The Founder Institute program was productive, engaging, and a valuable experience for refining my pitch, strengthening my business model, and sharpening my messaging. The curriculum and mentor feedback helped me develop a much stronger foundation for my company, and I truly enjoyed the collaborative environment with my cohort.

The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I feel there’s a missing link between graduating from the cohort and actually securing funding. While the program does an excellent job of helping founders refine their story and prepare for investor conversations, there is no clear funnel or structured path to warm introductions with VCs, angels, or strategic investors to fund our projects. Without that next step, there’s a risk that all the effort to refine the pitch and materials could stall without capital to execute.

From my perspective, this is also a missed opportunity for FI itself. A company that doesn’t move forward after graduation offers little return on FI’s 2.5% equity stake. By building a more direct bridge to funding opportunities, the program could help more graduates succeed while also increasing FI’s own long-term upside.

Overall, I’m grateful for the experience and the knowledge gained, and I would recommend the program to other founders.

The leaders and mentors went above and beyond to support our cohort. Their experience, patience and kindness was exceptional. The course itself is fantastic - it drives you onwards and upwards in logical, fast sprints as you validate and pivot the ideas for your enterprise. I learnt so much about tech solutions and met an incredible array of colleagues including medical consultants, a lawyer and marketing specialists. The tasks were intellectually challenging but more than worth all the hard work and now I am connected to incredible mentors worldwide for life. Thank you everyone.

The Ugandan cohort started well and the chapter leader was great but he was all alone so it was hard to get one on one guidance for the first month. He then came up with a solution to do group office hours, this lasted for about 4 weeks but was then cancelled as the chapter leader and only mentor was travelling. Even when he got back to Uganda he only showed up once for the weekly calls. After a while he stopped answering emails and texts. We were basically left to our own devices. As for the Uganda admin Joan, she was not aware of anything, did not know anything, often she did not follow up on requests. I got the impression that she couldn't be bothered. Then there was the case of the mentors, once they presented we had to get in contact for mentoring sessions, but it was almost impossible to do so. I even believe that some were just interested in steeling the ideas

I found that I had a completely different perspective after completing the founder institute accelerator. Each week the sprint refined my thoughts and activities when it comes to building my startup. Now, I realised that there are so many components that make a successful startup and I have access to that knowledge thanks to the Founder Institute. The 4 month period doing accelerator at FI was challenging and rewarding at the same time. The mentors there helped us in navigating different challenges and concerns. I felt like I had experts in every area at my disposal while doing the accelerator. For me, growth sprint was very helpful in terms of getting the first few customers for the startup.

My initial idea evolved drastically, the solution transformed, and most importantly, I finally understood why I was building it. This wasn't just a pre-accelerator; it was a founder bootcamp that pushed me to become sharper, more focused, and incredibly resilient.

FI provides a robust foundation for founders, and while catering more to early-stage ventures, they're process moves companies forward regardless of your stage. Weekly sprints are a bit boilerplate, but they are what you make them. Value is sprinkled throughout the program, and the mentors and extended network you gain access to is extraordinary.
