Very enjoyable, a few tweaks would improve the trip
The Harrogate inn was good be we didn't get the rooms we were paid for until we questioned it , then at Linden hall same thing happened as above the lift wasn't working the 3 days we were there and the food was just edible

We would have given 5 stars but for the evening meals at the first hotel - delay and sometimes absence of what was ordered. Mr Harris being on a low fat diet, it was only the intervention of Heather who, by the way, was excellent, that they provided a low fat spread for breakfast. We would certainly give Heather 5 stars and the tour content 5 stars.

It was a well organised tour to a lovely part of the North East. The tour manager was very supportive of everybody. I enjoyed it enormously.
Very nice holiday and very well organised would recommend to all
The tour was excellent apart from the Linden Hotel, which was very tired looking. Our bedroom was in need of redecorating, especially the carpet and the bathroom as a whole. A large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon was £20. The Harrogate Hotel was perfect, as we're the various trips during our stay.
Booking was really simple and the reservations staff were very helpful and quick to reply to questions or requests by phone and email. It was our second holiday with GRJ and it was lovely with plenty of interesting locations and train journeys, together with views of the stunning Northumberland coast. A nice introduction to an area we had not visited before. The tour was well paced for us with plenty of spare time although on some days this time might have been better spent back at the hotel. We had a great tour manager, Mary, who was efficient and well informed and made our trip very special. Neil, our first coach driver, gave plenty of commentary on the area with many amusing stories. The Harrogate Inn was pleasant and very well located although working out which guest had ordered which dish resulted in a rather slow and chaotic dinner time. The Linden Hall Hotel was also well placed and in beautiful grounds. It is, however, a shame that the evening meals in the hotel restaurant fell far short of the standard one would expect from Macdonald Hotels. However, all in all, it was an excellent holiday and I am looking forward to my next Great Rail Journey.
A really lovely holiday that completely lived up to our expectations
The travelling was excellent, as was the Tour Guide. An excellent programme. The hotels, particularly Morpeth, had issues with regard to suitability for the age profile of the group, and the ability to provide the necessary flexibility when it came to deadlines. Neither hotel had working lifts - putting 80 year olds on the third floor not good! The Company should check and confirm that the hotel management are fully aware of what is involved in hosting this kind of a group. There were clearly kitchen issues at the Morpeth hotel (Chicken Supreme turned out to be a roast with very stringy meat and raw broccoli, and the gammon was cooked to the consistency of corrugated cardboard. Breakfast service was hap-hazard and appalling. Staff were fine, clearly embarrassed by what was going on in the kitchen ... enough said, I won't go into the fruit salad!). But it was a great holiday, and congratulations to our skilful and patient Tour Manager, Garth for the way he took us through the week, and helped us deal with the unlooked for and unavoidable delays on our homeward journeys.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the trip, Rosie our Tour Manager was brilliant along with a great group of people to share it with, will definitely book another trip.
