeks and weeks just like everyone else so next year I will be doing it the slow cheap way I will never use this service again who would pay $100 to file a tax return where your only getting back $147. Customer service rep treating me like I'm an idiot I would have never agreed to that I clearly saw what I saw.

I made an earlier review on ETA that after reviewing all options that was based on only 1 minor thing and with careful consideration am changing my review to 5 stars. They walk you through the entire tax process smoothly have all the paperwork you need, and there is simply no easier way out there to file your taxes for the low price of 29.95.Ive searched everywhere and no company beats that price when not using a free one.Money is important these days especially now.I would recommend this company time and time again. Total Bait and switch

Total Bait and switch. I expected to pay to E-file but $39.95 for Fed and $39.95 for state and a $80.00 to use the program. These fees were not disclosed until the very end. That way they know most people will just pay. I bailed and went to another service. They imported my previous Turbo Tax and charged a total of $14.99 for everything.

Great experience overall

Great experience overall! The representatives were professional, patient, and took the time to clearly explain everything to me. The process was smooth, and I felt well-informed at every step.
There was some initial confusion regarding a capital loss carryover, but it was handled promptly and ultimately resolved to my satisfaction. Any questions I had were answered clearly and respectfully, which made the experience stress-free.
I especially appreciated the follow-up and the effort to ensure I was satisfied. It’s clear they value their customers and stand behind their service. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

Simple and Quick

I’ve been using eTax.com for a few years now and honestly have had a really good experience every time. It’s straightforward, easy to use, and just works without any hassle.
The pricing is also very reasonable, especially compared to some of the bigger names out there. You get what you need without feeling like you’re overpaying.

I’ve recommended it to a bunch of family and friends, and they’ve all been happy with it too, which says a lot.

I’ve seen some negative reviews, but that hasn’t been my experience at all. Based on what I’ve seen personally and from people I know, those seem like the exception rather than the rule.

DO NOT USE ETAX TO DO YOUR TAXES UNLESS…

DO NOT USE ETAX TO DO YOUR TAXES UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!
Etax charged me excessive fees for a simple income tax filing with income under $50,000. I was charged $144.00 and was not shown a page with the amounts when I filed. They did not post a breakdown of these charges. When I called them for a break down of the fees they tacked on many hidden fees.
Their site also looks like a government site but it is not. You can go to the federal government site and complete for free or much less. I won’t make this mistake again!

Absolutely deceptive practices

Absolutely deceptive practices. The IRS recommendation and link to file taxes for free with an adjusted gross income below $89,000 is not supported at all. I used the platform entered the information and was prompted to pay my owed amount. My bank statement immediately reflected a $29.95 bill from eTax. At no point in the platform are you alerted to any element of the filing that triggers a "premium" service or ineligibility for free file. There was no charge shown, and no opportunity to authorize that charge. The customer service representative argued with me and, ultimately hung up on me.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience, I got yelled by both reps telling me it was my mistake, yes it was because I used their company, no charges disclosed until my taxes were ready to be filed. And I was given wrong information and then told I was lying. Just plain horrible. .
P.S.
The rep i had originally spoken called me to apologize for the negative experience and offered a partial refund of the charge.
I did appreciate the call.

Rude Customer Service and mis-leading information.

I owed Federal taxes. As this stated filing was free when asked for my payment method I felt I was paying the IRS. I did not see where State was filed so I called Customer Service. Very RUDE!! Told me to READ READ READ! I ended paying more than I am getting back. Very misleading. I have done my own taxes for years. I will never use this company again.

BUYER BEWARE ITS NOT FREE!

#1 the IRS and eTax website claim it is free service! It is not. After you fill everything out they want 29 to transmit return! I agreed to the fee since i spendt 45 minutrs filling out there forms. I just received my refund but because I chose to have fee taken out of return they charged over $100. Total ripoff. Buyer beware.

They took money out of my refund for fees I was not aware of. Bait and switch, false advertising, unfair business practices showing "free e-file", "start for free-fastest way to maximize refund", "e-file is free and included" misrepresentations. They kept 94.85, stole it! If I could give a zero stars I would. Then when I called them they hung up on me. Don't use this company.

They do not have the option to allocate the healthcare premiums to one person. My daughter was filing her taxes and needed to allocate the credit to me as she we were under the same plan for the household, it doesnt let you allocate and only lets her take the credit. Had to request refund and go to taxact who had the correct option.

Easy and effective

Filing was super straightforward. Since my taxes are pretty simple, it only took me about half an hour to finish. Both federal and state returns were accepted right away, and now I’m just waiting on my refunds

I was worried about changing from my cpa to an online option, but my cpa was just simply getting too expensive. So I tried them out online. I was pleasently surprised. The experience was pretty frictionless. Everything was smooth and I got the same refund as I always did with my cpa. I'll use them again next year. I need to start using online platforms more often with other things too obviously lol
