Here's some good info since other reviews are bunk
Looking for online reviews before making my first purchase, I stumbled upon exactly why the internet can be terrible. The internet is ruining people and taking away all manners and sense of honour and respect. Case in point: all the nonsensical negative reviews made by crusty people against this seller. People complaining about £6 for shipping? Thanks to Amazon for completely ruining people's expectations of the cost of doing business in the real world. Small companies are not huge corporations. We run a small business ourselves and we know that £6 (now £7 at the time when I ordered from Growling Tums) is absolutely nothing for a 12kg large box! Unbelievable anyone would leave that as a negative review. More like unjustified slander.
No, I am not affiliated with Growling Tums. I haven't dealt with their customer service, so I can't speak to their attitude. Maybe I would complain about that if they aren't nice and helpful. So time will tell on that front.
But as a small business owner, I found the reviews here unfair. So I ordered anyway. No, the shipping was not as fast as Amazon Prime. I'm adult enough to think ahead and re-order before my bag gets too low. We ordered at the holidays and had the parcel within 3 business days. Not bad if you ask me. I did not have any packaging issues.
On to the food review. First off, this is a private label food meaning the same exact food is sold by small boutiques under their own branding. Don't let that put you off. The manufacturer is GA Pet Food Manufacturers. So I looked into them. There's a lot to like. It's a family owned, UK based business (the manufacturers) who sell to private label (boutique brands like Growling Tums).
They have proprietary technology for extracting nutrition from foods so the dog food has more nutrition than others using other methods. Most importantly, they cook the food at a very low heat compared to standard commercial food. People don't know that heat blasted commercial dog food is carcinogenic. Dog food cooked at lower temperatures retains more nutrition and much lower risk of cancer. Big reason to buy.
They have foods at different price points. Their foods with grains look excellent compared to supermarket foods, especially with the low cook temperature method. But they also offer grain free.
Some of the foods are high protein content. My first order was for the Gourmet Venison boasting 50% real meat. We compared to Harrington's Super Foods which we had in the house, similar total protein content but Harrington's was bulking up the protein with legumes (not great for dogs) and had far less real meat.
Their Super Foods line looks great. The Buffalo or Bison one was incredibly high protein, but also much higher price point. I don't think my budget can handle it but I'd love to have my dogs on that one.
Researching this GA Pet Foods, I found that there are many brands selling their foods under their own "white label." But none that I found were selling it at a lower price than Growling Tums, most were selling £5-£15 higher.
All in all, I think they have very good food offerings suiting different needs. I prefer high meat content so I will stick with their offerings of 50% real meat. I also have large breeds and am interesting in large breed foods. I will wait until they add more large breed options and try that. I believe I did see added glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM to the ingredients on the large breed dog food, saving me from having to buy that separately and mixing in.
I do not know these people and receive no benefit from making this review. But I wanted to put something out with good information after the absolute codswallup I found trying to find any reviews before my purchase. Hopefully it helps people make an informed decision.
