I had a wonderful experience with GemsNY in obtaining a sapphire for my engagement ring. I had already found a designer for the setting, but needed to find the perfect stone. GemsNY attracted me because of its location in New York City and the ease of use of its website. I had a very specific color and shape in mind for the sapphire, and the GemsNY website allowed me to browse through all of its inventory and filter it to the stones to choose from. Once I settled on a bunch of potential stones, I made an appointment to view them in person. I worked with Ernie, who was not only very knowledgeable about gemstones but also very accommodating and personable. I actually went through two appointments and rounds of viewing stones before finally settling on the perfect stone that matched what I was looking for. Ernie was very patient throughout the process and painstakingly prepared each stone I requested for me to view and inspect in person. Being able to see and compare the stones in person was crucial to choosing the right one, and Ernie made that possible. He made me feel confident and put me at ease about my final choice. The whole process from browsing the website to scheduling the appointment, viewing the stones, and making the final purchase felt very smooth and was handled professionally. I would not hesitate to return to GemsNY again for any future jewelry purchases and would highly recommend them to my friends and family.

GemsNY turned our process of purchasing a ruby ring to a very pleasant experience. Since we bought a lose emerald two years ago, we were sure to return to Gems NY. Their website provides you all information you wish to know before you buy; most gemstones they offer, are shown enlarged, in the 360-degree view, so you can see an all-around presentation. You get the exact measurements and data on color, clarity, and origin as well. Plus, you can see copies of several certifications that you can double check with GIA etc. GemsNY gives the retail price of all their stones as well. Their website is informative and at the same time enjoyable.
When I had questions via email or on the phone, Ernie was very polite and helpful. He made for us real photos of some stones that I wished to see more realistic and provided useful hints that helped to decide.
This time we purchased not just a stone but a ring. Their jeweler did an excellent job to match the ruby with nice diamonds and created a beautiful ring.
I searched for similar jewelry in stores and I have to say, the prices that GemsNY is providing you as retail value, are accurate. We ordered an appraisal from our local independent jeweler on the emerald we purchased before and it did match the valuation of GemsNY.

I initially ordered a gem and standard setting, hoping it would match my earrings. I asked if the pendant could be modified slightly and sent a picture of the earrings I wanted to match it to. The pendant is a PERFECT match of the earrings - I am amazed and very pleased. I would highly recommend GNY!

I originally ordered a ring online and was extremely happy with the quality and price. Unfortunately, I lost this ring and was able to visit the NY office on vacation to arrange a replacement. Called to create a custom ring with a $50k sapphire. They made no attempt to even hear what the design was, repeating that it was impossible unless I had a picture of it. Since it's not something that I have ever seen, I have no picture of it.

"You can't even google it?" No, there is nothing like what I want to design out there. "It's not that hard, you should just google it. We won't bother without a picture."

Well, gee, if it was out there, then I would just buy it instead of dealing with a self absorbed jerk.

Everything is final sale (ie good luck if they mess up) and they refused to make plastic molds to assist with the process. Hundreds of dollars he says, it'll cost more than the ring. Basic math: $50k / $200 = 250. You would have to mess up a couple hundred times and then some to cost more than the gemstone alone.

Then he hung up. Horrible business practices.

Our experience shopping for a blue sapphire engagement ring at GemsNY was excellent. My fiancé and I are thrilled with the finished product and the service we got from Ernie. We enjoyed meeting with him personally in his Midtown office, where we got to pick out our perfect sapphire and he explained everything about the services GemsNY offered. He was very friendly and professional, and not at all pushy; we truly enjoyed working with him. We highly recommend and will be back when it's time to shop for wedding bands.
