No fuel

I went to refuel my car in Booth Town, Halifax. I started filling up and had put in about £30 worth of fuel when the pump suddenly stopped. I went into the shop to explain that the pump had stopped and I hadn’t finished refuelling.

The cashier told me the pumps had run out of fuel. I said I would move to another pump and pay for everything together, but I was told I couldn’t put in more than £30 because they didn’t have enough petrol.

I then asked why I couldn’t fill my tank if a fuel delivery was on the way, but the cashier still said no.

Poor service from Esso

ExxonMobil’s customer service is among the worst in the UK. I genuinely don’t understand how their subsidiary, Esso, remains a major Nectar partner. I also discovered that MFG is linked to Esso and is likewise owned by ExxonMobil.

I contacted them in late August 2025, providing proof of my fuel receipts and requesting that the Nectar points I was owed be added retrospectively. My email was completely ignored.

On two separate occasions, I visited both an Esso and an MFG fuel station in the early hours of the morning. However, due to an ongoing issue at both brands—where only pre-paid fuel transactions are accepted at the till window—these purchases appear on receipts simply as “Prepay – Pump 1” or “Prepay – Pump 4.” As a result, Nectar does not recognise these transactions as valid fuel purchases, and the associated points are never credited to the customer’s Nectar account.

Poor experiences at the esso shop

Poor experiences at the esso shop, leigham court road london. It serves as a collection point for several online platforms. Went to collect package the other day, duly showed the code but Miss Useless 2025 behind counter said it wasnt there.
After typing the code in 3x she finally figured it out and I got my package.

Went again to collect a different package, decided to go at a different time to avoid Miss Useless.
Instead I got 3 jeetstooges who refused to give me the package but enjoyed waving it under my nose.
They spoke about me in their own language and mocked my distress.

Have had to report the theft to police and claim refund.

Ridiculous helmet rule

Stopped off for fuel in Jedburgh. Asked to remove my flip up helmet before I can purchase fuel. You can see my face. 🤬
An absolutely ridiculous rule.
The ponytailed attendant thought it was funny. It wasn't.
Every biker was asked to remove their helmets.
Never ever will I return to this site again. 💩💩🤬🤬🤬

Not good customer service

We went to the esso petrol station in Jedburgh for a pizza. We asked if they were still open, it was about 18.30, we got a response of yeeeaah. We ordered our pizza and we just couldn’t believe that he just didn’t want to be there. Yes it was bad customer service but it gave us a laugh! There were no gloves worn while he handled the pizza bread and cheese.
The pizza actually was very nice but we’ll see if I’m alive tomorrow to tell the tale 😅

A big thank you to Rosie at the Esso station in Nailsea!

On my way to Tesco, I decided to pop into the Esso garage in Nailsea to give my car a wash. I used the hand jet wash, putting in £5 worth of coins, but unfortunately, while there was plenty of soap, the machine didn’t rinse my car properly. I then got another £5 in coins from the shop and added £4 more into the machine, only for the coins to get stuck — and again, no water!

Feeling quite frustrated (and with a very soapy car!), I went into the station to ask for help. That’s when Rosie stepped in.

Rosie was absolutely brilliant — she came out straight away, managed to push the coins through, and when the machine still didn’t work, she quickly refunded me the £4 without hesitation. She could see I was disappointed and kindly offered to put my car through the automatic car wash free of charge once I’d queued up. There was a bit of a wait (around 15 minutes), but I didn’t mind, especially because she was so thoughtful and understanding.

In the end, my car came out sparkling clean, and Rosie completely turned around what could’ve been a frustrating experience. Her customer service was exceptional — caring, quick-thinking, and genuinely considerate.

I also want to mention how busy the station was, yet the staff handled everything with ease and a smile. The adjoining Tout’s supermarket is a gem too — beautifully laid out, with a fantastic selection of fresh produce and luxury items. It has such a feel-good atmosphere that it makes popping in for fuel, a car wash, or even a quick shop a real pleasure.

Who needs the big Tesco when you have a place like this? A brilliant one-stop spot — and thanks again to Rosie for going above and beyond!

Esso Garage, Podimore Roundabout, Yeovil

Absolute rip off Garage, LPG everywhere else 99p litre, here £1.29 litre. When you call to enquire on price she says "I cant give that information over the phone!" just shows what a rip off it is as they are even ashamed to admit the price. Esso need to do more as getting a bad name from locals and they are going elsewhere..Disgusting shop prices aswell

ESSO CENTRAL GARAGE. KILSYTH ROAD, KILSYTH,. BANKNOCK, FK4 1UF

I filled up my motorcycle at this station and entered the shop to pay for the fuel. I was wearing my helmet & earplugs. I held my card out to indicate how I would pay for the fuel. The staff member said something which I didn't hear but assumed he was indicating the pump and amount, and I swiped my card, declined a receipt and left the shop. I mounted my bike and prepared to leave, when I was aware that the staff member had come out of the shop and was shouting something to me and indicated I should return to the counter, which I did. It turned out that I had been charged for a lesser amount of fuel which was drawn by another customer and he had been charged the greater amount for my fuel. Both the other customer and I agreed it was an unfortunate error and obviously the solution was to cancel both transactions and then each would pay for our own fuel. However, the attendant stated that this was impossible and that we should resolve the issue ourselves. He maintained that it was not possible to refund the amounts and maintained this position even after consulting his manager on the phone. Neither myself or the other customer had any cash on our persons and were not in a position to resolve the issue as proposed by the attendant. Despite our exhortations to the attendant over some twenty minutes to simply reverse the transactions and allow us to pay for the correct fuel.or for me to simply pay the difference by a simple card transaction, which would allow the difference to be taken out of the till and given to the other customer, the attendant (and his manager who was still listening on the phone,) simply refused to consider any other optionsand insisted that he would not reverse the transactions, or make a refund to start a fresh transaction, or take a secondary payment, and that we would just have to sort it out ourselves. Eventually, the other customer and myself agreed that, since we both had places to be, he would have to trust me to pay him at a later date by comng to his home and pay him the difference. As we left, I noticed that there was actually a cash machine on the forecourt, (which charged me for withdrawing the money!) and I was able to pay (less 27pence which I didn't have) the other customer. It is entirely unacceptable that the attendant (and his manager), either couldn't or wouldn't cancel the transactions to allow each of us to pay the correct amounts for our respective fuel. It is entirely unacceptable that both myself and the other customer lost , (admittedly a small amount in the grand scheme of things), further money by the attendant/manager's intransigence by maintaining their position to the detriment and inconvenience of the customers.
I trust ESSO will pursue this issue with the staff at this station and discover either how their systems cannot refund or reverse payments or accept additional payment or why the staff simply refused to consider any reasonable alternatives. This is a local station to both me, (running two cars and a motorcycle), and the other customer, (three cars and a lorry).... I don't expect it will be the station of choice for either of us in the future! AND.... the Esso/ exxonmobil complaints webpage doesn't offer enough space to outline one's complaint!!

I have had customer surveys from Esso…

I have had customer surveys from Esso from time to time, but nothing changes with the ongoing issues at the station I was using.

I wanted to get fuel a few weeks ago, but travelling to the usual station I found it was closed with no pumps available due to a delivery. This was just before lunch on a Wednesday. I discovered it would be at least 45 minutes before they were open again. Quite a few cars pulled in and then drove off whist I was there.

I went to another station, but this turned out to be a Tesco so no triple Nectar points available.

I tried reporting my experience through an online form, but that would not allow normal typing with characters jumping all over the place. I then phoned and left my details because it stated the office was closed despite it being during their advertised open hours.

I phoned again and was advised to e-mail any complaint. I did this, then got a phone call two days later responding to my first message.

The response to my email was one of nothing we can do because the station is franchise. No real understanding as I advised we were dealing with a bereavement at the time, and just one of those "the customer is important to us" but despite making millions we are doing nothing about it type of responses.

Appalling behaviour from ESSO attendant

Appalling behaviour from the attendant at ESSO - Sticklepath DHL drop off point in Barnstaple 17/9/23 at around 17:25, refusing to accept a parcel for drop off as he "didn't want to be liable" in spite of my having driven more than 20 miles to deliver the parcel. Aggressive in his behaviour and the refusal to accept the parcel clearly racially motivated. I have driven a 40+ round trip to this garage for this service.

Esso broadband are thieves

Esso broadband are thieves. I moved last year and followed all the procedures online that they asked of me. Can you imagine my surprise when I looked at my bank account and they were billing me for two addresses? Well, people make mistakes and I contacted them. It took lots of calls and ages on hold but they assured me they would rebate the 5 months of extra billing... they did not. Numerous calls led to nothing but hours on the phone. In the end, I gave up but I will not be renewing my contract and would recommend anyone to shop elsewhere.

Yodel collection

Tried to collect a yodel parcel months ago . Manager did not recognise a paper drivers licence. Said I needed photo id Which is incorrect. Tried to pick up a parcel today . Scanned barcode told me I’m not handing you your parcel. I’m refusing to give it to you. It will go back to the company in 2 weeks. Other half went in to collect which is permitted . Refused. Told him I was threatening. I never swore. Raised a hand just merely tried to explain that my paper licence is legal and valid as proof of id. He is a very arrogant rude and uneducated member if staff. Esso should be ashamed of themselves employing him.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Dear Sir/Madam,
Please check your petrol station (Rontec Harlow,Tilwicks Road Bushfair, CM186NQ). There is selling very bad quality fuel .After fuelled in this station, the engine lost power and increased fuel consumption. I know many people who had the same problem with this petrol station.
Hope you will sort this problem with this petrol station.
