The holiday was a complete success The organisation was perfect Food and accomodation very good indeed Enjoyed every excursion especially the train trips
My main concern with this itinerary was the location of the hotel in Wetheral relative to the destinations visited each day. Whilst the Crown Hotel was fine (apart from the seriously expensive wine prices - £11 for a 250ml glass!), each day involved several hours in a coach, all travelling south. Perhaps a more central base could be found in Kendal or even Penrith? Our tour manager Kathy was very friendly, and successfully completed the trip with the same 38 people she started out with!

The tour was well organised with a great tour rep. Accommodation and food were of a high standard and the location of our hotel was spot on.

This was our first trip with Great Rail and we felt that everything was well organised and Adele was an excellent tour manager. We enjoyed all the trips and the group size was about right. The hotel staff were very good and the food was excellent, particularly at dinner. We have marked the overall tour as a 4 rather than 5 star as I think we were maybe unlucky with the room allocated to us which was a bit tired, excessively hot and on occasions very noisy. We also thought it was unfortunate that our group were unable to eat together on the last morning as preference was given to another tour. Overall, we would be happy to do another similar tour with Great Rail in the future.
We had a very enjoyable holiday and the weather was beautiful. We have given this holiday 4stars instead of 5 because we feel there was too much travelling mainly by coach to our destination each day. It would have been better if the hotel was more central to the lakes.
It was very good that it was a small group of 25, Adele was an excellent tour manager and everything went smoothly. We had a small issue with heating in our hotel room which wasn’t resolved until the day we left but food was excellent and the voucher scheme re servicing was an excellent, green idea. Wetheral was a lovely place to be based. Some of the trips, bus and train were a bit long but generally it was good. We loved Grasmere but didn’t like Bowness but that’s personal choice probably. Likewise the time in the stations was a bit too long for us but maybe not for others. We’re going to Italy in September with your company too and think the couple of free days interspersed will be a good idea to recuperate in between busy days.

The trip was very well organised, coach and train travels were excellent with great excursions. The Crown hotel staff were lovely but the hotel is a little tired. Our room was above the kitchen and this meant we had the noise from the extractor fan from 6am to late at night. Overall a wonderful trip
Everything was fine and the trips didn't disappoint. Hotel was lovely and tour manage exceptional.
Excellent trip and guide.
Our third trip with Great Rail Journeys and as always it was well-managed. The hotel was friendly, helpful and comfortable and the staff were very willing to help,especially Kim on the front desk. Our Tour Manager, Ruth, was exceptional and was always around when needed. The trips were good and the coach excellent and air conditioned (it was HOT!). The boat trip and rail journeys were most enjoyable. We were based a long way from all our destinations, so had a lot of coach travel and very few lakeside views. The falconry display was well worth the visit, and the staff there were very helpful. Our next trip is already booked for September - we find these breaks so relaxing.
