Apps don't work, web pages are non-existent and support is dead. Nothing works so best avoid them.
Now not even the software download works. Total rubbish!
Hands off this product and supplier!
Unreliable, no customer support and the version 2 product seem to be even worse than their first initial one
Customer service (as many others reported) is just not existent and besides the automatic reply there isn’t any feedback
While the storage seem to work at the beginning it frequently fails to connect and other features do not work at all (eg face detection, duplicate detection)
Initially, a great product worked well, the app was a bit rubbish, but adequate. then it stopped working, tried contacting support, and got an automated response, waited 3 months, and no further email. tried another email.....still waiting. AVOID
This company is a RIPOFF. Their equipment ultimately fails after you have paid $$$ and there is NO SUPPORT. Many bad reviews on various sites including the Chicago area Better Business Bureau. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY A PRODUCT FROM A COMPANY THAT VALUES YOUR BUSINESS.
The product is greatat first, however when there is a problem there is zero support, I can no longer run the app on android dont no why but the support just ignores my support messages, Please avoid this product as its very flakey
stopped to back up data / no customer support
it was great but then suddenly it stopped to back up data without an fault message or such
I can not get back up to work and I can't change the backup to primary
contacted customer service multiple times without an answer for months
Very bad service. No response from support team over the last 2 months. Really bad. Not recommended for purchase of any of the products of
monument.
This worked great for me for the last 3 or 4 years. Now its suddenly stopped working properly. A good chunk of my photos don’t appear in the app (thankfully they are not deleted from my device). Contacted customer support several times over the past 4 months and nothing. Pretty much no social media (apart from twitter which no one looks at) and no other way to contact or review them. Disappointing.
A load of crap used to work ok now monument 2 is out my one now doesn't work keep trying to get help from support team now they just don't answer emails
I'm quite happy with the Monument.
It's just lacking a few things like backup through Ethernet.
Shame as it would be perfect then.
Good Product, Perfomed as promised.
My home internet speed is about 80mbps and for roughtly 34,000 photos and 3,500 videos It took me about 3 full days of Storage transfer from 2 phones to WD HDD drive. Once this was done it took about 2 days to analyse the photos into the application and then another 1-2 days for entire backup into my Toshiba drive.
It's only one time effort for large data for the first time when you connect. Once the legacy information has been transfered, it a cakewalk for everyday use.
My wife and I have checked it for about two weeks now and it's performing as promised in the ad.
Please remember one thing is that when you buy the HDD from outisde ensure you buy the basic hard dirve (Unencrypted one) otherwise monument will not recognise the same. I bought the Toshiba Basic Canvio 4TB (unenrypted ) for the same reason and not the Toshiba Advanced Canvio (encrypted HDD)
This is a wonderful new artefact in the shape of a box to organise countless photographs.
You need to provide your own storage media, but with 1 TB SSD drives coming in at under £100 and ordinary hard drives of up to 4 TB at under £50 that is acceptable, and, at the moment you need to source your own caddy for the drive you choose. The connection is visible at the back and obviously the appearance would be preferable if the drive could be fitted into and connected within the drive space.
It takes time to upload your countless photos from you computer hard drive, but uploading from your tablet or mobile phone, because there are probably less photos, is more speedy.
Once uploaded the software within the box organises the photos in accordance with the metadata (if any) into Locations, Scenes and, very helpfully, facial recognition and sorts your photos by date, location, camera, person and scene. It also gives you the ability to tag the photos.
Above all, however, after the initial outlay, (at the moment) there are no additional fees.
I moved to this upon the demise of Shoeboxapp, where my partner and I had both subscribed to the "Pro" edition at about £78 per year, so in two to three short years the Monument Photo Management Device will be showing a profit.
What is brilliant is that photos taken on your mobile or tablet are uploaded as soon as you come within your home wifi without the need to do anything, so you have a reliable backup readily available. You can then increase space on your mobile and tablet by deleting the photos, safe in the knowledge that they are stored within the drive attached to the box.
It would be advisable to backup the drive within the box, either to another drive or the cloud, but the box can be arranged as its own raid backup. That, however, would not guard against a local disaster. It would be helpful if the software would enable incremental back up.
There are improvements that doubtless will be made over time, but as a start up I believe this device is fully worthy of the 5 star rating I have given.
Since giving that review, I have been charged import duties and charges of £35.26, which, of course, has a slight effect on the financial position.
I'm reviewing as a long time user of this device. I used to maintain 5 different USB drives -some of them are back of another backup; now I have the peace of mind that all my photos are centralized and properly organized.
With the extra redundancy option, Monument creates an additional back up for me. My wife also uses the device and we can share albums and photos with each other.
The team behind is responsive and helps me with the questions.
Highly recommended for people looking for a long term photo backup solution.
