I hired a car from Magic Car Hire in Madeira via GotRentalCars. My £1,500 security deposit has still not been returned more than a month after returning the vehicle. I have repeatedly tried contacting the company by email and telephone with little success and have now had to ask my bank to investigate. I will update this review if the matter is resolved.

Sixt were not happy I used this company to book through as it stated all insurance included & road side assistance. When Sixt tried to upsell me insurance I showed them my Gotrentals.com paperwork which stated road side assistance included but they said no it was not. Lucky didn’t need it in this trip!
Gotrentals.com Were the absolute best price but the address is given as France and the rental companies do not seem to like that.

One of the most important things about this booking is that I managed to speak to someone on the phone before I made the booking...That for us was very important to speak to a human being...it has not value!

Rented our car through Gotrentals and Autocandia. The local car hire in Kefalonia was Katsouris rental. They were so friendly, had a perfect rental car. Met at the airport all went so smoothly. I will use them again. Great service

We used Gotrentalcars last year without issue. This year i booked for our upcoming trip an identical car - SUV or similar. When the booking came through it came up as a Prius. We rang customer services to attempt to amend the booking to spend 40 minutes on the phone with two women laughing at us attempting to change the booking and when asked to speak to a manager stated that the manager could only speak French. Utterly disgusting. Worst customer service experience I think I've ever had. The savings are not worth the rudeness and shambles of a company.

Unfortunately, an extension of some of the more unscrupulous aspects of this industry. They will lure you in with competitive pricing and then pass you on to providers who try to corner you into paying much more for, frankly, outrageous reasons.

Case in point. Confirm a booking with a rental company who will only accept a small range of credit cards. Will not accept Mastercard or visa debit cards with relevant funds attached nor American American Express credit cards.

Therefore, you need to purchase insurance through them (not needed) for three times the price of the initial booking….how does one purchase more from vendor who doesn’t accept any of your cards? Make it make sense.

So, I cancel at the desk and ask for a refund. I am to contact GotCarRental, I do this the following day - there is a cancellation charge almost exactly to the amount paid - colour me surprised.

Avoid and go through a larger reputable provider to avoid the stress. The perceived savings isn’t worth it.
