Signing with GoFundMe was an awesome…

Signing with GoFundMe was an awesome experience. I closed the account for personal reasons but I'd like to sign up again since my goal wasn't met and I wanted to help my son with his health concerns to fund his Meningioma treatment. I hope I am still welcome to open a new account.

Verification methods are discriminatory

Even though I have created numerous successful fundraisers over the years with Go Fund Me, suddenly there is a requirement for a cell phone number to create a fundraiser. I don't user a cell phone for health reasons, so this isn't possible for me.

I attempted to use the cell phone number that belongs to the person I am creating the fundraiser for and made the request to switch to this number.

It took 3 days for Go Fund Me to get back to me and during that time I decided to create my fundraiser with Spot Fund instead, which went well. I then tried to deactivate my Go Fund Me account, which also required a cell phone verification, which obviously I could not do.

When Go Fund Me did finally get back to me they were very courteous and willing to deactivate my account for me and thanked me for my feedback. But they were unwilling to modify their verification method of requiring a cell phone.

I let them know this was a discriminatory practice and that Social Security and my credit union also offer email verification or an actual phone call as an alternative verification method. The service rep said she would pass on my feedback which I appreciated and hope that they eventually change the requirements.

In the meantime the many people who are Emf sensitive and unable to use a cell phone are left out, which is discriminatory.

Very impressed with Gofundme

Very impressed with Gofundme and the ease of use through out the whole process. From setting it up, to mass emails of thanks, to depositing funds, to responding to questions even after the campaign is over, all went smoothly. Two hints for anyone starting with GoFundMe; don't start on weekend because only their AI bot is available to help and sometimes it seems to get caught in a loop. Second, when people say that GoFundMe takes a 2.9 % and .30 cents per transaction (which is so worth it to make your fundraiser run smoothly) remind them that on average charities put anywhere from 22 - 35 % of all money raised back into the advertising to get more money.

Fraud...

Fraud.... We've had monies in the account for 3 weeks we can't get them deposited into the account every time I talk to GoFundMe there's a different account rep they have to go through their due diligence with takes an hour this has gotten absolutely ridiculous. They don't have a phone number so that you can't talk with anyone live which means you have to text or email which look it up it counts for about 25% of understanding when you communicate they need to have a live operator to talk to us.

I highly recommend never using these people they charge too much they hold your funds for too long there are better crowdfunding apps out there than these idiots

Helpful Agents, But No Results

My experience was mixed. The GoFundMe agents did a great job and were helpful when I had questions, so I appreciate their support. What went wrong for me was that getting donations was much harder than expected, even with views and updates to my fundraiser. It can feel discouraging when people see the page but do not donate. I think the company could improve by giving fundraisers more guidance, better tips for reaching the right supporters, and more tools to help turn views into donations. I gave one star not 5 stars.

Having an absolute NIGHTMARE with go fund me. Been trying for over a month now to get donations refunded due to the campaign changing and I have literally gone back and forth over email around 20 times now and STILL NO BLOODY REFUNDS!! They keep going around and around in circles asking the same questions. They then said they’d done the refunds. 2 weeks later I messaged a lady to check she’d received her refund and she hadn’t. So again, I’m chasing it up. It’s exhausting!!

They’ll take the money and do everything they can to hold up giving the money either to you or to refund it.
Never using them again!!

Blocked Our Humanitarian Fundraising for GAZA

Our NGO launched a fundraising campaign on this platform to provide humanitarian support to Palestinian children during the Gaza genocide. GoFundMe abruptly blocked the campaign and refunded the donations to contributors. When we requested an explanation, no reason was provided. We are deeply shocked by this decision, which appears to be a political action taken against a purely humanitarian initiative, resulting in the freezing of critical aid efforts.
