Seven Months In....
Well , I had not picked up a guitar for 2 1/2 yrs . Now I have played everyday since I joined except one..I have picked up a lot of theory. I had been playing a lot of it but did not know why other than it worked. So I now understand how and why it works. I have really stepped up my game using all the essentials needed to sound more bluesy , ie..using those bends, vibrato, slides , string skipping, mixing Maj. and minor , adding arpeggios , learning 3 note chords and using them, double stops ect. I always had these but always failed to use them so skool has stepped up my game big time. Eric has been great for me. I still believe one on one is a good thing. I believe some students will not ask the needed questions with others listening , to shy, intimidated, whatever , I like having both. If I have a problem I have the time with Eric to work it out..I also hit as many classes as I can and open rooms. I learn alot there , but I will ask questions because I am not intimidated and I know the instructors like you to ask questions.. I believe in some form of practice everyday, I must do my part...
GZA: It's the real deal. Ain't nothing like it!
I've read online comments that describe Guitar Zoom Academy as just another source of guitar lessons. I'm here to tell you from personal experience that this is TOTALLY WRONG, and couldn't be further from the truth! GZA is a community of world-class instructors and students who come together each and every day to help one another become the best guitar players they can be. If you're a beginner, this is where you need to be. You're going to be treated with patience and respect and encouragement and you will learn to play the guitar at a level you never thought possible. If you're an advanced guitar player, this is where you come to kick your playing to a whole new gear. Every day there are choices for live classes where students can ask-and-receive individual instruction and answers. This is where you come to be encouraged, to be held accountable and to interact with some of the best human beings you can imagine. I am about 6 months into my first year with GZA and I've already learned more, and advanced more, than I ever thought possible. When this year is over, I already plan to re-up. I just wish I had found the Academy sooner. This is the real deal.
An effective, empathic and adaptive guitar learning experience
The Acedemy is 5/5 star, this is pushing me in the right direction. I've memorized quite a few songs in the past 3 to 4 years, many complex finger style classical and flamenco pieces with little concept of note recognition, chord construction and timing. Continuing in the Academy is helping me to put all of this together.
Secret Sauce: The GuitarZoom Community
I played guitar in high-school and rediscovered my passion for playing again after a decades long “break”. I made the decision to go it alone using online videos, self instruction guides, and an avalanche of materials. What I discovered after much frustration is that I was getting crushed with information, no real plan, and over-complication of my passion to just learn, play, and not overthink.
I connected with GuitarZoom in January. Speaking with Steve and the team, I realized that the instructors could help me simplify my approach, develop a plan that worked for my tastes and style, and collaborate on ideas for long-term development. What was different? Steve and the team asked me about my goals and challenges, and offered pathways to get there. It wasn’t a “here’s our practice material, now go use it.”
For my guitar development, this is the single most impactful decision I've ever made. The best part of GuitarZoom is the instructors and COMMUNITY. I’m connecting with students of all levels, many with the same challenges and desire to play. I’ve worked with Pete S. as a docent, and he continuously provides ideas on practice routines, skills development, and progression. This is a group of students and instructors that are experiencing, or have experienced the same challenges, all in a very supportive environment.
If you’re a beginner or experienced player, I recommend having a conversation with the staff and share your biggest challenges and goals. You won’t be disappointed.

Get serious about playing guitar, join GuitarZoom Academy
I joined GuitarZoom Academy (GZA) in January of 2025. Prior to joining GuitarZoom, I’ve spent the last 20 years watching YouTube videos and reading all sorts of materials in an attempt to become, at the very least, good at playing guitar. At one point I even attended music school courses at a well known institution in my town.
With no structured guidance, my progress was hap hazard at best.
GZA has changed all that. There are too many things that I like about GZA to mention here.
The instructors are the best I’ve ever encountered.
The online classes cover every aspect of becoming proficient at guitar, from the most basic to the most advanced.
The weekly meetings with my advisor keep me moving forward and prevent me from falling back into old habits.
The best part of GZA is the ongoing support you get from every single staff member. Whether you’ve met them before or not, each staff member takes the time to help you conquer any aspect of guitar playing you are having difficulty with.
Summing it all up, if you want to get serious about playing the guitar and are willing to dedicate the time and effort needed, GuitarZoom Academy is the place to be.
Great education and business model
Great education and business model! The instructors are skilled players and very kind people. They keep the right amount of pressure to make sure you get the most out of your investment without being too pushy. Most guitar players that are looking to take it to the next level also have busy lives and it's so easy to fall out of practice. The guitar zoom staff do a great job encouraging their students to make the most out of their investment. Viktor has been especially helpful!
Regardless of your skill level, guitar zoom academy will meet you where you're at and work with you to get you to whatever level you are wanting to go! Highly recommend!
If you're serious about improvement, this is the guitar program for you
I've noticed a huge improvement in my confidence on the guitar. It's a lifelong journey, but I've learned so much in the past several months that I haven't learned on my own in the past 15 years. My 1:1 instructor is a great teacher, and I pick up something new whenever I join one of the group daily classes. I highly recommend GuitarZoom to anyone looking to make big improvements in their guitar playing. One note: this requires a commitment on your end, but the accountability my instructor provides is what I need to ensure my growth. Thank you GuitarZoom!
Why I chose Guitar zoom and the reason it is a good choice to make.
The video courses are great and even fun to watch, but having a personal instructor is fantastic. They help set my goals and show me the path I should take for my daily practices and I can tell that I've improved a lot more that I would have practicing myself. Getting professional advice is golden. There's probably hundreds of people that can play the guitar, but teaching is another thing. The instructors are great at Guitar zoom. They give you accurate advice and keep you motivated. One of the reasons I chose Guitar zoom is when I saw Steve's video on youtube, he said "stay positive and keep practicing". It may be just a simple line, but it meant a lot to me. Honestly I always look forward to the online lesson every week.
Beginner guitarists appreciate learning from others
I have been a GuitarZoom customer for several years. As a beginner guitarist, I recognized Steve Stine has an awesome ability to make the vast world of musical information understandable through gradual steps and the importance of a solid foundation. GZ has a vast selection of interesting and informative training videos for every level of guitarist. I began learning guitar on my own with a mountain of books and internet information I had a difficult time figuring out how to make progress because I lacked structure in creating a learning plan. Fortunately GZ introduced The Academy where I was given a personal instructor and an entire team of professionals for guidance on my guitar journey. There is so much more to gain from a musical community than from trying to learn alone. The Academy shares music, learning and community.
Guitar Zoom Academy
Steve and Dan run a great operation and my direct instructor Eric Beaty has been extremely helpful, encouraging and always available.
I have been with GZA for 3 months and have learned to love, work and enjoy playing the guitar again after a few years break.
The fire is burning again and I am very greatful for GZA and their whole community for leading the way for me.
Guitar Zoom Academy Review
#guitarzoom
I’ve attended a few music and guitar academies over the years, and I can confidently say that Guitar Zoom Academy stands out as one of the premier online learning environments for musicians.
What really impressed me was the initial deployment of the Skool platform—the team executed it with clarity and professionalism. It was thoughtfully designed and made the whole experience feel fresh and modern.
I really appreciate the flexibility students have to engage with instructors, particularly through the Open Sessions. It’s a powerful feature that gives learners access to feedback and guidance in real-time, which is rare and incredibly valuable in online music education.
The community is strong and welcoming. While not everyone actively engages (which is understandable for various reasons), the support system is there for those who want to make the most of it.
Lastly, the depth and quality of the content is exceptional. There’s a massive archive built over the years, and it’s incredibly helpful when Steve updates or revisits material—it keeps the content alive and relevant.
Highly recommend Guitar Zoom Academy to anyone serious about improving their musicianship.
Love the Guitar Zoom experience
I'm writing to share my overwhelmingly positive experience with Guitar Zoom. It's truly transformed my approach to learning guitar, and I wanted to detail why I believe it's unlike any other platform available.
Initially, I knew virtually nothing about music theory or playing the guitar. Guitar Zoom's comprehensive approach, however, has been nothing short of revolutionary. The access to a diverse network of highly skilled instructors, including the company owners themselves, is unparalleled. I'm consistently impressed by their availability; while we all need sleep, the flexibility to connect with an instructor at various times significantly improves my learning experience.
Beyond the individual instruction, the depth of the video library is astounding. It’s not just a collection of videos; it's a meticulously curated resource offering an in-depth understanding of every aspect of guitar playing, from fundamental techniques to advanced theory. My weekly Zoom sessions are far more than simple check-ins. Each hour-long session is a collaborative session. We review the previous week’s progress, identify areas for improvement, and strategically plan the upcoming week’s learning goals. This personalized approach, tailored to my strengths and weaknesses, is what truly sets Guitar Zoom apart.
But the benefits extend beyond the technical aspects. My instructor, Juan, has become a true mentor and friend. He’s taken a genuine interest in my life, going beyond the music lessons to engage with my family and even offer words of encouragement to my teenagers. This level of personal connection is incredibly rare and speaks volumes about the culture Guitar Zoom has cultivated. The global reach of the instructors further enhances the experience, offering flexibility and access to a wealth of diverse perspectives.
It’s impossible to overstate my enthusiasm for Guitar Zoom. It’s not just a learning platform; it's a supportive community fostering connections and shared musical passions. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to learn guitar, regardless of their experience level. The opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with like-minded individuals across the globe is truly invaluable.

A truly gifted teacher
Steve is an amazing instructor. His ability to break things down and make things understandable is incredible. To me he is one of the most gifted and passionate teachers I’ve had the opportunity to learn from.
Very thorough explanations on theory
I began following guitarzoom om youtube during the pandemic. I have been a rhythm guitarists at that point for 31yrs. I took my spare time during the lock downs to improve my lead playing. Steve had a couple videos on theory that were really helpful. There are a ton of others out there, but Steve's thorough explanation set it apart from those others!!
