Their in-depth knowledge of the complexities involved in off-plan purchases was truly impressive and cannot be compared with commercialized firms who dont truly represent the buyer. They meticulously reviewed contracts, negotiated terms on our behalf, and kept us informed every step of the way. Over 2 years to deal with and conclude my late father-in-laws Estate for which I was co-executor. HC also acted as an Executor and at the initial meeting I was assured that it was all straightforward and would take 4-6 months as it was a simple Estate.
HC proceeded to make it a long, drawn out complicated process with delays, repeat requests for the same information, numerous errors and poor communication throughout. And all the time the bill keeps clocking up.
Their in-house complaints procedure is frustrating to deal with. But with perseverance the total paid was successfully reduced to somewhere near the initial estimate.
And all this compounds the impact on the loss of a loved one
and the grieving process.

It is our opinion that Herrington Carmichael do not take informal or formal complaints at all seriously (& so, we’ve chosen to finally walk away rather than exhaust their full complaints procedure, because of the immense toll on us). Whilst it’s very saddening to see many others have similar experiences, it reaffirms to us it’s not just us & we are most certainly not unreasonable in our expectations.

Personally, we would avoid this company at all costs. FYI, my wife was a Residuary Beneficiary, rather than a direct client. I was acting as her nominated contact.

I used HC Law for two conveyancing instructions. I would not use them again and would not recommend their services.

Do not use them for your estate it has been a complete farce, still waiting two years plus for a very simple estate to be settled. If I was to tell you all the faults I would be here for ages

My solicitor was very clear and helpful, explained where we were and the issues - in English - to me at all times
They are not the cheapest but is Legal Advice really where you want to scrimp?

I have just completed a new build property purchase, although the porting of my lifetime mortgage was faced with totally unprofessional service from a third party, Herrington Carmichael have probably been the best solicitors I have instructed to date, Roisin is a role model conveyancer and lifetime mortgage transfer specialist, she is personable, courteous & professional and always had my best interest at heart, at last I have moved in to my new home but I will never forget how helpful and understanding all at Herrington Carmichael have been, Many Thanks.

Absolutely devastating experience with this firm. We had to withdraw totally from this car production line style of conveyancing. The incompetence, disrespect and lack of communication was staggering, considering the grave importance of buying and selling property.

They used money sent on account for our deposit to pay their costs without permission. We had to ask for a final account to ascertain this. Sharp practice indeed.

We would be making a formal complaint, but this nightmare has taken such a toll on us, that we can't stand any further dealings with this shower. Don't make the same mistake.

Used this firm a year ago and had a good experience with the new build team. Even though the sale fell through it was further down chain so went back when we resold this year. Our sale was with the same solicitor as previously and she was still good. However, our purchase was put onto someone else and she was awful. The most risk adverse person I’ve ever met in my life. Advised us to pull out of our purchase a few days off exchange, which we did, then later found out our lender would still have been happy to lend on said property. We subsequently found another house and were very clear on the dates we needed to be in by. She found issue after issue and kept making comments like ‘most people would have pulled out by now’. We did get the sale and purchase through albeit 19 days after we had wanted. Then, they transfer us the wrong funds. We paid for same day transfer of our funds left over from our sale. We did not receive these on completion day and had to chase them. The funds, once received, were short. Again we had to chase for them. We were told ‘we’re only human, mistakes happen’! All very well but then they tell us we have to wait until they manage to retrieve funds from the other side and then wait a further 3 days to receive them, even though we paid for same day transfer. This should not be the case and they should be transferring the correct funds and dealing with their mistake independently. We had to make a complaint and the head of residential conveyancing agreed and promised to sort this out. I am yet to receive them. I will never use them again.

Very happy with the services I had received from Anna Svensson, despite having an awful auction experience which turnout to be my fault. Anna picked up my case without judgement and professionally dealt with my matters, very responsive when needed and professional enough to guide me to the right team as and when.

If I could give 1 star I would....Extremely sharp practicing and commercial approach....charging £1200 for a meeting that took 30 mins....very sharp practice and now taking me to court after I paid the firm over £7000 already....be very careful choosing this firm

Holds onto paperwork for weeks. Delayed our moving date. Uses Covid as an excuse, when we all manage well with it now. Never use them again ever
