Deliver different damaged sofa and then…

Deliver different damaged sofa and then refuse to respond despite continual chasing

I ordered from Handmade Chesterfields.
1. The sofa took longer to arrive than stated, (around 4 weeks longer)
2. When the sofa arrived it was damaged
3. The sofa delivered was not the chesterfield I selected or wanted.

I have emailed the firm continuously and they have simply taken to ignoring me after initially saying they sent an invoice with the incorrect sofa to my colleague (the sofa was for me not my colleague) All of my emails requested a chesterfield and I was not send a Chesterfield. The have multiple review sites, one of which has awful reviews where customers have suffered similar situations of being ignored. I have asked for an exchange sofa and I am ignored over and over again since their initial response. I have now reported them to trading standards and have asked for a refund. My next stop will be the small claims court.

On balance I'd pass over this company - Why?

Ok this company has got some terrible reviews and I would suggest if you are considering using them simply don't. It's right I qualify this. Firstly my experience. They offered the perfect match for what I wanted. I put off ordering and ended up paying £100 more only to find the price dropped again later. That's the way it goes! I asked for some samples which came and they requested I return them when I'd finished with them. This raised some suspicion. However I carried on with the purchase using a credit card as a safety net and one I'd recommend for any on-line purchase. The sofa took 6 months to arrive twice as long as advertised. Not as bad as some but bad enough. They never communicated with me in deed their on line order system stated our sofa was delivered so I had to chase them. Clearly they were getting stressed as one email was quite terse in its tone. I stuck with it and they explained that there was a supply issue with some products which was common across the industry. I looked into that and they were correct. So I've stuck with it. Eventually after 36 weeks it arrived. It's not as soft to sit on as I'd hoped and whilst the size is the same as specified the back cushions are over filled and will take some waring in. The leather I have to say is incredibly good. Thick and even. The seats are foam with fiber wrap. Still a bit too firm for my liking but this was bought remotely so take from that what you will. So all in all Not quite the standard in comfort and finish I'd hoped, the materials are very good (up to now - two months) the long wait seemed justified in that other companies like John Lewis were experiencing delays but the customer service is dire, although screws for the sofa feet were missing and they did send spares within two weeks. The back cushions are quite deep and this narrows the seat space, but I am guessing that the whole thing might last many years and with that time the leather age and the seats give, and comfort improve, in which case it will make the investment a good one. The firmness of the seating is likely to be like anything of quality made to resist wear and I look forwards to many years of comfort. The leather and finish seem to be fine where as many other leather sofas from reputable companies suffer bad reviews from leather stretching and seats sagging in very short time frames.
What then would I advise. I'm afraid I'd say be very cautious about using this company but if you do be prepared for very poor customer service and be sure you know what you are getting. Buy with credit card to be safe. I don't see this company lasting, simply because they do not have a clue about customer service and this will deter many. I am sure the sofas are made by an independent company making for many outlets so the product will be the same elsewhere but I think you will pay more for much the same thing but with better service and offering more confidence. Would I buy again???? Thought about it but unlikely, I'll buy my next two sofas from Collin and Hayes.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!
If you dont mind waiting over a YEAR for your sofa to be delivered and when it turns up its hard uncomfortable and unusable, then use this company!
we spent over a year waiting for 2 Chesterfields, when you do manage to get through to someone they are very rude and blunt and after telling us the sofas would be delivered in 2 weeks on several occasions, its easy to loose faith and think you have been scammed. Anyway just after 1 year of placing the order they did arrive, and they are hard and unusable, so a complete waste of time and money. I would highly recommend you avoid this company.

Damaged chairs never replaced

I ordered 4 chairs and two armchairs, and two of the chairs arrived marked and scratched.
David promised to replace them when the new stock is in, but he never did and now ignores my messages. Frustrating experience and I had no choice left but to get someone to fix the chairs and tell everyone to avoid these people!

Delay after delay , excuses, extremely poor customer service, AVOID at all costs

I ordered my sofa in November 2021, it finally arrive 11 months later !!!! after 2 failed delivery attempts. Communication/customer service was extremely poor throughout, many excuses given as to why there was a delay. The sofa was very uncomfortable but was hoping after some use it would improve, unfortunately it did not so after 6 weeks I asked for some advice and was told because I had not informed them within the month and I had sat on the sofa ( not sure what you are supposed to do with a sofa if you are not meant to sit on it !!!!) that all they could offer was replacement seat inserts at a further cost of £295. I informed that the sofa was not fit for purpose , the tone of the communication then became very defensive, having to wait for long periods without a reply. After spending the amount of money I had on a sofa, waiting nearly a year, shocking customer service I was not prepared to hand over any more money so found a reputable company who fixed the problem in no time at very little cost. My advice to anyone considering using this company is to avoid at all costs and read the other reviews on this site.

Extremely bad service

wish we'd read the reviews before ordering. we placed an order in Oct 2021 and paid 50% deposit with a possible delivery date of Dec 2021 but definitely by mid Feb 2022. Mid Feb we contacted them and after several emails they finally replied saying there was an issue with their springs supplier and will be in touch with a delivery date ASAP. End of March still no update so we re-contacted them and again they replied saying there was an issue with their springs supplier and delivery likely to be of April. We have emailed several times since, requesting the order be cancelled and to give us a refund - as expected we have had no reply, no money and no sign of our sofa

I almost fell for it…

I was about to buy 2 sofas from Handmade Chesterfields when I decided to check Trustpilot. I’m so glad I did. Their Companies House records look flakey, their address in Coventry is a corporate services business. When I asked them to explain I got…
“If you are uncomfortable about ordering from us, it is better that we leave it here.
We are UK based manufacturer, and thankfully we have enough orders as it is.
This is not a good start of any working relationship, so advise you order from someone you are comfortable with.”

I shall be taking that last piece of advice!

Threatens legal action over bad reviews

The abuse I’ve had off this company all copied into trading standards in the last two days is shocking! Threatening legal action for abuse over reviews being left and claiming she has been threatened when it’s all I. Black and white proving she hasn’t! I called the police myself and told them everything who told me I did nothing wrong by responding to her emails of threats and abuse to correct all the lies and that I am allowed to leave a review and not responsible for anyone else who sees fit! I assured her I will post these publically to show people what they are dealing with and if you look a few reviews down you will see someone else has derogatory emails uncalled for sent to them as well so this isn’t the first! Trying to pass the buck and tell me I should take some responsibility for what went wrong when trading standards told them I haven’t done wrong the police confirmed I’ve done no wrong and her attitude is absolutely stinking! Telling me to grow up and stop playing the victim and claiming she’s pregnant and shouldn’t be chasing me for a refund she promised me trading standards put her straight on that one! She just simply doesn’t like people sticking up for themselves and expects people to tolerate her condescending attitude and threats well I guess you realised today that will not be tolerated at all! And never should be! She’s an absolute embarrassment! If I could attach everything here as well as proof belive you me I would but hopefully you will see it in the local news online as I never want another person to be subjected to this! The emails will be picked up from trading standards on their return on 29th and they will be shocked by what was said and threatened! They will also be contacting their local trading standards team to check if anyone else has been subjected to this treatment and I shall show them the review for their down from another email sent from this company speaking out of turn totally uncalled for! They won’t have a leg to stand on I’m covered under consumer acts right and done nothing but defend myself with truth and facts and respond to childish emails and expose the type of people you really and are and how you run business so unethically and unprofessionally! I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t read reviews and takes the risk of dealing with these abnoxious individuals! Being pregnant does not and never will excuse speaking to people like crap The only person playing the victim was you you narcissistic fool claimining I threatened you when all that came from you! Projection at its finest! The police and trading standards are on my side on this one so if that doesn’t speak volumes about the desperation oozing through her patronising emails of defeat I don’t know what is! Allowing your ego to get the better of you today must have been totally worth it! Refund finally received after the abuse and having trading standards to push for it and put them straight before she tried claiming I lied saying I had not had it well that was true on my review yesterday wasn’t it! This facility is to be used to let people know what this company is like and if you don’t appreciate bad reviews then I suggest you get your act together and start treating and speaking to people properly and honouring the contract and sale of agreement as your terms clearly state before making any excuse you can to not accept any liability or responsibility! Shame on you! What a fool you made of yourself today! She even tried to threaten to email my neighbour and cause trouble between us I mean who does that?! She doesn’t sound mentally stable to be honest and that is a fair opinion based on today’s emails which I really wish you could all see I may even copy and paste them and put them up for you all to see you will be absolutely gobsmacked! I can even post the emails from trading standards correcting their claims as well! It’s a long thread! I would love my chance to stand up in court and show everything against you so don’t threaten me with a chance to expose you further! Absolute muppet of a human being! Trying to scare and bully people into not having a voice certainly won’t work with me! This is my story to tell and I’m entitled to tell it! I just hope anyone else who will find themselves in this position in the future also feels confident enough to stand up for what is right and defend your corner and call them out with the truth facts and evidence of all the excuses they try to throw at you! But you will need to get trading standards involved first as they will ignore you for as long as they can first which is what they did to me which I also had proof of them admitting in emails to trading standards! Please use a respectful honourable company if you want a decent service and sofa as I promise you dealing with these people you will only get the complete opposite! This business owner using the excuse…

This business owner using the excuse I'm Pregnant I don't need the hassle. What a cotton wool hugger I've lost 3 children all sexable as boys... Yet I have NEVER EVER spoken to someone with such disrespectful attitude. Even 2 days after my 1st loss when a new born boy was crying his eyes out in sight. It hurt but that's my personal issue it's not down to someone who is in this case a customer to deal with your "HORMAL ATTITUDE AS IT DOESN'T WASH WITH SOME... ALSO YOU HAVE HAD MY NEIGHBOURS BANK DETAILS OVER A YEAR WHY NOT PROCESS HER REFUND LIKE TRADING STANDARDS SAY YOU SHOULD.... oh no almost 98 grand in debt you won't, I forgot that bit sly sly

AVOID AT ALL COASTS!!!!!!

I inquired for a sofa with thins company as me and my friend was due to buy one and they were replying to me and ignoring my friends multiple emails chasing up a sofa that she bought nearly a year ago. Seeing how they treated her I decided to stay clear of this company especially when they have messed her around with a refund also and looking at all these different reviews I hope no one buys from them ever again there scum.

You’ve ripped me off no sofa or money and yet your still ignoring my emails. Your nothing but a scamming company. All your reviews are bullsht. I will never buy anything off you again. Your customer service is crap and your VERY IGNORANT. I’ll just sit on the floor while your on a comfy sofa. Your company is rubbish

Big delay,very poor customer service

Waited 7 months for my sofa i showed patience and tolerance because of lockdown and sat on garden furniture the whole time whilst waiting. Sofa arrived with damage and no instructions on how to operate sofa bed. I wanted someone to come and repair the damage, the company point blank refused and offered a measly £60 off a £1200 sofa. After the respect and patience i showed this company after waiting so long i am bitterly disappointed with their response back to me.

delay after delay. Constantly having to chase them and just get constant delays and excuses. They never contact you to tel them. Ordered beginning of January. Told May delivery then June July now August!! Shocking customer service.
