I am extremely disappointed with Figo…

I am extremely disappointed with Figo Pet Insurance. After experiencing very poor customer service, I left an honest review detailing my concerns. Figo responded publicly, apologizing for the experience and stating that they would follow up with my case.

That response gave me hope that the company was willing to make things right. Unfortunately, it appears to have been nothing more than a public relations gesture. Eight months have passed, and I have never received any follow-up, update, or resolution from Figo.

If a company takes the time to publicly promise action, customers should be able to trust that promise. In my case, there was no accountability and no communication afterward. Based on my experience, the customer service has been disappointing, and I cannot recommend Figo Pet Insurance.

Horrible company

Horrible company. Before moving forward with services at the vet, we specifically called and asked multiple questions to confirm what would and would not be covered. We relied on the information given to us over the phone, only to later find out the coverage was denied. When we called back for help, the representatives offered no real solution, refused to escalate the issue to a supervisor, and would not review the recorded calls to verify what we had originally been told.

On top of that, they also refused to fully cover our puppy’s required vaccinations, claiming we had somehow already maxed out the vaccine coverage. Extremely disappointing customer service and communication overall.

no explanation of why it was not covered

At first when I had to file a claim, it was good news. An emergency situation was handled and I was reimbursed about 60%. Since I have returned to the vet for follow up on the same problem, Figo has paid 0.

Continued Disillusionment With Figo

On May 22, I called Figo after they responded to this review (below), asking me to call them so they could try to help fix this situation. The Figo customer service rep knew nothing about my situation or about Figo's response to my review below. LOL What a waste of my time. Their request for my call was merely an automated prompt. Not surprising.

After having dogs for 25 years without pet insurance, I became a new Figo customer and was excited to have extra protection if we needed it. Figo quickly rejected my first claim, made about five weeks into my insurance, which was for treatment for a hot spot, because my vet erroneously wrote in her office visit notes that I had mentioned seeing a spot on my dog's cheek two weeks before my visit. What I had told the vet was that I had seen a spot two days before my visit during his bath time. However, it looked like a small healed-up sore of some kind, until two days later, it appeared red and expanded. Thus, I promptly made an appointment with the vet that same day. Notably, my dog's records show NO call to the vet two weeks before the visit in question and NO visit as well. For all anyone knows, even if I had seen a spot on my very outdoorsy, active Golden Retriever, it could have been something else non-related. The vet's notes say nothing about any evidence that my dog's hot spot was related to "a spot" (no other description given) from two weeks prior. She indeed has no evidence to prove so, as the records indicate. However, since the claim that I said I saw a spot two weeks before my visit falls within the Figo "waiting period" of three weeks from purchase of insurance, Figo has decided to reject my claim under the category of a pre-existing condition. This is wild to me since even my veterinarian cannot prove there was a pre-existing condition, nor does she necessarily claim there was. I am new to the pet insurance world after having dogs for 25 years. I am beginning to wonder if I made a bad choice with Figo. I am a Costco member, so there is a deal with Figo, but paying an extra monthly bill for insurance that is going to look for excuses to not pay when I have a claim is not what I was signing up for when I decided to try out pet insurance. Disappointed.

DO NOT ENROLL With Figo!!!

I wish my husband never brought the Figo Pet insurance pamphlet home from Costco because this is literally the worst most stressful experience I have ever had with an insurance company.
Firstly, their exclusions are way more than covered conditions.
They decline more claims than they approve and the reasoning is always listed as "pre existing" conditions and this is not during the waiting period. They only really investigate your claim when you appeal it and then if you are lucky it will be approved.
My 10 year old Australian shepherd had 2 growths removed (like hanging moles) and they declined the claim as "pre existing" because they class these as "masses" and my dog was diagnosed with a fat mass in 2023 but the veterinary doctor advised us not to remove it because it was not causing any kind of discomfort or illness. After they declined the removal of the growths as pre existing, I appealed it and my vet sent a letter to them explaining that these were nothing like his previous diagnosed lipoma mass and these growths were first diagnosed on March 19,2026 and we had the surgery on March 26 2026. I received a letter back from them to tell me to read the exclusion page where it states that after a first diagnosis of a mass no other masses are covered under this policy. These weren't even masses. Please DO NOT enroll with this Company and I am going to take this up with Costco as well as they should not be endorsing such an unscrupulous Company.

Look No Further

I am a walking advertisement for Figo and cannot say enough good things about them. I got pet insurance for our puppy and that first year, it didn’t actually save us any money (we came out about even but I appreciated the peace of mind). I considered ending our coverage and am so glad I didn’t! Our dog started having seizures and needed hundreds of dollars worth of labs, ultrasounds, vet visits, medications, etc. I continue to pay our monthly cost of about $35 and we get his monthly medication ($18/month) 100% reimbursed. Between this and all of the other labs and work we’ve done, I am so appreciative that I stayed with Figo! Every other pet insurance company I looked into had a per incident deductible which in my mind defeats the purpose of insurance. Look no further and go with Figo!

Shady organization

My dog required the removal of 9 teeth during a routine dental cleaning. After filing my claim for only the teeth removal, (1) FIGO asked vet for clinical summary within 2 biz days or claim would be closed without ability to re-open. My vet sent 14 pages including images. (2) FIGO then asked for 2 years of records... within 2 biz days or claim would be closed without ability to re-open. My vet complied. (3) FIGO adjusted my claim to vet billed amount which included uncovered items, then denied claim due to pre-existing conditions. My dog is only 7, he had none of the noted conditions other than tarter... they can't be serious. We all have tarter every time we get our teeth cleaned! (4) I emailed them an appeal and the email got an auto-reply that the email address on their EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS was decommissioned. This is a very shady outfit. Why pay hundreds annually with only a faint hope they will pay? I won't again.

I used to have another Pet Ins

I used to have another Pet Ins. company handling my pet insurance but every year prices would go up and up until I couldn't afford it on both dogs. I decided to try Figo and so far I am pleased with pricing. Rates do go up every year but it doesn't seem as hefty. The only thing that is bothersome is that it takes about 1 week or little longer to know if your claim is going to being paid or not. Once the claim is closed you have to go onto your cloud to find out how much was reimbursed. The good news is that the reimburse usually hits within a few days if you have direct deposit. Overall, I like there service for my fur babies.

The process of registering our Samoyed…

The process of registering our Samoyed puppies with Figo Pet Insurance was extremely easy. As expected, enrollment is very smooth—they are clearly set up to make purchasing insurance simple and efficient. Our premium was approximately $300 per month for both puppies, which we felt was reasonable given their value and status as show dogs.

After enrollment, there was a standard waiting period of about two weeks before coverage became active. This is when the issues began.

Our puppies were only 10 weeks old at the time—very healthy, well-bred show dogs receiving excellent care. During a routine check, we found a tick. Although it was not embedded, we acted cautiously due to their status and had them evaluated. The tick itself tested positive for Lyme disease (not the puppy). Based on veterinary guidance and out of an abundance of caution, we proceeded with a two-week course of doxycycline.

We submitted a claim, and initially, the process seemed straightforward. However, when I followed up two weeks later, I was informed that claims processing takes 6 to 8 weeks, which I was told is standard for the company.

This is where the concern lies.

When you are paying over $300 per month, you expect timely support—especially in situations that could escalate. Veterinary emergencies can range anywhere from $1,000 to over $20,000. Many families do not have immediate access to that level of cash. A reimbursement model that takes 6–8 weeks creates significant financial strain and risk.

Fortunately, we have the resources to cover unexpected costs, but many pet owners do not. In a true emergency, waiting weeks for reimbursement is simply not practical.

For this reason, I strongly encourage anyone with high-value or show dogs to carefully evaluate their insurance options. We ultimately considered switching to Trupanion. While it is more expensive (our premium increased to approximately $650 per month for 90% coverage with a $200 deductible), their model is fundamentally different. In many cases, they can pay the veterinarian directly at the time of service, which eliminates the need for large out-of-pocket expenses upfront.

Bottom line:
Figo Pet Insurance is easy to enroll in and competitively priced, but the extended claims processing time is a significant drawback—particularly for owners of high-end or show dogs where rapid access to care and financial flexibility are critical.

Before choosing pet insurance, take the time to understand not just the cost, but how and when claims are actually paid. It can make a major difference when it matters most.

I am so happy that I chose Figo pet…

I am so happy that I chose Figo pet insurance for my three dogs. I never had Insurance before but decided to get it when my oldest dog turned 10. Right after getting the insurance, he tore his ACL and had to have surgery. Just recently, he toured the other ACL. Almost $20,000 in medical bills. Figo went out of their way to make sure my dog had coverage, even though there was a 6-month wait for orthopedics. He tore his first ACL after having the insurance just for a month. They worked hard to get him approved. I'm so happy with Figo.
Their customer service is top notch. Always friendly and helpful.
I had a couple of claims that were denied but I was allowed to appeal.
I don't know what we would have done without Figo

I wish I read reviews before signing up with Figo through Costco (I will be submitting this review through Costco customer service directly, they need to drop Figo ASAP). You'll be lucky to get anything paid out. My pup has had a rough few months with a sudden illness, hospital stay, and a number of follow-up visits and medications. Figo finds ANY unrelated reason to not pay out your claim. I am considering hiring an attorney to go after them at this point. Absolutely and total disaster of a company.

Rotten customer servie

I have 3 dogs and have been with Figo via Costco for over a year. In order to register a pet, you must send in the last vet visit note including physical exam before they approve the pet insurance. I filed a claim last week and they put the claim on hold asking for the initial vet visit for this dog-WHICH THEY ALREADY HAVE! I had to call the vet and waste their time and also mine. Do NOT use this insurance. Try Lemonade instead as my family members use them and NEVER get hassled like this.

Like large medical business they will deny your claims...

The first product or service I've purchased through Costco that I regretted. I'll be contacting Costco to let them know what a disappointment it is to be associated with this company. My claim was denied because of a "pre-existing" condition that I wasn't aware of. After years of paying for pet insurance, the first time I actually needed coverage it was denied. These companies are happy when you're paying your premiums but turn their backs on you when it's time for money to be paid back. The one time I actually tried to use this insurance they failed me. Avoid at all costs.
