As a busy graduate student

As a busy graduate student, I am always looking for convenient ways to stay on top of the "knowledge game" per se. Examine.com has so far proven to be a valuable resource in this pursuit of learning and has aided me in what I like to call "being a persistent student".

Examine.com. The heroes we need.

Are you looking for comprehensive, easy-to-read summaries on supplementation/nutrition research from a group of nerds who aren't interested in selling you trendy diets or pills?

It exists!

I've consistently used Examine.com since 2011 to shield myself from the annoying barrage of dietary buffoonery spewed about by magazines, books, alleged experts, and unwitting victims.

Bookmark it now. It'll save you from a clinically important amount of time searching PubMed.[citation needed]

The best there is.

When it comes to sources of nutrition information, there's Examine.com and there's the rest.

I have used them since 2013 and their information is not only accurate and well researched, but cited in such a way that it makes follow up research easy. There are no agendas or sponsors which eliminates a major source of concern for users and there is always ongoing research in new aspects of nutrition. Information is presented in such a way that it is detailed enough for those who want it, but easy enough to read for those with a more novice level of understanding. We spend much of our lives eating, it only makes sense to want to optimize every aspect of our diet and Examine gives us the best means of doing just that that.

Examine has positively influenced so many of my purchasing decisions that those I love are now healthier and happier thanks to informed changes to their diet, for that I'll always be grateful.

Unbiased Meta-analysis on Supplements

Examine is an unbiased source that looks through clinical research on supplements to organize research results by trial size, dosages and outcomes.

I would comment more on Examine as a company/business, but one of the things that makes it so great is they don't really insert themselves very much into this process of sifting through to the bottom of the truth on the matters they cover.

Wish this existed for more domains of human knowledge as a second layer on-top of the pure data of research.

Kudos

Evidence-backed, realistic advice on supplementation (for humans, not the rats in the toxicology lab.)

This is the place for science-based, unbiased, evidence-backed information on supplementation. This site does not advertise, promote, or even recommend specific supplements; it gives you information drawn from research, and grades the reliability and consistency of any reported benefits to supplementation. If you have ever been into exercise/bodybuilding, you have probably read online articles by huge and muscle-bound ‘experts’ on how many grams of what whey/casein/BCAA or protein-rich breakfasts will deliver more muscle per pound of effort—and you have probably found out the hard way that unless you are genetically predisposed and prepared to spend a lot of money on androgenic drugs, you will never look like one of those guys, and you will risk your health whilst throwing money away.
Examine.com offers a refreshing take on supplements: no claims of specific benefits to your health by someone who has never even met you, never mind take a look at your medical profile.
For instance, I suffer from an anxiety disorder. My psychiatrist says that it’s part of me, and a successful drug would be one which can provide 10-20% improvement in quality of life. This site shines with that same realism: there are no magic substances that will transform your life in a jiffy. However, if you are prepared to engage with the research and have realistic expectations, all the while remembering that everyone is different, then you might, as I have, discover a ‘stack‘ of supplements which together will give you several small boosts in dealing with modern life.
This site is, in my opinion, the place to begin unpicking all the hype, and find out what supplements you might benefit from using together (or should perhaps avoid completely).

Narrative free evidence-based information

I am a huge fan of examine.com's approach to providing information on supplements, which is an approach that does not include pushing a specific narrative or agenda. They provide information as is, without a narrative, so the user can use the "raw" data to form their own opinion.

Examine.com has also been structured in a way that would allow one to use the site for free and still have access to the most valuable parts of the website, the reviewed, analysed and summarised information pertaining to specific supplements and nutrition. That is not something one usually sees on websites that don't generate a revenue through advertising.

Examine.com Solves Supplement Misinformation Woes

Examine is the place to go to sort out nutritional science fact vs fiction and acquire a deeper, succinct understanding of the mechanisms of action regarding various amino acids, constituents and acids.

Combined with NIH and JISSN, you have a powerhouse of knowledge and understanding at your fingertips that will tick your doctors and their big pharma pushes off, which is a great thing! :)

The information is also useful to me personally: Always looking for concise, accurate, authoritative info and this is without doubt a premier source.

Thank you for the good work!

I wanted the truth and found it.

I wanted the truth about what I am taking and how it should be taken but it was almost impossible to find and understand. I have been taking supplements for about 50 years. I started in my mid 20''s and am now 77. Back then, it was really hard to know what to do because there was very little information and most of it was negative. Even though I was stabbing in the dark, I was feeling better when I took some vitamins and a few other supplements. So, I discounted the "experts" who said it was a sham and haven't looked back since then.
I take a number of things to help me as I age. I still work 50 to 60 hours a week, but things change as we age so I want to get what works best and with good information I should not have to experiment as much as in the past..
There is more information, available now but unfortunately much of it is published and pushed by the industry and it is hard to find the truth. Then, there you were one night on the internet where I accidentally found my way into your site. I joined the next day. Anyway I have begun the process of finding my way through the site and believe I have found some great information which will help me in my quest to live a long and healthy life.
Thanks for what you are doing. I will recommend the site to my friends.

I trust them because they don't sell…

I trust them because they don't sell anything or link to others who may be selling stuff, and don't even take donations. I get the impression that they're a bunch of PhD nerds who are getting a kick out of what they're doing, for the good of mankind so to speak.

They're my go-to because their advice is based on scientific papers that they've read, evaluated the way the research was done, and distilled the information into meaningful tables that fairly easily show me what a particular substance will or won't do for me, and how strongly or weakly the scientific papers support each factor.

I'm a physicist, well aware of what constitutes "science" in general but with no medical/biological training. I have no connection with the site or the people who run it, although I did buy one of their documents and subscribed to their upgraded service, as thanks for their work.

examine.com is an outstanding website

examine.com is an outstanding website. As a supplement company owner and neuroscience researcher, I truly admire the sheer volume of research which they scrutinise. They provide an invaluable resource which is second to none. Their customer service is great too. I was able to get in touch with one of the founders, who was extremely helpful and seemed to really care about my feedback.
