Grange Superior Closeboard panels

Bought Grange Superior Closeboard 5ft high fence panels a year ago from Jewsons to renew my boundary. Very disappointed. One year on and the every panel has warped slats, and some split. The fixings to the battens aren't up to standard. Just to be clear these have all been treated with a quality uhv protective paint as well.

Very poor quality products

I bought 4 gates and 1 fence panel. The gates all warped as soon as the sun hit them. The Grange rep who made a point of saying she'd phone me after her visit neither phoned and won't answer an email, instead choosing to blame the installation for the failure of the product.

This is despite Grange themselves saying 'As this hot summer isn't good for timber and the heat does make timber warp as it's a natural product, we recommend that customers water their products overnight and allow them to naturally straighten' This is taken from a reply to another customer on 23rd August 2018 (scroll down the reviews)

I suspect she won't answer the email as she can't argue with the points made and the photographic evidence so chooses to ignore it.

Poor quality products with non existent customer service.

My builder bought fence panels from

My builder bought fence panels from
Grange thinking they were good quality. Shocking quality. Splintering right left and centre. I do not think they will withstand the kids kicking a plastic ball at them more than once.

Avoid.

Grange Fence Panels - DO NOT BUY

AVOID. I paid more than the average fence panel price for Grange Superior Lap Panels thinking they would be superior. In my experience they are anything but. They have warped, shrunk and the knots are falling out which has resulted in gaps appearing between the slats. Privacy is lost and they look awful. These panels are expensive, but are really poor and I would recommend that you buy any make other than these. I have made a very expensive mistake, please don't do the same.

Grange Fencing appear with words like…

Grange Fencing appear with words like superior and premium but be warned they are inferior. I purchased 4 lapped panels 5 months ago the knots are falling out, there are gaps I can see through, and the wood is warping. I rang customer care and got no joy. If you care for your garden do not buy from this company.

Grange shoddy 'superior'fence panels

Grange 'superior'fence panels were supplied by a landscaping company. Very light, flimsy and thin with lots of gaps and very weak, thin rail batons. Look shoddy and expect them to need replacing soon. Avoid these panels, maybe worth the 19.99 they charge in b&m but best avoided.

I ordered 5 grange superior 6x6 fence…

I ordered 5 grange superior 6x6 fence panels from Buildbase, rubbish do not touch Grange fence panels they are unfit for the use. The timber is flimsy they do not overlap enough you can see through the gap. Only every other strip is fixed. I contacted Buldbase but that was a waste of time. Please do not waste your money.

Poor Products

Poor Products - purchased planters which after 6 months have pretty much let go. A lot of the screws had to find their way through knots which is less than ideal. Having seen some of their fence panels too I would not be buying them, buy some cheap ones and just make sure you treat them with good quality paint/preservative.
Their customer service team are obviously doing their best - clearly higher up the food chain needs addressing!!.

Shockingly poor service

Placed an order on-line 1 week later no contact for delivery. Sent several emails and phoned 2 numbers with messages left - no return answer. Looks like I now have to visit in person to resolve. So far service has been shockingly poor

Bought four 6x6 foot ultimate lap…

Bought four 6x6 foot ultimate lap panels. Initially happy as seemed robust. After being up for only a few months many of the knots in the wood have fallen out. Worse still a number of the horizontal slats have slipped down. Now held together by a number of screws. Wish I had just bought cheap panels at half the price. Not the premium product I was expecting

Stunningly poor service

Just stunningly poor service, item arrived with parts missing, other parts bent and twisted. Took 2 months to resolve and send a replacement, and I still have the one to be returned sat on my front lawn. Even on the scheduled second delivery date they gave me it still didn't come! Every time I phoned they said someone would look into it and get back to me, not once did they do this. I complained via phone and email, and no on even bothered to come back to me about my complaint! Great way to treat a trade that deals with timber products on a daily basis!

I don't even want to give them 1 star…

I don't even want to give them 1 star but couldn't make a comment unless I did! In January 2017 the builders of my annexe supplied 12 fence panels and posts as part of their remit and I requested another 30 to do the rest of the garden at a huge expense of nearly £4K (supply and install). Immediately I complained to the builders that I was not happy with the quality and as they were under 'guarantee', wanted the panels with issues replaced. They informed me that Grange said because they were outside, it made the guarantee invalid. Who has a fence inside? I have since on two occasions contacted Grange Fencing, supplying photos of the panels - splitting, separating, etc and am still awaiting to hear from them. I am not holding out much hope of this happening from a company who's customer service is disgusting. Within weeks, my fence looked like it had been up for 20 years! Don't buy their product. You'll be very disappointed and will have wasted a lot of hard earned money.

Hi Jill R
As you have been told on social media, we have no record of you contacting our Home Delivery department to complain about your Grange products. Our guarantee is readily available on our website, and at no point do we say it is voided by fence panels being outside so unfortunately your contractors have misled you there. Please contact our Home Delivery on 01952 588088 who are happy to resolve this promptly. Please email your pictures to homedelivery@grangefen.co.uk with your order number to help with your query. Kind regards, Grange Fencing

1* for poor quality product

1* for poor quality product - I purchased 7 Grange closeboard fence panels via the internet with Elbec Garden Buildings (very good company) & after 15 months all panels had opened up, warped & split. I sent photo's of the panels to Elbec who liased with Grange. They agreed to replace all 7 panels. After just 2 days of the new panels being slotted into the concrete posts & onto concrete gravel boards the new panels started to open up again. There are various gaps of 1cm+ where the boards have separated. I made contact with Elbec again, asked for my money back which they have agreed to do. My customer experience with Grange has been OK & Elbec have been good. The Grange closeboard 6'x6' fence panels are of an inferior quality & I believe are not fit for purpose. I would most definitely not recommend these panels. Just to be clear my customer experience with Grange has been OK, this review is for poor quality goods.

Hi Mr Gardner,
We are really sorry to hear about the problems you've experienced with our closeboard fence panels. As this hot summer isn't good for timber and the heat does make timber warp as it's a natural product, we recommend that customers water their products overnight and allow them to naturally straighten. You may have to do this a few times, but it should resolve your problem with gaps. We're glad to hear our Home Delivery team very helpful! Kind regards, Grange

Looks great in the picture but watch out!!

I purchase a corner arbour made by them from a garden website and had big problems fitting the trellis roof sections which were all warped. So much so, that there was a 50 mm gap at both ends on some joints. There are also some trellis side panels which were warped, but more easily hidden. I got the blame for the problem because I had pre-treated the timber before assembly.
If you buy anything made by them check it thoroughly before you start

Hi Mr Keel,
We apologise sincerely for any problems you have had with our products. We do recommend the hot weather dopes dry out the timber and therefore makes it warp, and we have a document on our website which recommends you water your fence panels to allow them to straighten themselves out. Also we recommend you don't treat products as you void your guarantee.
Kind regards, Grange Fencing

Grange Fencing Ltd (grangefen.co.uk) Disgrace!

Poor Quality Product, and Zero Support So Far. Purchased a pergola from Grange Fencing Ltd (grangefen) The product arrived, and immediately I could see that all the wood was in a very poor condition. Even the delivery driver told me the supplier leaves the products outside after manufacture, and this was evident to see.

There was heavy glue like markings all over the posts and beams, that were very unsightly, like glue that had saturated through the wood.

Also, some of the wood was already splitting from exposure to the elements (proof that it has been stored outside for a long time).

I have contacted Robert Dyas and the supplier (Grangefen), and at the time of writing, there has been no resolution, or a reply to my emails - even though I took a whole day off to fit this pergola!!

I am actually insulted that I was sent a product that has obviously not been stored correctly, and that quality control must have had a day off, when passing this pergola as fit for dispatch.

I cannot recommend this product, or grangefen.

Yes, I have sent these photos to both Robert Dyas, and Grangefen, and still heard nothing.

Extremely disappointing, and on the back of this, it is highly unlikely I will be using Robert Dyas, or Grangefen again in the future.

If this is not resolved quickly, I will be placing a chargeback on my credit card.

I was promised an urgent replacement 5 days ago (the seller also stated this), and so far have had zero communication since, and still no sign of the actual product I paid for.

Absolutely disgraceful way to run a business.
