We booked all the insurence from home

We booked all the insurence from home, and booked af big car. When we came at the airport they wanted to upgrade our car to automatic, but when we dident want the upgrade, europecar just didnt have our booked car.
So they wanted us to pay for a upgrade, because they didnt had the car we booked!
Or we could have an totally other car!

Good all round

Had a good experience with these guys, after my car bombed out on the motorway my insurance paid for the hire car. I wasn’t disappointed, they’ve been brilliant, very professional and gave me all the info. When I had to return the car they came to the home address to pick it up. Car was in good condition and smart.

The Malaga airport scam is very real.

Tried paying for my car without the additional excess, but all 5(!!!!) cards didn't go through.

Magically, when the guy added the insurance, which was about 150 Euro less than the initial sum, the transaction went through.

Not going to use Europecar any time soon.

Bad service and lousy cars at Luton Airport

I booked a car via Holidayautos. The information on Holidayautos says that Europcar is based in terminal. Wrong! they are 15min away by shuttle so be aware of that for a start. My voucher said that I needed to present credit card, diving license and passport, so I did. Rep at the counter insisted I needed a DLVA penalty points check at the cost of 10GBP, though we explained we have NZ driving license. Took 45min to resolve this issue involving the manager of the branch. Every single step, staff was trying to sell you more services, while I see how people are smoothly processed in other car rentals. Eventually got a car, air conditioning not working on a day that the temperature is 30c. Never Europecar again.

Car Rental Deposits Not Returned - More Unethical Europcar Behaviour

I recently made the following two bookings with Europcar Chile

1077914270
1077914371

In each case a rental deposit of approximately USD 850 was blocked on my credit card, made at the time I took possession of the vehicles.

The important thing to note here is that the blocking process took less than 30 seconds. It occurred at the time I checked in at Europcar’s rental desks at Punta Arenas and Puerto Montt Airports in Chile. My reasonable assumption was that the funds would be un-blocked at the time the car was returned in good order at the conclusion of each booking.

No folks, this would be the logical and reasonable thing to assume. But remember, this is EUROPCAR we are discussing.

Despite returning both cars in good order, and successfully settling ancillary charges at the resoective rental desks, THE RENTAL DEPOSIT AMOUNTS REMAIN BLOCKED ON MY CREDIT CARD. In the case of the first rental deposit it has been almost 2 weeks, and in the case of the second case 1 week.

After multiple emails to Europcar Chile customer service, here is the reply I finally received from Sebastian Salas Bravo of Europcar Chile:

“Unfortunately, the system is not ‘our system’, but the only system that operates in Chile for credit card payments.Since the transactions have been made and closed, is up to the origin bank to release the money”

This comment is outrageous for two reasons:

1. The same bank that can block funds within 30 seconds takes two weeks to return it? How in heavens name can a payment system be set up that benefits the hire car company (near instantaneous deposit blocking) while penalizing the customer?

2. Why would I even CARE that the problem lay with Europcar’s bank?. This is a classic case of a bureaucrat deflecting blame from their own company’s failure onto a third party. The failure to return my rental deposits is the responsibility of EUROPCAR, not some unnamed bank.I made my rental agreement with EUROPCAR not their bank, as such EUROPCAR is the party to blame.

Europcar, I have been waiting days, checking with my card company, writing again and again emails to your incompetent customer service staff, hours of my time have been wasted, all while I am on the road in the middle of my vacation.Your excuses are frankly, bull*** .You have wasted my time, and you have ruined my vacation.

Once again I urge anyone reading this post to AVOID EUROPCAR AT ALL COSTS. In this case they have behaved in an unethical manner by failing to disclose that customer funds would be withheld FOR NO VALID REASON other than the stupidity of management who designed a ‘system’ that benefits them while ignoring the pain it inflicts on customers.

Be careful about being offered a upgrade. I declined the upgrade and said I wanted the car that I had prepaid for. I was told they did not have one so they offered me another car and then put a upgrade fee on my rental agreement. Please check your agreement for extra charges because if you sign then you have excepted the extra charge. And you won't get a refund even if you complain afterwards. So check your agreement at the time of rental.

Terrible company

Terrible company. Do not use! They told me it was 26 pound extra to upgrade which was actually a daily charge and then added premium insurance to my package even though I told them I already had excess waiver insurance. I requested how much the final bill was but the salesman knowing he was ripping me off used the language barrier against me and said all was fine and the balance would show after my deposit was refunded. So instead of paying £195 roughly for the week. I am now being stung with a nearly £700 bill for a beetle. I reckon I could rent a Lamborghini for that!!!! Disgusting, unloyal, dishonest, untrustworthy company. DO NOT USE!!!!!!

With having booked and paid online for …

With having booked and paid online for a station car with Europcar in Barcelona Airport, they surprisingly did not accept our Visa card as valid credit card for making the deposit, We have always used this card with zero problerms in both the US, DK, other EU countries (with ie. Hertz, Avis etc). The agent at the counter was rude and no way helpful and just completely rejected any further assistance all though we had small children with us and it was late at night. We found another rental car company (Firefly) who had no reservations with finding a car for and withdrawing a deposit on our card. add to that they were extremely heltfull and took time to walk thorugh all the legal documents and terms related to renting the car. Europecar, as btw cn bee seen from the majority of revies online, is simply not a good choice.
