Life changing, pure and beautiful.
Traveling with GIVE to Tanzania was easily the best decision of my life. From teaching English to local women and mixing cement to finish the new teachers offices, to crazy adventure days and new lifelong friendships, I can't find the words to explain what this new home means to me. I can't thank Kairo village enough for welcoming me with open arms and teaching me not only so much about their culture, but also about myself. Thank you for changing my life forever. I wish I could shout on every single rooftop how beautiful Kairo is and how badly every single person needs to go and experience it for themselves and support the people that I call family. NAKUPENDA SANAAAA na see you soon!!!
Everything about the trip was amazing. The people, the guides, the local people, the food, the excursions. I can't say enough about this trip! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to make an impact and travel sustainably!
Habari Marafiki! 🇹🇿 A year ago, I encountered a bright green flier with the words “GIVE” in bold while sitting in my math class at Illinois State University. Feeling reverse culture shock after a transformative first semester of college living in Costa Rica, I can’t explain the happiness I felt when I saw this bright green opportunity in front of me. I now realize these moments we encounter, when our heart beats, our smile grows, and our minds turn their gears, are signs of a manifestation awaiting our presence. ✨ “If you have YOUR WILL, you’ll find YOUR WAY”. 🗺 This summer, I was blessed to travel to Africa, the motherland, for the first time, volunteer as an English teacher to a hardworking Masai tribe, sweat with the construction crew as we built cement pavements for the Yakairo GIVE primary school in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and go on insightful excursions: safari, swimming with dolphins, visiting the original slave market and museum in Stone town. Last week we ascended 5,895 meters to the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, Mt.Kilimanjaro! I couldn't have made it to the roof of Africa if it wasn't for every hand who helped make this experience possible for me, including the best guides, porters, chefs at Green Paw Adventures and supportive GIVE Volunteers in Tanzania! 🇹🇿 Congratulations to everyone pushing their limits and conquering new heights for themselves! 🏆 “Travel is not a place outside of reality, but into reality”. - Professor Kent, Suny Cortland, Ecotourism Course 🌏 Thank you GIVE (Growth International Volunteer Excursions) and the family of Kairo for touching me deeply with your smiles, your laughter, your dreams, your pole pole “slowly slowly” and hakuna matata “no worries” lifestyle. Above all, thank you for sharing your abundant love and care, without hesitation of giving me the shoes off your feet or a warm meal inside of your home. Thank you GIVE guides, volunteers, teachers, chefs, and the many helping hands that continue to help build our community up from its roots. 🌳 “Thank you again for supporting my beautiful village of Kario, it misses you all very much”. - Baboi, GIVE Tanzania Guide ❤️
Life-changing. I am never going to forget the people of Zanzibar and Kairo Village for being so welcoming and friendly and so ready to extend genuine warmth and love to us. I'm so happy that I went. We were well taken care of by guides and local staff, and I learned so much. I wish that I could stay there longer!
This is was my first volunteer trip with GIVE and I absolutely loved it. I just got back from my trip and it was fantastic. The guides were always there to answer our questions and if we had any issues with anything they were there to help us out. Never did I feel unsafe in the environment. my fellow volunteers were a constant encouragement during construction, education, and my additional trip to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. The locals were always happy and excited to see us and they understood that me and my group were not tourist. We were there to make change in the small town of Kairo. One of the best highlights of the trip was just seeing how free and happy the locals were and how inviting they were to include us in their daily lives. GIVE was excellent in response time before the trip even started and I had no flight troubles going and coming home. I honestly would do this trip again in the future because of how organized and safe it was. One thing I would recommend to any going to Tanzania would be to bring electrolytes and all the cash that you plan on spending in USD so your not constantly looking for an ATM when you run out of money. (There’s only a few opportunities to get cash) if you choose to do this trip have fun and embrace everyday with an open mind, you won’t regret it.
I highly recommend traveling through give volunteers. It was an experience of a lifetime and I’m looking forward to another trip with them. This is a legit program and they are very knowledgeable. I had a lot of questions through the whole process and someone was there to answer them all in a timely manner. There is a great balance of fun, work, and learning. I met so many new friends that I can count on even after the trip ended. The Tanzania program specifically was wonderful the community there is inspiring. The guides are amazing people who are there for you, very supportive, and really made the trip one to remember. If you are reading this because you’re undecided and need a sign, take this as your sign to book the Tanzania trip!
The safari was unreal and it was great to see the differences between Zanzibar and the mainland of Tanzania and the city of derusalaam
It was amazing. It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people. Everyone is so welcoming and kind. The love you will feel in Tanzania is amazing. Their culture is fantastic. Loved it!!
I had the most incredible time in Tanzania. The locals, guides and fellow volunteers were all amazing people, and it has inspired me to live a more fulfilling life. This trip was truly lifechanging.
Honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Every day I wish I could go back. The guides are amazing and the memories I made are priceless. If you’re thinking about booking a trip please do I promise you won’t regret it.
Tanzania is an incredible place to visit! Through Give I was able to learn more about the Tanzanian community and their customs.
To start off I wanna say that this trip was an experience that cannot be compared to anything I have ever done. It may sound redundant in these reviews but my trip to Kairo, Stone Town, and the mainland of Tanzania was the best two weeks of my life. I was welcomed with such overwhelming hospitality and kindness by all the locals and guides as well as all the other volunteers that went on the journey with me. All the accommodations provided were so safe and fully taken care of by my extraordinary guides, Sophie, Khamius, and Faith. At the hostels and hotels we stated in there was security which made me feel so secure and also clean rooms and bathrooms. Taking a chance on the trip is something that was hard for me at first especially traveling solo for the first time but it was the greatest decision I have made by far. I learned so much about tanzanian culture, muslim religion, the digital divide, how to vote using my dollar, ecotourism, and so much about myself and how I want to grow following the trip. Not only did we create miraculous change in Kairo but we had so much fun doing it too! So many important life lessons are implemented into the program that push you to be the best version of yourself alongside your new best friends and newly made family. The culture day, adventure day, and safari trip was so unimaginably fun and well planned out too. Therefore, I seriously recommend going on a GIVE trip, especially the one in Tanzania if you want to feel whole-hearted love and growth in your life
Traveling to Tanzania was truly incredible. From the people to the food to the atmosphere, it was unlike any place I had ever gone to. Getting to volunteer with the local community of Kairo and immersing myself into the culture were moments I will never forget. I would 100% urge anyone to go to Tanzania.
The Safari was the coolest experience I have ever had and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. Being able to see so many animals in their natural habitat while also learning about them and the national park was incredible.
This trip was absolutely life changing. From learning about the local culture, to volunteering, to free time in the ocean or chatting with locals, every single second was incredible and I learned something during each one. Though I landed in Zanzibar expecting to make an impact, a greater one was made one me. Nakupenda Kiaro!!
I'm excited to finally share my experience with GIVE Volunteers. I spent 2.5 weeks volunteering with GIVE experiencing meaningful travel that combines sustainable volunteer projects and epic adventures to discover the world and your purpose in it. I traveled to Zanzibar, Tanzania, spending most of my time in Kairo Village. GIVE has been able to accomplish many amazing achievements here, including building critical infrastructure, teaching English, and supporting women’s empowerment projects. Truly helping Kairo's community. In the past, many of the children in Kairo Village couldn’t afford the cost of transportation to the nearest school and therefore weren’t able to receive a formal education. When volunteering in Zanzibar, I was able to become part of the solution. My mornings were spent constructing builds and creating paths at Skuli ya Kairo GIVE (the school GIVE has built in the village). In the afternoons, I volunteered in the classroom teaching the wonderful ladies in the village intermediate English lessons. We learned conjunctions during those two weeks and at the end took a test. My overall experience in Zanzibar and Tanzania was amazing. The people, places, and adventures during this trip have been absolutely life-changing and truly an inspiration to find other ways I can make an impact while discovering the world. My guides and everyone at GIVE were fantastic. The locals were the nicest and most welcoming.
Adventure packed two weeks with lots of opportunities to meet locals and discover ways to help others.
My time in Tanzania was absolutely amazing. Everyone I encountered was kind and genuine; the sense of community was remarkable. This country is so incredibly beautiful and has so much to offer for all people.
