Only 32% of reviews said this site is bad, so I thought I'd give it a go to purchase some ebooks. Sadly, this site exhibits everything that's wrong with Digital Restriction Management (DRM) - a
system ostensibly to prevent piracy but actually designed to stop you sharing your books or converting them into different formats to use on different devices. You can't just download the ebooks
when you've paid for them. You need to open them with a third party application from Adobe. Adobe doesn't provide a version of this software for all operating systems, so if you use an operating system that is not supported like me, you're stuck and you've wasted your money. No refunds available.

Imagine a bookshop that was so desperate to prevent customers sharing the books they'd bought that they locked the doors once you were inside, forcing you either to leave without the books you've bought, or to escape through the toilet window. That's basically what this site does.

I'll probably download pirated ebooks in future. It works better.

Ordered a few books already, and was always very happy with the service, especially the notifications and the fast delivery.

Bought a CD for a last minute Christmas present and it arrived within a day, super impressed with Hive I highly recommend it!

I wouldn't give a star if that was an option, ordered a book that the website said was in stock, they took my payment and I was waiting and waiting for an update on delivery, finally I decided to contact them only to be told item was in fact out of stock, no one bothered to get in touch to tell me this, It was only because I got in touch that I found out, very poor service, will never use this company again.

Really impressed with Hive - I ordered 5 books yesterday and they've already been delivered, all in pristine condition (which never happens when I order from Amazon). Such a good alternative way to buy books online and contribute to small businesses at the same time.

I placed an online order with this company three days ago. Five minutes after I had placed it I received a confirmation Email from them and realised I had accidentally ordered 2 copies of the same book. I immediately telephoned their customer services and was told it was too late to change the order (after 5 minutes!) I then emailed their customer services and received the same reply.I looked on their website to see what it said about returns and it states that items can be returned but postage will be at the customers expense unless the item is damaged. I emailed customer services again and suggested that as I had only just placed the order perhaps they would pay the return postage. I received another reply basically telling me it was my own fault and no they wouldn't. They are obviously not at all bothered about their customers or I would suggest they might have considered making a gesture of goodwill under the circumstances. This was the first time I have used them and it will be the last. I suggest you avoid them too.

12/12/19 I was very happy to receive a further communication from Hive to say they are not only refunding the cost of the book but that I dont need to return the extra copy I ordered by accident. Much appreciated thank you. Just a pity I had to write such a negative review in the first place.

This is a brilliant set-up: allowing people like me who don’t want to support Amazon to buy books from independent retailers. Good service and easy to use site. Love it.

got the cheapest price after a net search. feels good too as they support local independent shops and you can choose one. far nicer than giving money to amazon, ebay etc.

I've ordered many things from Hive.co.uk the online bookseller, and they've always delivered when they said they would or earlier. Very happy with the service.

It's a shame their rating is being dragged down by misplaced reviews of the (unrelated) Hive home hub.

Do not buy ebooks from them if you have a Kindle. They need to make it clearer on the sales page that their ebooks are not compatible with every device, rather than burying the information. I can't believe I just wasted money on an unusable file.

Very good.

1) Price was fair.

2) Order update comms were prompt and clear. Even a Royal Mail tracking number on the email.

3) Item turned up when they said. Well packaged (recycled cardboard, printed with vegetable inks) rather than dreaded padded envelope.

4) Item was in perfect condition.

What's not to like?! Will use them again.

Great place to find and order books. Quick and easy.

Great alternative to you-know-who, supporting local bookshops is a nice bonus. Quick delivery too.

I discovered Hive only a few months ago through a friend and have used it multiple times since then. Although its range is not as wide as those of some online sellers, it is nonetheless comprehensive. Additionally, the discounts are consistently good, delivery is reliable and very fast, and the bonus of supporting a local bookshop (to which Hive will make a small payment for any order in itself and additionally so if you have your order delivered care of said bookshop) is great

It was directly thanks to Hive's listing of independent bookshops, I discovered one very close to me and and increasingly order books directly through it. However, Hive offers a very good alternative if for some reason my bookshop can't help me, and it's also ideal for sending book and DVD gifts

I love reading books, and think that nothing can replace them. This shop helped me to find more interesting books and get them very quickly! I am very happy!

If you love books, and prefer not to buy everything from Amazon this is the place for you. My experience of them has been excellent. Very competitive prices, fast delivery, and it supports local bookshops.

The service I have had from this company is great, the products always arrive on time and are what I ordered. Plus they help local independent bookshops too.
