A selection of Rupert Brooke’s most famous poems presented in a special limited edition to mark the centenary of his death. The book has been designed to reflect the values of the fine press movement of the early 20th century. The text, printed letterpress, is illustrated with original lithographs and quarter-bound in leather with hand-made paste-paper sides by Victoria Hall.Brooke is famous both for his evocation of Edwardian England in poems such as ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’ and for the wide-eyed patriotism of his later poems that herald the coming conflict. He died aged 27, before this illusion of a just and heroic war was completely shattered, although his final poem suggests that he may have begun to reconsider his idealistic stance. This edition contains superb new lithographs by Ed Kluz that capture the vitality and beauty of his verse.

Rupert Brooke, poet of peace, celebrant of friendship, love and laughter, took a second class in the 'Cambridge Classical Tripos'. Died at the age of 27 in a hospital boat on the Aegean Sea. Buried on the Greek island of Skyros. Quintessential genius bard; absolutely recommended. Crucial, essential work!

It's a beautifully produced book. I teach a course about World War One poets. Brooke died before seeing combat and didn't have the kind of war experiences that produced the work of Owen, Sassoon, and Rosenberg. As a consequence, I was a little chary about the price of this selection of Brooke's work, but that worry is gone: the man knew his craft, he's good, and the fact that he was writing for a pre-war world doesn't matter. His early death of course is tragic.

The production of this limited edition publication is impeccable. The design and typography (by The Folio Society in-house design team) and letterpress printing (by Stan Lane) are very fine, and Ed Kluz's auto lithographs are stunning and beautifully printed (by Curwen Press). The binding (by LEGO), featuring Victoria Hall's paste paper, is wonderful. Obviously, the poetry is exceptional, as would be expected from Rupert Brooke. I highly recommend this exquisite volume.
