My 10-year-old son was ignored and left in tears at Gail’s Dulwich Village

This morning my 10-year-old went into Gail’s Dulwich Village to buy a sandwich, drink, and coffee while I parked nearby. Despite queuing politely, he was ignored by staff who served others who arrived after him—even someone who pushed ahead. He said he felt invisible.

He returned to the car in tears. When I went in, staff offered a half-hearted “sorry” and got rude with me when I asked them to take our order. They waived the coffee cost—but that’s meaningless. My son’s dignity matters far more than a free drink.

This wasn’t just bad service—it was exclusion. He was treated as if he didn’t belong. Gail’s should be ashamed of how they handled this. No child deserves to be treated this way.

Hello Neal, thank you for sharing your feedback.

Refurbishments of our existing bakeries are never taken lightly. We put a lot of time and hard work on all aspects of them, and involve every stakeholder before settling on a new layout and start the works.

We truly believe that the changes made to Dulwich Village address the majority of the challenges the bakery team struggled with day to day. However, we are sorry to hear about the impact it has had on your regular visits, and we can assure your comments have been shared internally for consideration.
