Crayford Aldi

Crayford Aldi - selling rotten meat again!

I have encountered issues with purchasing spoiled meat from the supermarket on several occasions. Despite my complaints, the store's response has been limited to issuing refunds, which has left me feeling dissatisfied with their customer service. As a result, I am now hesitant to shop there again.
I feel it is time to have the store checked by food standards agency, before someone is seriously ill.

Avoid the seafood!!!

We bought our weekly shop from the Kettering store, the tuna steak was clearly way beyond fresh. To be fair it's never happened before - but the best part of £5 for rotting fish is not a great deal! I think we'll return to one the more established supermarkets!

Poor Customer Service

I visited Aldi/Rainworth.
While rummaging round a very untidy cage of workwear on the special buys I cut my finger, blood dripping on the floor & running down my hand, I asked a member of staff to help me, she radioed for assistance to which no one came, she then disappeared & upon her return with 1 square of kitchen roll & a battered box of children’s cartoon plasters, she said we have no customer first aid box & didn’t know who the first aiders in store was as she was new.
Yes this was only a cut to my finger but the next accident to happen in that store may be serious.
The member of staff did all she could with the resources she had, not a pleasant experience for customer or your member of staff

I have been a loyal customer for 18…

I have been a loyal customer of the Workington branch for 18 years during which time I have unfortunately become severely disabled with mobility problems, a ruptured abdominal aorta, (meaning I should definitely not lift any reasonably heavy items), and had both biceps severely torn meaning that I can't lift my arms above chest height, I am 86 years old and also in a wheelchair. I take my shopping to the self service till as I can't lift the goods onto the belt at the normal till, and a member of staff assists me, however, today I was refused assistance and told that it was now company policy to no longer help anyone. I can only imagine that this is because Aldi is now sufficiently big enough that customer care is no longer required. I was about to tip my goods on the floor and leave when another customer offered to help me which he did whilst the "assistant" stood watching.
I know that my paltry 60 or 70 pounds a week means absolutely nothing to Aldi but I fear that I shall no longer use them which is a great shame to me as I have built up a nice relationship with some of the staff, most of which have always been extremely helpful.
I doubt whether I will even get a response to this as obviously it means nothing to those who run the organisation but it's a great shame and I am thoroughly disgusted with this attitude, although I will now save myself a twice weekly, 25 mile round trip, Hello Lidl.

First & last time using click & collect

First time using click and collect service at Mansfield (Oakleaf Close store) and definitely the last. Despite their website promoting that they pick fresh produce as if they were picking their own 75% of the produce was dated within 2 days of purchase including bread, chicken, ham plus many others. An email to customer service is a waste of time as all they tell you to do is take it back to the store for a refund, expecting me to make 2 journeys to the same shop, firstly to pick it up and then to take back the items that they picked, this on top of me paying £4.99 for the service !

Awful experience today

Awful experience today. Paid for click & collect for Christmas using my closest available service provider in Naas (3 aldi stores closer but none have C&C). Drove 25 mins there, collected shopping which I loaded, completely unaided by shop-delivery assistant (who stood & watched) into car, and then drove home. Got home to see sausages out of date today with 30% off stickers. 75% of the Christmas food out of date the day-after-tomorrow or the following day - all before Christmas. Rang helpline. Told me I must return items to store. Drove 25 minutes back. Store completely unapologetic. Friendly man walked me around replacing my poorly dated food for better dates which were CLEARLY IN STOCK & forgot to replace an item, which I discovered on reaching the car & had to go inside AGAIN to sort. No compensation for click & collect charges, nor for my travel expenses… barely an apology. Lesson learned unfortunately…If, like Aldi, you charge for click & collect, you should provide a good service. Appalling.

Dumping old food on click&collect customers

We have begun using Aldi Click & Collect but after today, I am hesitant to give them another try.

On their website they clearly state:

"Fresh produce promise: We pick the freshest products and pack them with care, just like you would."

and

"Best before dates. Our pickers are trained to choose the freshest option - just as you would if you were shopping in store."

However, nowhere on the website can you actually see how long the items you order for "Click&Collect" are supposed to be edible. That information simply is nowhere to be found.

Today's order contained mushrooms that expire tomorrow, however, they're brown, slimey, and only good for going straight in the bin. The broccoli expires tomorrow. The vacuum packed lamb (long life item) expires the day after tomorrow.

I called "customer service" which turns out to be a calling centre in the Phillipines! They could not answer a single question about freshness, nor how long one could expect the food was good before expiration. They couldn't issue a refund, only a voucher, which can be used in-store only, not online (and therefore not for Click & Collect orders), and the only means of getting a refund is to take the items to the store (40 mins drive away) and go into the store and talk to the store manager. Any refund is at the store manager's discretion.

First, we don't live near Aldi Click & Collect and don't go there everyday. It's a 40 minute drive each way. The refund is "at the discretion" of the store manager, meaning there is no consumer protection as the store manager can simply decide to not refund. Second, we use "click & collect" because we don't enter stores (vulnerability & covid), so basically we can't get a refund.

Aldi may be slightly cheaper than other stores, but when they dump old food on you like this and make it virtually impossible to get a refund for what is entirely their fault, it can turn very expensive indeed.

Disabled parking issues

Small issue to some but as a blue badge holder I find it really annoying that just anyone parks in the disabled bays by the store entrance. This is not a one off and happens all the time every day. I’m sure there’s nothing the store or staff will be able to do about it, however I’d still like to highlight this issue. The is aimed mainly at my local
Aldi at Thornbury, Bradford.

Aldi croissants. Quel dommage!

Aldi croissants used to be the nearest you could get to a genuine French croissant. It took us ages, trying different stores, before we found Aldi's brand which, I seem to remember, claimed to use French butter; clearly not any longer according to the packaging. What once was crunchy and flakey has now become stodgy and bread-like in the middle, lacking a real croissant's aerated texture. What a shame. I would have paid the extra cost had the recipe remained the same. Back to my search for another brand.

Aldi Almat Colour laundry powder clumps…

Aldi Almat Colour laundry powder clumps in the detergent drawer and doesn't make it into the wash.
This happened a few times, resulting in me rewashing the load.
The powder just doesn't clump, it forms a hard rock that can't even be crumbled between the fingers when you take it out of the drawer when the load has finished
I checked that it wasn't a blockage in the machine ( which is around 6 months old and cleaned regularly) and used an alternative detergent which dissolved with no problem at all and has done with comparable sized loads ever since.
I searched for similar experiences online and found them, dating back a fair few years too so it's a known issue.
I wouldn't recommend buying this product.
I've contacted Aldi about this who offered a refund if I had the receipt ( who keeps grocery receipts?) or a store manager could issue a receipt if I could provide enough information but ultimately, I don't fancy carting a box of opened laundry powder down to Aldi. I just won't buy Aldi laundry powder again
