Brand: U.S. Wellness Meats

Have you tried and fell in love with Pemmican? If so, Salt-Free Beef Pemmican Pail is a more cost-effective and convenient way for you to enjoy Pemmican. It is the same recipe as Salt-Free Beef Pemmican Bars, only in a 2-pound pail. The adaption of US Wellness Meats’ Salt-Free Beef Pemmican Bar has no honey, cherries, or salt. It is a simple combination of only two ingredients, but so satisfying. It was created at the request of customers who are on no sodium diets, or extremely low sodium diets. When comparing fats for cooking and consumption, remember; all fats are not created equal. Conjugated Linoleic Acid or (CLA) is an omega-6 fatty acid (naturally occurring trans fat) found primarily in Beef and Dairy. Studies have shown these fats may provide a whole host of health benefits. These are very different from the trans fats found in manufactured hydrogenated vegetable oils which have been linked to inflammation and obesity. The reason why grass-fed is important in this regard is because the amounts of CLA present depends significantly on what the animals eat. By most estimates, grass-fed and grass-finished beef and dairy can be 300-500% richer in CLA than grain-fed animals. Your preference for storage will determine the pemmican’s shelf life. We suggest the following storage guidelines to our customers: Store pemmican bars and pails in the freezer for 2 years Store pemmican bars in the refrigerator for up to two weeks Store pemmican pails in the refrigerator for up to 7 days Pemmican bars with sea salt are ok for weekend camping trip without refrigeration Keep in mind the label recommends to keep frozen for best practice If you have questions about the history, usages, and storage of Pemmican, visit US Wellness Meats’ Pemmican Blog Page. Ingredients: beef jerky, beef tallow Each Salt-Free Beef Pemmican Pail averages 2 pounds. All of US Wellness Meats’ beef products are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished.

This was my first time trying pemmican. It was interesting. I look at as a “it gets the job done” type of meal. Two things: 1. I wish that it was more shelf/freezer stable. 2. I wish it was vacuum sealed flat like a sheet. This way you could freeze it, score it, and break it up into squares for a serving on-the-go.

I bought beef pemmican from US Wellness for many years but stopped during the Pandemic because the quality diminished. The ratio of fat to beef increased to an unacceptable level. I recently decided to try the product again, and the quality has been restored. When I previously purchased the product, free shipping was available for an eight-pound purchase, the equivalent of four pails. Now, free shipping is available with a fifteen-pound purchase, the equivalent of 8 pails. This makes the product less affordable and desirable for me because it is untenable for one consumer to purchase the product in that quantity.

I found it hard to eat 2 lbs of pemmican before mold set in. I was very happy with the product but will buy the 2oz packages next time.

This stuff really isn’t even edible. I’ve been making my own for years, this product seemed worth purchasing since making your own is so time consuming to do correctly. I was wrong. It tastes and smells really bad and it made me nauseous and gave me diarrhea. I was told that they can’t grind the lean meat when it’s dry (that’s what makes the pemmican shelf stable) so they leave moisture in it and then it must remain frozen. I was told to mix it with honey for flavor. I did that so that it wouldn’t go to waste, but then it made me sick. If you bought this, I recommend checking to be sure it’s ok before relying on it for food. Smells like catfish bait, tastes like bad dog food. Do not buy this
