We are an arts-based lead foundry specialising in the design and manufacture of solid lead planters, lead cisterns and lead window boxes. We carry out all of the foundry tasks in-house, from design and pattern making, to casting, fabrication and fettling. Although most of the ornamental leadwork is largely inspired by original eighteenth and nineteenth century patterns, there is a strong leaning towards the works of the Arts & Crafts Movement founded by William Morris. The core characteristics of the Arts and Crafts movement are a belief in craftsmanship which stresses the inherent beauty of the material, the importance of nature as inspiration, and the value of simplicity, utility, and beauty. As each lead planter is sand-cast in the traditional method, we believe that there is an appreciation of the lost crafts of the pre-Industrial age, where signs of handiwork, flaws and imperfections were welcomed as indicators of individualism. All lead planters and lead cisterns are made to order, so there will be a lead-time on most orders. If you can’t find the exact design, size or shape that you are after, we are more than happy to take commissions to create new designs to suit your needs.

Having identified a "Dog Roses" cistern online, I called Glyn and confirmed the manufacturing time-frame & cost to deliver to Northern Ireland.
Glyn was most helpful and having a agreed a price for delivery, I paid for the product.
During the production stage I received two emails showing my cistern as it was being made.
Delivery was as scheduled and was extremely well boxed.
The cistern is an amazing work of art and a credit to Glyn and his team.

We ordered two Arts and Crafts lead planters and HLP agreed a convenient delivery date. When they arrived we were so keen to see them but first had to disassemble the substantial wooden structure they were shipped in. We have never received anything quite so well packaged. Once we had unscrewed the timber structure that secured them in their lined pallet based box, we positioned them on our patio and popped two hanging baskets in the planters just to see how they looked. They are wonderful and a perfect addition to our garden. We love the Dog Roses design and especially how the leaves climbing over the lip were crafted. They will no doubt look even better when planted up properly and best of all they will last decades and be ageing gracefully when most of our other planters will be chipped, split by roots or frost and on landfill sites. They are beautiful works of art that delight us every time we look at them,
