We rented a car from Europcar at the airport in Tromso via our flight company. It was pleasant that they upgraded us to a bigger vehicle, with less charge, but no agent came with us to the parking lot... See more

At first I was happy with the company

At first I was happy with the company. They did a free upgrade on the car type for us and they were very friendly. After that it was all downhill from there. We rented from the Bergen airport and so after getting the keys we had to go find the parking garage and search through the whole section. Other car rental companies had a little info booth down there with someone to help but Europcar had no one. We had a difficult time finding the car and then had to do our own inspection to make sure thing was wrong. When we brought the car back to the airport there was no signage on where the drop off location was. I asked the airport info booth and they said they couldn't help me (really? the airport doesn't even know where the rental car drop off is???) so I then had to find the rental car booth which was down a floor. I got the information and the guy illustrated a confusing map for me. Eventually after some trial and error we found the drop off. There was no one there to do an inspection so we had to then go back to the same booth and drop off the keys. I questioned them on a charge I had seen on my credit card and they said it would be refunded. It took over 2 weeks for that refund to come in which was really dissapointing. On top of that, over 2 months after the car rental, I received an invoice in the mail saying I had a parking fine...They said I received a ticket and didn't pay it so it went to the rental company. I did not receive any tickets or parking fines so I questioned them about it. They said they paid the ticket so the invoice is to pay them back. $100 (CAD) for a simple parking fine??? and then another $100 for admin and invoice fees?? come on Europcar, that's rediculas. I will never be using this campany again.

Disinterested reception; poor dispute resolution

After picking up the car in Tromso from a couple of young men who clearly had something more interesting to do than their jobs, we drove around Tromso for a couple of weeks. After the initial off-hand reception the hire went reasonably well. However, it was blighted when they twice debited my account for the hire of the vehicle. Europcar did refund my account for the amount taken in error, but they did not take into account the currency transaction charges and a change in the exchange rate. These I was left to pay, despite the error being theirs. After about 5 emails pointing out the issue Europcar eventually saw that they had made a mistake, yet I still had to paid for it. They maintained they could do nothing about it due to computer programming restrictions. They did offer a free upgrade on my next hire. When the voucher arrived it had an expiry date so close to today's date that it is not possible to use it - despite being requested that they offer an extended period.

I hired a car from Tromsø Airport for a…

I hired a car from Tromsø Airport for a couple of days last May. A most unpleasant woman did the paperwork and then just gave us the keys. We had to find the car by ourselves and inspect it. Found nothing wrong. When we dropped it off, there was again no-one to inspect the car. When we got home found an email claiming there were stone marks on the bonnet with photos where no damage was visible. Ended up having my credit card debited for €400. This is the first time I have had a fraudulent experience hiring a car. Most unpleasant. Avoid them. In Tromsø at least.

Dishonest and disappointing

Europcar on Oslo Airport charged me 5800 NOK (app. 800 Euros) for two small chips (2x2 millimeter) in the paint under the front bumper in a car I rented for 2 days April 2018. I had no way of noticing them as you had to lie down on the ground to see them, and I don’t get under the car to check it before I rent it. Even from below, they where barely visible to the naked eye. Totally dishonest firm, very disappointed. Asked for proof of repair from autoshop: Turns out they do not even fix the damages, just cash in from unknowing customers. Surprised that it is even legal. Avoid Europcar as they rip you off.

Avoid at your own peril

Avoid at your own peril. I have rented with many other car rental companies but this is 'THE' Cowboy of the Wild West. No other business would get away with such appalling customer service and totally unjust charges. Europcar you should be ashamed, but judging from the appalling way you treat your customers worldwide I doubt it. How are you still in business...? Oh yeah I get it by ripping your customers off. Never again!

Stay away

Had the same experience as Jan Henrik. Rented a car through Autoeurope but 30 days later I got an invoive on aprox 800€ from Europcar for a small scratch that 100% occured after I returned the car. Thanks to Autoeurope I did not have to pay
If you for some strange reason choose to rent from europcar, do check every little inch of the car and take pictures!!

Charged for a damage I did not cause

Rented a car in Norway. 6 months later I got an invoive on aprox 300€ for a scratch on one of the wheels. I am 100% sure that this did not come from our use of the car.
If you for some strange reason choose to rent from europcar, do check every little inch of the car. The scratch I was blamed for was approx 1x0,7 cm long and had bearly broken the surface og the rim.

WARNING.

If you go to Norway on business, DON’T RENT YOUR CAR AT EUROPCAR. If your company rent's the car online, they can pay the rental with a company credit card but when you come to Norway, Europcar will not hand the car over, before you give them a personal credit card, with your personal name on it. This means that all other cost than the rental itself, road tax etc., will be charged to your private credit card. Europcar will then send you an invoice, showing all the extra cost that they have deducted on your private credit card. You must then take this invoice, with you private name / credit card details, to you company and ask them to refund the money into your privat account :o(

Ripped off at the Rygge airport Oslo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a rental company but an criminal organisation!!!!!

I hired Golg for 6 days trough rentalcars.com at Europcar Rygge Oslo.
Car has been paid in advance 3 weeks before
They refused to accept and temporarily charge for the damage coverage on additional 5000 NOK.Instead of this Mr Malvin from Europcar asked 5000 NOK cash as deposit or nothing:He refused to offer a written confirmation of the cash deposit. After 30 min of negotiation he finally offered to enter the 5000 NOK cash deposit in the rental agreement. After 4 months and after the numerous calls and mails the send aditional charge on 1256 NOK for the full insurance i never ordered and road toll. They declare to have retutned the remaining 3744 NOK back on my account by bank wire.
This is a lie of course.I never received this money back i to my acount.
By searching online i found tousends of similar cases.
I cannot undesteand why they are in bussines instead in jail

BE AWARE THEY ARE TIEVES
