I would 100% recommend!

I would 100% recommend Experience Mission to anyone especially the IMMERSION trips! Having been on a 3 month South Africa Immersion Trip it was an incredibly positive experience all around. This is how Missions trip should be; coming alongside community partners and building relationships!

A Leap of Faith

The Lord works in mysterious ways and it’s the moments you expect God to show up the least that He shows up the most. Throughout my time in South Africa, I not only got to know a different culture and country, I got to know an entirely different people group. I got to learn their names, hear their stories, share my stories and build relationships that never would’ve happened if I decided not to go and backed out. Trust me, I had every opportunity to, but when you allow God to do a work in your life and also pour into your life through relationships with others. It’s a truly indescribable experience of what God takes you through and how He brings you to the other side.

Do it!!!

I was on the first ever 3 Month Namibia Immersion team. This was the absolute best thing I have ever done in life. I learned so much about myself and God. I also made some friends who will last a lifetime. All I can say is GO and immerse yourself.

Good Trip, Good People

The only reason that I am giving four stars was because I was frustrated with feeling like I was clueless as to what was happening with the budget. It was a Covid year so I do understand the difficulties but I just wish that it was more transparent with us. Other than that I loved the experience. Experience Mission was a great way to see the body of Christ in action. EM provides all the opportunities for YOU to make the best of your trip.

Count the Cost. It’s Still Worth It.

The Lord used this time to point out areas of my life that needed to change. Being surrounded by imperfect but committed believers in a new environment is a bigger blessing than you can imagine. I hope that if you read this, that you choose to set aside time to break from the rush of American life. It’s worth it. I promise.

What a Beautiful Opportunity

This trip was truly life-changing and enriching in so many more ways than I could have ever expected. I grew so much in my walk with the Lord, and I had the chance to love and serve so many of His people. Even through challenges and hard days, the Lord was faithful and so so good. I would highly recommend going on an IMMERSION trip. If you are willing and open, the Lord can use you in mighty ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a context that's very different from your own. What a beautiful opportunity.

Keep the main thing the main thing

Overall immersion is a wonderful program and it truly does work. An experience is what you make it, if you are focused on all the negatives you will miss everything else. It’s important to remember that you are there to serve the Lord. It’s not about you it’s about Him. Keep the Main thing the Main thing and you will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams.

Beware of this mission group…

While my daughter’s 6 month Africa mission started out fine, when the Coronavirus hit midway through their trip, the young people were abandoned. They were told to find their own way home. Absolutely NO help from the leaders of this organization. The young people had spotty WIFI, so it was left to the parents to scramble to find tickets home. Not only did we lose all of the money we gave Experience Missions, we had to purchase a very expensive ticket home. After 3 days , our daughter was able to make it home, but 3 people in her group were unable to get out before the border closed. They spent weeks in Africa before being rescued by the US embassy . Experience Mission refused to help our young people, had no plan for if something like this happened. They never apologized, and even made it hard to contact them for answers. My daughter and the others felt totally abandoned and let down. This organization is totally irresponsible with the lives of those on their trips. I wish my daughter had gone with a different mission group.

Hi Kathy,

We are sorry that over a year later you still don’t feel you have been able to express your frustration over this series of unprecendented events. Our Executive Director has made himself available to many parents and that offer to communicate directly still stands if you would like. That said, we would like to take a minute to further explain this situation for those who may find your review and want more information.

On all IMMERSION programs we have always had “Personal Emergency Fund” policy in place, which outlines that team members and parents/emergency contacts do have a responsibility to pay for unexpected travel home, whether due to illness, personal choice of the volunteer, or unforeseen events. Because of our inability to book last-minute plane tickets on behalf of each team member at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, our U.S. and Africa staff did everything we could to assist team members by talking with many parents and team members as they sought out options for traveling home (which were dwindling fast as many airlines started canceling flights out of South Africa as lockdowns became imminent) and also providing transportation to the airport, safe lodging, and food until everyone was on a flight home.

It is saddening to hear the characterization that any of these team members were "abandoned." Three team members were unable to leave South Africa on commercial flights before the country's initial lockdown, all due to canceled flights. These team members stayed at the home of EM's Africa Director with him and his family and were fed and housed at EM’s cost until a repatriation flight was available through the U.S. Embassy, a choice team members could make if they did not want to wait out the lockdown for more commercial flights to become available.

While we are certainly aware of the potential for this to happen again, it was unprecedented at the time that we would have 40 IMMERSION participants abroad and only days to help everyone get home during a global shutdown with limited commercial flights, cancelled flights, and ever-evolving airline and government policies. Ultimately, everyone was safe and taken care of, although it was certainly a stressful and frustrating experience for all! We acknowledge things we could have done better in hindsight and have worked to improve our emergency communication protocols with teams and parents as well as training with team leaders to make sure details are better relayed in the future.

Regarding a full or partial refund for the trip, we unfortunately had to stick with our policies on non-refundable amounts that team members signed at the start of the trip. We absolutely wish we could have given everyone a refund or a re-do on their trip that was cut short, but after emergency expenses and loss of donations due to Covid-19, it is impossible for us (even a year and a half later) to make that kind of exception. Not only was the entire IMMERSION program impacted by the pandemic and travel home, but EM also had to cancel mission trips for over 3,000 short term volunteers throughout the rest of 2020. Where possible, we have worked with team members on flight credits or scholarships for future IMMERSION trips and are glad to have a good relationship with many team members who had to depart early due to Covid-19 shutdowns.

We understand the realities of this situation were hard and communication could have been better. We also are proud of the way our staff on the ground worked to help and secure food and last-minute housing for team members stuck in South Africa looking for a way home.

I do not recommend EM/IMMERSION

I learned and experienced a lot. I was able to witness to many and see Jesus work. However, EM has a lot they need to work on, they have a multitude of areas they need to work on. Their communication with each other and with team members is terrible. Their standard of conduct is not well monitored and kept up. They have no good emergency plans. I could go on but I don't want to include things that may affect other people. I do not recommend this organization and I will never be associated with them again.

Thanks for your feedback, Faith. We’re glad you learned a lot on your 2 IMMERSION trips. We’re so sorry for the negative experience you had when your trip was cut short due to the Coronavirus lockdowns. We did our best to stick to our policies and support team members throughout the experience, but we wish there was more we could have done to prepare teams from the beginning. Because of this experience, we are altering some of our policies, updating our training, and giving additional resources for travel insurance to future teams. If you have any additional questions or feedback, we would love for you to reach out to your IMMERSION support contact.

the GOAT

Experience Mission is an incredible, God-centered organization that puts the dignity of ALL God’s people second to none. Their staff is world class, each of them love God and love people to their bones. The training is adequate and eye-opening; and the trip is life-altering. I recommend them for any sort of trip you’re looking to take. From 2 week to gap year, there isn’t another organization that I would suggest over them. I personally did Caribbean immersion and it was a great time of growth in my life. I wish I could relive it often. The relationships I formed will last a lifetime.
