Only giving one star because I have to! I am so disgruntled with the dishonest email promotions of free shipping with discount codes that never work. Since this is an order I usually make once a year... See more

Didn't search reviews because this company had been in business forever...
I thought I was ordering good onion plants and high quality seed potatoes. Not happy altho I did get my order on time. Some of the seed potatoes are tiny and shriveled looking and I don't see any chitting on them. I can't believe how small and thin and half dried the onion plants are. Won't be ordering from them anymore. I recognized the name and thought they had good products.
Slow service
I placed my order in January. I still don't have my seeds at the end of March. I understand the few plants..but the seeds! I wanted to get a lot started. I have ordered from them for years. Done now. I have a ship Date of April 15th,supposedly.
Not Shipped
I placed an order using homedepot.com and part of the order was shipped from Gurneys. It never shipped and I missed my chance to plant.
Ordered garden seeds and sunflowers…
Ordered garden seeds and sunflowers from them and waited for 20 days and nothing delivered. Reached out and they said...Don;t worry it is scheduled to be shipped in another 2 weeks.
Have ordered from them on and off for decades but this is disappointing to take 5 weeks to ship seeds. Have to reconsider use of them in the future and then seeing these other reviews... OUCH
Order came MUCH too early and say outside in extreme cold.
I placed an order and the website was very specific that my items would not ship until (3/27) after the risk of frost.
My items all got here in the beginning of March, while I was not home, and sat outside in 5 degree weather and 40 mph winds for the week.
Go to the website and it still says nothing should be shipped until the 27th. I call customer service and all she could do was read from a script. When I repeated myself because her script wasn't a solution to my problem she began saying things like "Oh my god!!!!"
But was very clear, that even though it was their fault for shipping early, there was nothing they can do.
Unhappy
Company used to be top notch. I have been ordering from them for years. Now I get dead plant and zero customer service. I thought it was a one time deal the first time I had an issue but 3 in a row is enough for me. I will no longer spend my money here.
Gurneys cannot be trusted
Gurneys cannot be trusted. Orders have not been received even though numerous calls where placed and I was assured my purchase would be delivered. I have been struggling to get my products or cancel the order. They just lie, lie lie! DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM!
Once a legit company
Once a legit company, they have been bought out and now have a different business model. Now when you order, you now get mostly dead plants shipped at different times along with invoices for more money. Not sure how they can legally get away with magically charging more money for something you already ordered and pay for, but it's obvious the customer is something to squeeze money from and nothing more.
Gurney’s used to be a “go to” garden…
Gurney’s used to be a “go to” garden company for me. It had been several years since ordering from them when I lived in the Midwest. This year I decided to plant an asparagus bed and ordered several newer varieties they offered. It was a very frustrating and disappointing experience after placing the order early last fall.
Between the initial, and very inferior in quality, first variety sent, and the subsequent continued back order notices regarding the other variety ordered; it became obvious they were no longer a reliable garden supply company.
Upon canceling the remaining constantly back ordered items, the best they could do was issue a partial “catalog credit voucher” instead of a full refund.
Their customer service department is very poor and must be outsourced to a foreign country.
I cannot recommend doing business with what used to be a quite reliable mail order nursery company.
Definitely a scam
Looks like I’m not the first to fall for this scam operation.
Customer service is worse than useless. Called multiple times with promises of “putting a rush on the order” that did absolutely nothing. Was strung along for months with “backorders” even when plants showed in-stock, ultimately majority of the order ended up cancelled, except for the Meyer lemon that arrived so poorly packaged it was a twig with two leaves and about 20 leaves loose in the box.
Now a year behind on planting, and it’s too late in the season to do anything this year… positively furious.
I HATE THIS COMPANY !!
If you are looking to wait 5 months for a dead, dried-up, moldy stick to arrive in the mail, then this is the company for you!
I ordered in January and was only sent a plant in the mail at the very end of May. It has failed to show any signs of life in one month's time.
Another plant they sent in April only had the rootstock grow, so it will never produce any fruit. I've wasted so much time caring for this plant looking for any sign the scion graft would grow.
Gurneys has been good up until they…
Gurneys has been good up until they hired Customer service from India. They are very rude, leave you on the phone on hold for 10 minutes or more and not come back. I took my money from gurneys and will no longer do business with gurneys again. I will tell everybody that I know about this issue cop. Very rude customer service.
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Ordered two Chestnut "TREES" in March 2022. 3 Months later, I get two small STICKS in plastic bags filled with completely dried out straw packaging. Absolutely no branches and barely any micro-roots. If these things survive in my potting, it will be three YEARS before I can transplant. Called Customer Service which is offshored to (best guess) Pakistan. NO RETURNS and asked to speak to supervisor, phone dropped on table and 10 minutes later, nothing but coughing and hacking.
What a waste
What a waste. First off the plants did not arrive when stated. I received half the order 2 months late and all but 1 were completely dead. Horrible customer service. Better off going to Walmart.
I had 20 out of 70 strawberries germinate. Then the customer service decided that a refund was not in Gurneys interest! Only credit is offered! what a scam! They put dead crap on sale NO REFUNDS!
I had 20 out of 70 strawberries germinate and then customer service wanted to just give me a pro-rated "credit" as they DO NOT stand behind their products!
They just
Run don’t walk away from Gurneys unless…
Run don’t walk away from Gurneys unless you like paying for dead plants. Then after you complain you receive another order of really dead dried out plants.
Promotional scammers
Worst company ever. Do not. I repeat- Do not fall for the scam of order 100$ worth and get 20$ off your order. Or order 200$ worth and get 100$ off.
It’s a scam.
This is how they operate. You will order for specific amount and they will ship you a partial order. And then for the remaining of the order they will be back ordered or cancel your order that will bring your total amount down and you will lose whatever promotion is going on.
So for instance on my latest order I had $46.93 remaining partial order and they just canceled my order and refund me $11.09 because now I’m no longer qualify for the promotion that was going on.
And this is the second time it happening to me.
Non existent-customer service
After seeing some of the horror story-plants some people recieved I feel lucky to have had good fortune with quality. My problem is with their customer service. They pushed my back orders back over a month two times without notice (one of them was listed as available on their website the day after they did this). I submitted three customer service orders. The first of which clearly stating my name, problems, order number, etc. they did not reply to one customer service order. Run like the wind from this company!!!
Plants arrived DEAD
Ordered 3 Majoram herb plants, they arrived today 5/10/22 all dead. Don't order anything from this company, I should have known better, but it is hard to find this herb. Wish I could include the picture of what $20.00 gets you from this company.
Don't buy from them.
I ordered plants that I was told were in stock and to be delivered within 2 weeks. Never happened! Repeatily I got the run around, always an excuse, 4 weeks later, more excuses. This happened on multiple orders. Solution, DON'T BUY FROM GURNEY'S.
