Ridiculous overuse of biodegradable gloves

Every time I am in a Gail's bakery, I am just astonished and horrified by their overuse of biodegradable gloves. This time I specifically asked for the server to use tongs to put my unsliced bread in a bag, and her colleague suddenly put on disposable gloves to help her! I then asked her if she would at least re-use these disposable gloves, but she said no she couldn't because they were now "contaminated" and had to go in the bin! I realise these gloves are biodegradable, but it still takes energy to make them, and they don't biodegrade so rapidly.
Otherwise, I find their bread is nice, which is what I come in to buy. But I just find this overuse of gloves rather upsetting.
Before Covid, these gloves were never used to this extent, and if someone touches a loaf of bread for one second or so, it's not going to make you ill!
I just wonder how many of these gloves they get through a week ...
