This company refuses to close your…

This company refuses to close your account, even if nothing is owe, it wil then tell you you need to make a payment in order to close the account, that’s ridiculous. They will then keep charging your account after you asked them to close yours, even if they took your money for the payment they will not close the account, they will proceed to tell you you need make a payment and that game will continue. After that game let’s say you shut the card down you used ti pay them and ask again for the account to be closed, not only will they not close the account, they will say your missing payments and add report it to the credit agency. My score has gone down 75 points in the last 6 months over this because I refuse to make a payment, I asked the account be closed. They refuse to do so.

Hi Jacye, we're sorry but if your account has a balance on it then we're not able to close the account until that balance has been paid. Asking to close your account does not cancel the balance due on it. Please keep in mind your Grow Credit payment is for charges from the previous billing period. You are responsible for charges made to your card, so if you refuse to make a payment then that could negatively affect your credit.

DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT OR…

DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD INFORMATION!! This is the only company with a rigged website of BOTS you cannot deactivate or close account. I am LIVID and have spent hours trying to get this account closed after just opening account.
I want to sue these people for TRICKERY on not being able to easily close account. You can't do anything but use the service but no where to access and close account even after several emails.

I am doing a home loan that needs no extra activity so this account can be financially injurious when you can't GET RID OF THEM. I feel completely scammed and given the run around by BOTS. This company is absolute trash.

We're sorry if you had any trouble closing your account, for your security it's designed so that users can easily close accounts themselves in their account settings. Please keep in mind, closing a credit account does not remove it or payment history from your credit report.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

**STAY AWAY** this company it’s a joke, they are suppose to help you “Grow your Credit” and they were the very company who actually damaged my credit score. They illegally reported a 30days past due payment on my credit report which damaged it subsequently. Losing more than 50 points. My payment never got to be 30days past due and they will not help me since I had stopped the membership with them because the level of unprofessionalism was far too much. It took me about 4/5 months but eventually I managed to dispute against them and show them how ridiculous they had been with promising to grow my credit and then being the ones damaging it the most for no good reasons and against the law. Do not believe or trust them, they do not care about helping your credit score they only care about your money. The worst experience, worst costumer service and worst level of unprofessionalism. Do not fall for this company.

Grow Credit is a credit building tool that helps users with little or no credit to get credit for subscriptions payments which wouldn't be reported to the credit bureaus if they weren't paying with a credit card. We would not report a late payment with the intent to try to hurt somebody's credit. If you had any trouble making payments, it is always recommended to resolve that before closing an account. Closing a credit account does not remove the account or payment history from your credit report.

Predatory "loan" subscription company

I've been using Grow Credit for a couple of years now and apparently about four months ago, my auto-pay account was disconnected from Grow. Instead of contacting me like a decent company, they just let my loan default for months in a row. When my first payment was late, did I get an email or any other communication indicating such? NOPE. So I carried on thinking all was well because the subscriptions I had linked to it were still being paid. So now after four months of no payments, the only reason I know my loan has not been paid is because my credit score dropped by 100 points and my credit report showed that loan as being in default. Now they won't allow me to pay my balance to close my account because every time I log in to the site to try and pay it, I see a message that "statement generation is in progress" and I cannot make a payment until the statement is generated. Surely "statement generation" doesn't take two weeks while Grow Credit continues to ruin my credit.

Grow Credit is a predatory company, all to eager to screw over their subscribers and will ruin your credit far more than they'll build it.

Grow Credit is a credit building tool that helps users with little or no credit to get credit for subscriptions payments which wouldn't be reported to the credit bureaus if they weren't paying with a credit card. FICO scores are affected by a variety of factors.
Opening a new account can lower your average account length which could lower your score in the short term. We do still have to report late payments in order to be compliant with the credit bureaus. We don't know the details of your situation, but we'd be happy to look into it, please contact us at behappy@growcredit.com. Thank you.

If you pay your bills on time this is the best company to Grow your credit

I have been with Grow Credit for 2 years never had an issue with payments or anything, their service is straight forward, They offer autopay, which is the best way to make payments on time. I like to make sure my bills are paid on time. My credit score has significantly improved since I started with Grow, I was able to purchase a brand new car at a very low rate. THANK YOU GROW CREDIT!

We're sorry but we can't complete an account closure until the balance is paid in full. You are still responsible for charges made to your card prior to you request to close your account. Please be aware that paying a past due balance does not change missed payments that were already reported.

Do not use this service.

I’ve had the same issues everyone else has. My bank won’t link, and it does not have issues with Plaid on other services. I do not get any notification, through the app or email that my payment failed. I have to check and pay another way. I’ve tried both app and online and worked with customer service several times. They apologize and say it won’t happen again. Except it does. They’ve now reported a delinquency which was not due to me not paying, but their system not working. It’s incredibly frustrating because I don’t need to pay for these subscriptions via credit. I have plenty of ability to through other means but I wanted to grow my credit. Instead it’s been hurt several times and their advice to me today was to not close my account for fear of hurting my credit more and they would look into removing the delinquency. No apologies. No excuses even.

I had to cancel my subscription today

I had to cancel my subscription today. Grow credit didnt charge me a membership
fee In Dec. So January created a double payment. My credit line is only $50. I have made at least 12 payments on auto pay. So the debt to ratio had me at 50% utilization rate. And my score dropped. I can't do the mishaps of billing. It defeats the purpose of have an subscription. I'll stick to paying my own Netflix bill. Thanks but no thank grow credit. More like damage credit .

Because we report your annual limit, all of our plans are designed to naturally keep your credit utilization below 10%. Even if you use the whole monthly spending limit, a minor change within that monthly limit shouldn't affect your score dramatically, and as of this writing we've only reported payments through December so you shouldn't see that activity having an effect yet.

Cannot recommend it.

When it works it's good, but when it stops working it hurts your score. I had autopay setup. It stopped working and I was NOT notified. Credit score dropped 20-30 points. I set up autopay again. Somehow the app unlinked from my payment method. Credit score dropped 13 points. Now I'm wondering if this is on purpose. Every time my score has dropped this year has been because of growcredit. I cannot recommend it.

We're sorry if you had to re-link your bank again. Some banks may be more prone to issues with Plaid. You can also make recurring payments with a debit card instead of a linked bank account. If our system detects an issue we send a notice before your payment and we also let you know if your payment fails. You can retry your payment and you have until your next statement to make a payment before your account is reported late to the credit bureaus. Please reach out to us at behappy@growcredit.com once your account is paid and current, we would be happy to assist with a goodwill removal of your late payments.

autopay suddenly stops without notice and ruins your credit

I feel I’ve fallen victim to their mistakes and they can’t even so much as apologize. Due to them not not withdrawing their monthly fee for two month (set on autopay BTW) I have been dinged for late payments on my credit report. This has resulted in an over 70 point drop in my score.

When asked what happened, the man I was chatting with blamed me for the oversight. However, it’s only 10/mo and I setup autopay. So, obviously I didn’t notice when the payments stopped being withdrawn.

He also said they send emails when payments fail to go through or are late. I do not believe this, because I searched all of my emails and never once got anything from them during the two month window they’re claiming. I also didn’t receive any statements from them within this two months.

I fully believe there was an issue with their system and I am likely not the only one to experience this.

The rep was apathetic and fairly rude at best.

I will be cancelling my subscription and absolutely NOT recommending them to anyone.

Hello Jordan, We're sorry if you were having trouble making your payment. Your bank or Plaid may sometimes require you to reauthorize your bank account for payments. Unfortunately, we don't have any control over that. We try to notify you by email and in the app if there's an issue with your payment and you have until your next statement to successfully apply a payment before your account is reported late to the credit bureaus. If you send us a written request to behappy@growcredit.com, we would be happy to assist with a goodwill removal of your late payments.

Grow Credit's weird math has me scratching my head.

I had an account for a few months. Grow Credit advertises that they will report an "$1800" credit limit. However, they actually report a $150 loan, BUT they report it 12 times over the year...so they figure it adds up to $1800. I contacted them to close my account because paying $10 per month seemed steep for such misdirection. They offered to give me a "free" account instead. Not sure how they make money on a free account that reports a $17 loan, but it just seemed too sketchy for my tastes. Plus, credit bureaus are wise to this scam and lump these loans into the trash pile, which doesn't help anyway. If they go the distance, maybe I will give them another shot...AFTER they have established themselves.

Hi Christopher,
Your annual limit is reported to the credit bureaus along with your account balance and monthly transaction amount. The monthly transaction limit on the Accelerate plan is $150/month. The loan amount of $1,800 shown on your statement reflects your annual loan value (12 months x $150/month). Some third party credit monitoring services may not show your credit limit, but you would see that on your credit report from the credit bureaus. Grow Credit makes money through interchange fees on the free account and the plan fees on premium plans. The credit bureaus don't have a "trash pile", Grow Credit is a real line of credit that appears on your credit file the same as any other credit product, which is especially important for people who have thin or no credit.

If you have your Grow card linked to a food delivery service, please make sure that you are only using the card to pay for the monthly subscription cost of their premium plan rather than for food delivery itself. In order to prevent customers from accidentally charging individual purchases to their Grow card, we only allow one monthly transaction per subscription. If you made a food delivery purchase, you should contact the delivery company's customer service for any problems with that order.

Customer Service Does Not Care To Help

I signed up for Grow Credit and decided a few days later before the account was officially open, before I had agreed to open the account and use their card, I contacted them in app and email multiple times from July 5th to July 15th and I had to deal with the customer service representatives Melody and Kat, trying to get them to help me close my account. They flat out refused to help me, refused to even respond to my questions with anything other than telling me that I could log into the account when it is ready, ignoring that I told them that I want to close it and I don't approve of their terms. Essentially, they forced me to open it. I want Grow Credit to remove this unused account from my credit report that is only on it because Melody and Kat, through their refusal to assist customer, forced me to accept open the account so that I could close it, since Grow refuses to help. I have screenshots and transcripts of everything.

Hi Eric, If you had already been approved for a secured card and initiated a payment for a security deposit then your deposit can be refunded when your Build Secured account is closed. We're not able to stop a deposit payment once it's in progress, sorry. Unlike other credit cards, we don't do a hard credit check or report your account immediately when you open it, but we still have to report your account when you close it.

Pathetic and ridiculous company.

Pathetic and ridiculous company.

After some research I regret ever using this company for anything regarding credit.

Their autopay suddenly stops working and doesn't process my payments even though I've used their service for well over 6 months with on-time and payments going through everytime.

Out of nowhere I receive a negative mark on my report that I'm Delinquent. For a measly $15 I'm suddenly delinquent???

I have 5+ credit cards that I manage and have never had such an issue with payments or autopay, yet GrowCredit somehow manages to be the exemption. Truely a disgusting company that claims to grow your credit. Word of advise, do not use this company. There goes my Good Credit that I spent years working on.

Does not look out for the consumer- do not use ever!

Been a customer for over a year. The number one reason for the one star review: there is no customer support. The chat page or support bot page is blank. There are no email addresses or any known listed means for contact. The other reasons for my review: they never pay my subscriptions on time. They are always late and usually my subscription services would get turned off before grow credit FINALLY issued a payment. You have to be strategic and exact about setting up your account, which is a joke because as a new user you’re unaware of how terrible they are at timely payments. I missed a monthly payment, initiated a new one, and the payment is STILL pending- Which usually happens. You initiate a payment, it’s takes a week for the transaction to occur. Anyways, while my payment is still pending on the app, I just received a notification that the reported my payment as late to the credit bureaus. WHY would you report a late payment IF you are a credit building app? Why would you ever do the one thing that is most damaging to a consumer??? Now as I stare at my pending payment, and my credit score that just dropped 25pts thanks to grow credit, I will make it my mission to blast this company on every medium I can find. The lack of transparency and obvious hypocrisy in their mission vs operations, I highly recommend you stay far far away from Grow Credit. 11/08/21- I received the standard okie doke reply below. Again, Grow Credit pays way more attention to complaints and policing the voices of its customers than it does actually providing a baseline standard of good customer service and at least ONE prominent support email link. I forwarded the issue to the CFPB upon a closer look at the situation. Additionally, I noted that their “loan agreement” grants explicit consent to sell consumer account information to 4+ third party constituents in exchange for use of Grow Credit services. Again, here we are with a lack of transparency and a violation of the 2021 CA consumer privacy act. I’ll wait for proof that all consumers were given an opt out option….

Hi Lia, we're sorry if you have had trouble contacting us, we'd like to be able to help you resolve any issues if you can please contact us at behappy@growcredit.com.

Your Grow Credit card pays your subscriptions on their usual bill dates. Accounts are automatically suspended if a user misses their monthly repayment of their balance. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience caused by this. Your account should be automatically unsuspended when the repayment processes. ACH payments can take 3-5 days to clear.

In the event your payment is unsuccessful, we retry the payment twice following the original attempt. Grow Credit does not charge any penalties or fees, and you have at least until your next statement to successfully apply a payment before your account is reported late to the credit bureaus. If you have trouble making payments just let us know and we'd be happy to work with you to prevent or remove late payments from being reported.
