Re our Rhine in Flames trip in September our main complaint relates to the mooring in Strasbourg. We arrived in Strasbourg in the afternoon on day 6 and found the ship being tied up in an old commercial dock outside town and with the view of old warehouses and silos. However, with plenty of time to spare before dinner, being good walkers, and having been given a map with the walking route hand-marked by the staff, we set off to walk into town. After about 15 minutes we still hadn’t got very far and turned back. We had not been the only ones to give up. Had we been adequately informed we could have taken a taxi. The next morning we had the guided coach trip into Strasbourg – quite a long drive considering we were supposed to be in Strasbourg – followed by the walking tour, which we had to cut short as, when finally some toilet facilities at the main square were reached, they were found to be out of order. There was no alternative for us than to leave the tour and visit a restaurant. To get to the return coach was another long walk owing to coaches required to park near the edge of the town, and then only for a short while. Initially we had planned to return to the town after lunch on the ship, to take a little landtrain circuit through the old town, but lunch, having taken longer than expected and being faced with two further long walks from and back to the coach, we stayed on board. Consequently, between days 6 in the afternoon and day 8 in the morning we had about one and a half hours in Strasbourg, the town supposedly being one of the highlights of the trip. There was also a disappointment in Ruedesheim. On the map we had been given, ship’s staff had marked for a possible visit a Torture Museum. This, however, couldn’t be located as it had closed down a few years previously, we eventually found out. With the food choices we were very happy, but our vegan companions were not always catered for adequately. To get a table for 4 at dinner time one had to quey early and rush into the dining room as it was always free-for-all. A booking system would be more relaxing. We would also have liked water-refill stations and the one tea/coffee maker in the public area at the very back of the ship for the 150 guests is not enough. The evening entertainment lacked local flavour and management seemed to lack local knowledge as the on-board information on the daily trips was minimal. Based on this and a similar complaint we had to make after a rail trip to the Dordogne earlier this year we shall not book with this company again.

Great trip but too much coach and train changing for us as we don't have direct access to St Pancras.. would have preferred flight option

Overall it was a good cruise. The ship was very nice. Good size cabin, lovely food & mostly friendly nice staff. We enjoyed the fireworks & several of the stops but overall the Rhine is a bit repetitive more & more castles.
Staff, food, trips and rooms all very good. To much nice food, need to go on a diet before and after trip 🤣🤣🤣
Excellent cruise, in fact we enjoyed it so much that we have already booked another one for next year.
Excellent trip… well paced, great food, lovely destination
We were disappointed with the fireworks, as this was the main selling point of the holiday. The suite accommodation on Amadeus Imperial was excellent as were the staff and food. The excursion were generally of a high standard and very enjoyable although we would have liked to have more free time to wander and browse particularly in Heidelberg. GRJ staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.
Excellent and wonderfully organized
The fireworks were a damp squib. We couldn't see everything from the boat.
Nice boat and groups small enough to be inclusive. Lots of food and free wine with meals but slightly too fancy for my plain tastes. Excursions mostly good apart from one that was rushed. We parked up quite a way from the fireworks and it was a long wait for them!
The cruise as a whole was excellent, but the positioning of the boat during the firework display meant we believe that we missed the flotilla of illuminated small boats.
Rather chaotic arrival at Cologne, should have had transport to ship some less able people took taxis. Long sailing days though boring upper Rhine were disappointing. Some good port's, some too small for interest
An excellent trip on board MS Amedeus Imperial. Superb food and good excursions.
Everything was superb, food, wine, service, tha staff were first class as the boat itself
Amadeus Imperial…..our first river cruise….now we expect nothing but the best ever again! The ship is immaculate, cabins comfortable, food to die for, excursions superb, crew are simply amazing with such a friendly outlook always smiling nothing is too much trouble. We loved everything about the trip….and the Rhine in Flames evening was outstanding!
Excellent cruise but very down by a mediocre fireworks display which was what the holiday was billed as to be the highlight of the trip other than this i can have nothing but praise for the crew and also the toure managers Jaquie and Debs who made our trip interesting and fun
Disappointing. The Rhine in Flames in Oberweisel was underwhelming. Perhaps it is better in other parts of the Rhine? The two tour directors on the boat were enthusiastic but seemed to be a separate entity to the crew of the Amadeus. I felt that the way we were treated was at times like being in a care home, being called Darling, or Sweetie. There were positives, such as the reception and departure tour guides, but in sum I felt that GWJ needed to up their game and add more polish and style. Moorings, apart from Koln and Koblenz, need to be closer to the centres. Strasbourg, as an example, was a 20 minute coach journey into the centre; too far to walk. That said, we enjoyed the restaurant and our on board meals. Thank you.
An excellent holiday, well organised, good food and great scenery
