Great trip - the boat was lovely & very comfortable, & the staff were fantastic. Not the easiest week for our tour director & manager given the Danube water levels but everyone went over and above to give us a great experience

Sweet & Sour. Just returned from Danube cruise. Ship, crew and waiting staff all excellent (5*). HQ management morally inept. Tried to change dates twice (not cancel) due to low levels but was declined. Only cruised for 4 days which totally ruined our 50th anniversary treat we'd been looking forward to for 6 years lead up. They knew that would be the case but practically press ganged us into setting sail and then dropping the bomb a couple of days into the cruise informing us of the changes. Fuming, my wife deserved better for putting up with me for over 50 years!!!
It was our first river cruise and despite not being able to finish the cruise due to low water in The Danube, the experience was excellent but we learnt it wasn't for us.
The cruise was cut by 1/3 one day before we left and we were told we could not cancel, we ended the holiday in a floating hotel and all we could see outside our window was another boat. Not what I payed £5000 for. Still waiting for an acceptable outcome.

Our 4th holiday with Great Rail Journeys and once again the team on the ship excelled themselves - thank you especially to Jackie and her team. The low water levels on the Danube could easily have ruined it but they pulled out all the stops to ensure we got to the last two destinations on the journey by coach and rail. On top of that they burnt the midnight oil rearranging our flights home from Vienna instead of Budapest, not an easy job. The service on board was excellent as always and the excursions ran so smoothly that the whole experience was first class. We are already thinking of where to go on our 5th holiday with GRJ - thank you, Five stars doesn't do them justice. They are our number one choice for holidays now.
First rate holiday I wont hesitate to use them again
Had a very good week on our river cruise to Veinna, as did not get to Budapest, due to water levels, the food was excellent, cabin very comfortable.
Disappointed that due to low water levels we were unable to get to Budapest so 2 days in Bratislava. We saw most of this on first day, second day a trip to local Devín castle which we could not view as my husband is disabled. We were told only one suitcase per cabin but most travellers appeared to have double this. Our departure from Budapest airport was challenging, so disorganised, Insufficient staff to transport disabled people in wheelchairs so I had to push my husband through customs , not easy! On a positive note, staff and food were excellent. As river water levels are regularly low in July, perhaps this month should not be available for bookings otherwise you don’t get value for money.

We could not fault the service displayed by all members of the cruise ship. Although overall the trip was "value" for money", the cost was quite expensive.
Great holiday visiting five countries from the comfort of your own cabin. The crew made everything run smoothly and the food was fantastic.
Excellent food, and very helpful crew
Ship spotless and cabins well designed and comfortable. Staff on board the Amadeus Cara were excellent. Food wonderful. Great excursions. A memorable experience.
The best Food, Tours, Guides, plus Both Andrew & Maria Management team. Cleanliness of boat. Logistics let us down.
Couldn't fault cruise, cruise director or manager. Food and Amadeus staff were excellent. However, BA Heathrow check in was a disorganised mess . Baggage failed to arrive in Munich on flight and was sent on next flight. On return from Budapest we waited nearly 90 mins for luggage causing us to miss the train we were hoping to get back home from Euston Station meaning another long wait. I would prefer not to fly with this airline again give a choice.
An amazing itinerary on a 5 star ship with the most wonderful food, great service and leaving one with good memories and a longing to repeat the wonderful holiday again if you could. This trip was a bucket list cruise for me and it met and exceeded all of my expectations.
Very relaxing holiday. Tours were very informative and I would recommend.
Wonderful trip, great staff and excellent food. Trips were well organised although a bit hot in Vienna. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely beautiful and first class the whole way
Our third river cruise with Great Rail Journeys in 18 months and it won't be our last. As ever the conditions on board, Amadeus Cara were first class, the crew on board very attentive, nothing too much trouble. On the day excursion to Salzburg too events happened, by early afternoon I had a bout of sciatica making it difficult to walk, and, my wife who unfortunately had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's decided to go for a walk. I must mention Maria Bracewell (Cruise Manager) who a helped with Police and the medics for myself. I stayed the night in Salzburg, my wife was found and brought back to the hotel at 02.15. I must mention Ash at HQ for all his help in getting us back the following day, to the Amadeus Cara at Durnstien where we continued our crise to Budapest. Included in this thanks for a great helpful effort was Andrew Thompson, Cruise Director. We cannot thank everyone at Great Rail Journeys enough for making it a great holiday. We will definitely be back for more
This was a fabulous cruise on the Amadeus Cara. The ship was superb, with plenty of space, and very well appointed bedrooms. The whole team, from housekeeping to chefs to front of house, were tremendous. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the cruise itself finished in Budapest, but only arrived in Budapest at lunchtime on the final day. With an evening floodlit cruise, which was amazing, this did not give enough time to explore this beautiful city.
