A well organised and beautiful trip. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of it. The tour managers were very friendly and efficient.
An excellent stay in Lisbon followed by a wonderful, relaxing journey along the scenic Douro River. The Douro Estrella is a great new ship, the cabins, restaurant, food and other facilities were perfect.
4 Major issues: Very late scheduled flight to Lisbon. Sintra has got to be a guided tour. Failed air con on a 1 year old boat. Last minute cancellation of city tour of Porto.
Lisbon was great and the Douro absolutely beautiful! MS Estrela & crew were wonderful and could not do enough for you, as were the local guides! Cruise Director and Cruise Manager were absolutely fabulous always around and happy to help you with anything, cannot fault this aspect of the cruise. The food was ok, 1st night and captain’s dinner were good, as were breakfasts and light snacks - you would not go hungry for sure. The other meals were nothing to write home about. Portuguese cuisine is excellent as we experienced on our Lisbon stay. Unfortunately the food on the MS Estrela was very international and this could have offered more local food choices like simple grilled mackerels, or locally caught langoustines/scampi. The excursions were all led by very experienced local guides with excellent knowledge. The only thing we regretted was that there were not enough walking/hiking opportunities. Fully understand the average age & mobility may be an influencing factor for this, however with 3 buses for each excursion, these could have been easily split up by mobility. We drove through a beautiful National Park and apart from a 5 minute stop we could not really enjoy this. The same with the beautiful Douro area, visits to Port vineyards could have offered a 30 minute walk through the vineyards for fast walking people. Porto was the biggest disappointment for us, as the guided sight seeing was done on a bus, followed by another port tasting …. We had expected the guided sightseeing to be on foot at least partially. Again 3 groups could have been split up by activity level, one on foot, one partially by bus and one totally by bus. This is constructive feedback
