Nice interface, poor snare and limited flexibility: Not yet ready for professional use
After careful consideration, I decided to purchase one of GoranGrooves’ products in order to test the quality before possibly investing in the full bundle (Producer Collection). In hindsight, this turned out to be the right decision, as the product ultimately disappointed me.
I purchased Handy Drums – Jazz Standard v2 in November 2025.
Positive points:
The interface is clean and about 90% intuitive, which is a plus.
The metallic sounds (especially the cymbals) are very good.
The kick drum is acceptable, though there are free alternatives that sound better.
Negative points:
The snare drum sounds absolutely poor.
There is only one single sample per instrument. If there were multiple options, at least one snare might be usable, but there is no such choice. Even some free plugins offer multiple samples per instrument.
It is not possible, or at least not easy to find, a way to load your own samples. If such an option exists, it is very well hidden. After 45 minutes of searching, I gave up. Again, many free plugins provide this feature. For a product advertised as “ready to use,” this is a major drawback.
Why 3 stars?
Because the cymbals do sound good and could serve as a complementary sound source in some situations. However, at its current stage, I cannot consider this a product suitable for professional use. I am relieved that I did not purchase the full bundle.
