No, you don't need an API key, at the very least you definitely don't need it from buyers and the fact that you're trying to normalise this is damaging to everyone and leads to more scams than we need to have.

Bought an item , the money was taken from my bank account waited over 24 hours did not receive the item , i wrote a ticket i didnt get a response for over 48 hours (and i still dont have any respone ) but i got the money back in to the site , sadly not back in to the bank account because i dont want to buy anything from this website.

Scam 100% no cap
The problem arose when I purchased something from their website. I didn't receive the item and over $20 was missing from my bank account. When I reported the issue, they took a very long time to respond, but the problem still hasn't been resolved.
Oh yeah and they have time to promote their website with different promotions but they don't have time to reply to messages and fix my problems. Bruh :/

Was trading skins on the site, ran into some small issue, but Daniel was quick to fix the issue with me and yet again always the best place to sell and buy skins.

Took 1200 Australian dollars from me without providing items. No reply at all from support. Holding my funds after more than 5 days.
I was buying a butterfly urban masked (ft) and I hit purchase, the site stated my card declined due to insufficient funds (I am certain enough funds were available) and then charged my card anyway without providing any items.
Update:
Funds were returned after 13 days. They held my money for essentially no reason. Not cool

Regarding the transaction:
Your payment highly likely never successfully reached us – it was declined by the payment processor, which means your bank held the funds temporarily (a common banking practice). These are automatically released by your bank within a certain period, usually a few business days.
While we understand the frustration, this delay is not caused by us, and we always recommend contacting your bank in these situations, as we can’t speed up a refund for a payment we never received.

SCAM. They do ANYTHING to not give you your money back
I started trying to verify almost 2 weeks ago and was denied twice. After being denied twice I was put in for manual verification which never got approved. Yesterday I was fed up with waiting and being patient, so I E-mailed support, After emailing support I decided to talk with the AI agent which allowed me to contact a human agent and I did so. Only about an hour ago did support respond by closing my E-mail ticket and using the AI support chat to say that my account was closed by their payment partner. I also tried to buy an M4 skin and they took my money without sending a trade or anything.

Horrible experience. I bought a pair of shadow daggers and I didn't receive anything, but the money was taken from my card. Gamerpay doesn't know how to answer the questions, they are invisible and don't even try to return the money back, I don't recommend this crappy site.

Your payment was never completed successfully on our end, and no money was received by GamerPay. That means the transaction was never captured – only temporarily reserved by your bank.
When this happens, the money is usually released automatically within a few days/weeks, depending on your bank’s policies. If you're still seeing the amount as “pending” or reserved, we strongly recommend contacting your bank directly and asking them to release the reservation.

BEWARE OF API SCAM
This marketplace has the cheapest skins for a reason. For you to log in with steam, deposit money, and make a purchase without thinking twice about.
As soon as I signed in through steam, I was then prompted to provide my trade link and steam API key. Providing a steam API key is normal through some marketplaces, specifically SkinBid, but can be very sketchy as you know.
Once I saw the prompt, I went to go get my tradelink from Steam and it looked like my account was banned or hacked or something. My steam profile picture turned into the classic black box with a ? and my steam name was also the classic 10+ digit number.
This sent me into a panic attack as I have never seen this before, and I immediately went to my settings and deauthorized all devices and went through all the other preventive steps.
Like I said before, I have used my API key with SkinBid, but I have never seen my steam account do that before and was scared for my life.
I went to check reviews for this site and what do you know, several others have experienced API problems, payment issues, and more.
Always read reviews before getting involved in marketplaces. I would highly recommend not using this site other than just buying some cases. Always think twice when things look to good to be true

🧩 On GamerPay, we ask for your Steam tradelink and API key regardless of whether you’re buying or selling. This is needed for our automated trading system to work – the exact same system used on sites like SkinBid or TradeIt. Without this, trades wouldn’t go through reliably.
❗However, we completely understand that this can feel confusing or suspicious if you’ve never encountered it before – especially given how common phishing scams are in the Steam trading space.
💡 The symptoms you describe – your profile picture disappearing and your username becoming a long number – do not happen on GamerPay and are often a sign that someone has accessed your API key and taken over your Steam profile. This could indicate:
You accidentally logged into a fake version of GamerPay (phishing), or
A third-party browser extension or scam site stole your credentials/API key
