Friendly and Fair Price, But Hard to Park There

The subaru dealer in Rockville, MD was excellent. They gave me a very fair price and everyone was friendly and helpful. My problem with them is a weird one: they have minimal parking for customers. Seems like a major oversight. I found a spot way in the back with their vehicle storage, and it didn't feel safe when I walked from my car about 8 minutes to the front. Plus the service center is congested and not so friendly, so I'll seek service at the Subaru dealer in Gaithersburg.

Not the Jack Fitzgerald Way... Anymore

I bought from Jack Fitzgerald many years ago at his Annapolis Volkswagen location. Great experience and customer service and fair pricing. But our most recent experience with the Frederick location in purchasing a used Mini was not such a pleasant experience.

The no-haggle price was based on an excellent condition car, which when we looked at it on an dark and overcast day, we thought we were getting. They had just gotten the car in and had not yet cleaned it up or detailed it. So we asked them to hold the car while they detail it, and so we could return with a full cash payment. The day we arrive the mirrors on the car on both sides are melted and the outside is mostly clean but where they removed a sticker on the rear hatch there was discoloration and the interior was still a little dirty. We didn't notice that there were also two decent sized dents in the hood until we took delivery and got the car home. Also, repaired upholstry tears were covered up, and the first time we clean the car suddenly the dye and filler comes off.

They agreed to replace the mirror caps but refused to fix the dents or anything else saying it was normal wear and tear for a used car. Maybe for a used car in "fair" shape at a lower price. Of course the car is in very good/excellent condition when they demand the premium fixed price. But less so when they are asked to back up the valuation by fixing issues making that should have been addressed pre-delivery.

The whole buying experience has left us with that swarmy used car dealer feel as well. My partner really liked the rare color of this particular Mini but we should have bought from Silver Spring Mini who was much more ethical and transparent in their sale process, and who also stands behind and warrants their used cars.

Our family will never deal with Fitzgerald again as a result of the poor service and overal sales experience. We will have to fix the major dents interior damage at our expense when we paid a price for a car that should not have had such a major defects. Don't believe anything they tell you about warranty or backing up their sales claims.

Stay away - this is not the Fitzgeralds Auto Mall of days past.
