I called in at Gail's in Barnes...

I called in at Gail's in Barnes for a coffee. As the only customer waiting, I stood at the counter for a while. Eventually someone took my order - he was friendly and helpful.
When I collected my coffee, it was in a paper cup, so I asked for it in a china cup. "Well that's how I received the order" complained the woman behind the counter. Not the response a customer wants or needs. My coffee was transferred into a cup - I'd have preferred a fresh one.
I went to sit down but the table surface was filthy. I asked another staff member for something to wipe down the surface.
"What do you want to order?" she asked, in a tone that left a lot to be desired. I explained I had my coffee, and that I simply wanted somewhere clean to drink it. The first staff member reappeared, wiped down the surface and again was friendly.
I assume all staff receive customer care training. It's as easy to be helpful and friendly (like the first person) as it is to be off hand and surly (like the other two).
Some of the staff at Gail's in Barnes really should not be in the business of dealing with customers.

I love Gail’s food but I’m steaming…

I love Gail’s food but I’m steaming just having got back from the Barnes branch. Bought amongst other things a fairly basic loaf for £2.80.
Guy serving me put on a latex glove then wiped his nose, then used the till. I asked for it to be cut up after which all the slices were randomly stuffed into a paper bag with no care. Not what you’d expect from a premium brand. Disappointing customer service and hygiene training.
