SRMA masterclass

Positive- well organised with prompt responses when reaching out for support. material available online
Negative-as others have mentioned, be wary to take this course on if having other commitments such as exams / busy work roster, as it is very hard to find time to complete the reading/homework in the timescale required by them when doing on-calls and working weekends!

Feedback at the end of 5 weeks

It is a structured course aiming to provide information to participants across different backgrounds on how to do a systematic review and meta analysis. The contents are of high quality, and there is always chance to revisit the course materials in a dropbox folder.

However, it is quite frustrating that participants are only given a few days to complete the Facebook exercises, and if not done by Thursday, there will be no feedback at all. This is very difficult for people with commitments such as busy on calls at work spanning >12 hours during that period of time. Reading other people's work and comments are helpful but certainly less so compared to having your own feedback on your work.

It is also quite difficult to grasp the content conveyed across being someone new to the course. However, the High Yield Team is always available to answer your questions over email. I also personally think that the course fees are a bit high especially for students or junior doctors, as someone who are just starting off with no basic knowledge. I think that I grasped around 50% of the content of each lesson but much more work on my own will be required to fully understand it.

I am also trying to start my own project by the end of the 5 weeks, which so far I have been struggling to find a supervisor. I am hoping to obtain some help from the High Yield Team with regards to my topic of interest.

Thank you for your review and for your kind words. Regarding the Facebook exercises, we appreciate the busy schedules of students, but in the past the Thursday deadline has worked well for two reasons - 1) Accountability - it helps ensure students actually complete the assessment and 2) it gives enough time for our mentors to properly evaluate the students' responses and reply with good feedback which students have time to reflect upon and learn from before the subsequent session on Sunday.

We appreciate that conducting a SRMA is not easy, hence partly the reason the course was designed to help beginners learn step by step how to conduct a SRMA. Some of the concepts are naturally challenging (especially as a beginner), but for this reason, the course is spread over a 5-week period so you have time in between sessions to re-watch the videos and read the additional resources uploaded to the Dropbox folder (e.g. papers/notes). As Dr Khajuria mentioned during the classes, the students who derive the maximum benefit from the course are those who engage with the exercises and go through the videos and resources in between the sessions.

With regards to the project, you mentioned during the live class that you had a project idea that you were interested in exploring with one of the specialists at your own institution, and that we would support you as best we can. If you are facing difficulties, please email us so that we can address and help you.

We wish you the best and look forward to seeing your future published work, utilising the skills and knowledge from the course.

SRMA Course

The course is ideal for those who want a step by step guide for systematic reviews and those who are new to the concept of systematic reviews and meta analysis. The course materials are of high quality and clear instructions are given for the post session assignments.
The sessions start on time but they can often overrun which is a bit of a shame on Sundays. Overall, definitely recommend for those who want to start learning more about Systematic reviews.

Thank you for the review and for your kind words! We take on board your feedback regarding overrunning on few occasions - we want to ensure that all student queries are answered and they leave the sessions feeling satisfied that no questions have been left unanswered, but we will bear the timing in mind for future sessions, thank you and all the best!

Amazing course!

Amazing course! Loved the fact that it wasn't just informing about how to get a systematic review published, but how to carry it out so that it is thorough, highly cited and hence more effective in informing the scientific consensus. Really enjoyed the Q&A at the end of every session to ensure our projects were going well.

Good course, but not in a good timing

This course gives me confident in making systematic review. The tutors are very experienced. Unfortunately, I was doing this course in the middle of final exams. Thus, it was difficult for me to keep up with the homework. But, I hope I can catch up with the videos. For future improvements, I hope you can accommodate the participants with common interests and the tutors to collaborate together. Thank you

Very informative!

Having no experience in systematic reviews, these sessions were very helpful and informative in explaining the different elements of conducting a systematic review. We were given exercises to put our learning into practice and were also provided with recordings of the sessions so that we can go through the material in our own time, which I found very useful.

Great course overall. Highly recommended!

A great course overall. For someone who is just starting with research, it has a very thorough overview of everything and it's very easy to follow. Dr Khajuria is very methodical and delivers in a manner which is easy to understand, regardless of your background. The exercises were given week by week; they were practical and helped to fully grasp the taught concepts. High Yield team was prompt with emails and could be contacted at any point for queries.

There is a couple of things that I think should be revisited. Firstly, the price. I don't necessarily agree that the price should be equal across all grades (ie from medical students to foundation doctors or CTs/STs). Although a minor discount was provided, I think the team should still re-consider the price. Secondly, the deadlines. I think it should be a bit more flexible (ie if you haven't finished the exercise by Thursday, often you wouldn't receive it at all).

Overall, a great course, 100% recommended to anyone who is either just starting or already has some research experience but is keen to enhance it.

Thank you for the review and for your kind comments. The deadlines have been set based on prior feedback and Thursday is chosen as it given enough time for our mentors to properly evaluate the responses and provide the students feedback which they have time to reflect upon prior to the subsequent session. But we will bear this in mind for future cohorts. Thank you and we wish you all the best!

Intro to SRMA- session 1

Mr Khajuria provided a clear overview of what the next 5 weeks would involve from the SRMA course. Session 1 initially felt a little overwhelming but the additional videos provided for us to watch in our own time were incredibly helpful in consolidating my understanding and completing the homework assignment.
