Hey there! We're sorry to hear that you are not loving the idea of Premium. Just so you know, the entire database, price guide, collection management, blog, and more are still free. We had to introduce Premium for some services to ensure we were able to continue serving the community for the long haul. We've made a lot of improvements, especially to our App (also free to use).

There's got to be a better collector site than this rubbish.

Their tagline, 'built by collectors for collectors' should be changed to "built by whiny douchebags" because for all my interactions I had with them, that's always how they came across.
I'd been with them for several years back when it was simply Pop Price Guide, but alas it had to be absorbed into some Marxist hellhole that somehow coexists with capitalist values as "We need your money, but you'll do it our way!" Um ok, sure.
So now if you want to access their site just to even look at your own collection you'll need to subscribe and their whinging doctrine will tell you that there's simply no other way. $47 odd dollars, after being subjected to a U.S exchange rate, just to keep tabs on a collection that I actually spent weeks to establish on the site, but yeah, I guess the cost of soy lattes had gone up.
I previously contacted them several times over obvious flaws in their pricing calculations and questioned why some pop vinyls that had been out for years still had no hint of value and the reply was more whining about how they're only a small team, they don't have resources, they can't do this, can't do that, not sure what day it is and on and on etc.
If that's the case, why bother assimilating other sites and taking on so much if you lack the resources to control it properly? Why not just keep the status quo? It seems resistance really is futile. I'm sure I'll get some whiny reply that'll attempt to explain such a poor executive decision. I'll look forward to ignoring it.
In any case I thought I'd help them out initially and sent them a lengthy email outlining the average cost of several pops that were at that point valueless on the site and pointed to my sources for the costs I had provided. Rather than doing any research themselves to confirm my findings or do any work at all, I was told that they're unable to accept anything I sent on this matter as I was not officially part of the chosen ones and I'd need to "officially" join the team of Jedi's or something. Really? With chantings of 'one of us, one of us' circling my mind, I'm not sure how the info provided would be any different in any stretch of the imagination and it could be easily verified if someone there was capable of using a computer and examining the info as presented but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Even the usurpers don't like being usurped it seems.
Next came the site issues as HobbyDB started to slowly sink into the mire of inadequacy and even a simple matter of signing in became an old testament plague to ones sanity. The site was supposed to remember you for 30 days, why only 30? Don't know! But after you signed in you had to go back and choose their 30 day option, at which point the site will patronise you and point out that you've already signed in. But wait for it; if however, you then wanted to check your collection from highest to lowest or from A-Z, guess what? You'd have to sign in again. Fastest & worst 30 days ever.
Several emails venting my frustrations about this was reversed back on to me as the Mensa team at HobbyDB was adamant that it couldn't possibly be an issue at their end, how dare such a thing be suggested "A pox on thy house"! It's obviously something I'm doing wrong, or it's my device, or I've been gypsy cursed.
Worse still was their god-awful Captcha nonsense which every reasonable person hates, as humans confirming that they're human seems a lot like a Salem witch trial. If you're human, Captcha will send you insane, if not, clearly you're a robot.
And then well a lot of us hit a wall didn't we and reading between the lines of their whiny rhetoric, it pointed out "we can't, we can't we can't....." What can they do you ask? Don't know!
So I thought I'd try a subscription under the guise of 'give a little, get a little' but instead what I got was another headache as despite me giving them my credit details, they somehow decide to take money from somewhere else and as that account, which I no longer use didn't have enough in it, their system defaulted to another account that they had no authorisation accessing and syphoned money from there. Now I can already picture the reply I'll get that "they didn't, they can't or they wouldn't" but I can assure all who are reading this that - they did - they can and they would.
Nevertheless I'd had enough of them by this point, I'd deleted the account, so I've lost all info on my pop collection, the money will be refunded, if not by HobbyDB, then by the bank, so you'll have to find others to fund your gluten free muffins. Good luck and good riddance, I look forward to the cut and paste whiny reply I'm sure to get.

PS - The reply just says it all. 5 months to reply and that's what they come up with. It's exactly what happened and you can portray me as an insane person as much as you like, but I know what happened. The fact you've just ignored everything else says a lot!

I would normally reply but do not even know where to start here. This gentleman is just insane (just read it, for example "despite me giving them my credit details, they somehow decide to take money from somewhere else and as that account, which I no longer use didn't have enough in it, their system defaulted to another account that they had no authorisation accessing and syphoned money from there"- that is not what happened...).

We are not hiding any Dashboards. If you are referring to the Showcase we explained our rationale of why we cannot keep if free here - https://blog.hobbydb.com/2024/09/05/new-phase-for-hobbydb-begins-monday/. We have provided services to collectors for free for 10 years and just cannot do it anymore.

A great database of collectibles. I add to it all the time and use it to research what I miss in my model car collection. It's very broad so you can store a lot of information and photos about each item. Also SEARCH ON KEY WORDS TO FIND WHAT YOU are looking for.

New & Improved TTP - Not so much

As a 15 year plus member on the original Toy Peddler, that had become a great site for selling and buying diecast. Fortunately when the migration to Hobbydb happened I was not in the position of having a ton of sellers credits banked (maybe $50), so losing those in exchange for no fees on Hobbydb wasn't a huge issue.

What IS a huge issue is the fact that Hobbydb is not remotely user friendly, and trying to use the search function (as a seller or buyer) is a painful process at best. Gone are the days of scrolling through a members specific category listings and purchasing as you can no longer easily find those listings. Looking at member profiles, people with 25000 plus sales on the previous site now have 25. So traffic that's actually purchasing is WAY down from the previous version. Add to that multiple site downtimes/glitches and slow page loading as you scroll through an endless mass of pictures.

I can appreciate that there may have been issues we as end users didn't see with the old site, but the "improvements" made to the back-end side of the new site have pretty much ruined the customer experience on the front-end.

The new Toy Peddler site is terrible. It was so much better in the old format. Why mess with something that easy to look through and search and replace it with this trash. Might wanna revert it back cause it's terrible now. 15 yrs on the site and I'm done...

The old platform was based on a computer language that is out of security updates. It was dangerous to host and we were not able to find hosting companies for it (companies that would provide the necessary servers).

Took Our Money And Refuses A Refund.

This company took money from customers on their Site The Toy Peddler for the purchases of listing credits. They have now converted the items of their customers over to another of their websites Hobbydb which does not use credits and they refuse to refund the money paid for those credits. Instead they are offering a short time with no charges on the new site but all of the items they moved over were already prepaid until sold for up to 3 years. Taking money for a promised item and then offering something entirely different without offering a refund is fraud. You can't sell someone a new car then deliver a used one. To add insult to injury the new site is rife with issues. I have spent hours trying to help them work through all of these but they have still taken me for $3,868.96 in listing credits and they refuse to make a refund or any responsible settlement. They hide behind their "Terms & Conditions," of no refunds on credits but they have made them worthless since their new system does not use them.

I am rejecting the Hobbydb response because:

As they have said below. They changed the rules. They took my money and then changed the rules. Compare that to say a car dealer that took your money for a new car and then delivered a used car saying, "Oh, Well we don't sell New cars anymore, but, we will be glad to give you an extended warranty on that used car. As said all of the over 7,000 items I had listed at the time of the conversion were PREPAID for sale on the site for 3 years. Their best offer has been for 1 year of no fees on any items. Those that are prepaid are prepaid and should not have any fees at all. As for fees on new listings why would I want to make more new listings when the site is slow, poorly organized, and so difficult to use that sales are down over 90% vs the old site because customers got so frustrated they just leave. The old site served up pages of items 45 at a time almost instantly. The pages had page numbers that you could hit to jump right away to other pages forward or back. The new site after a wait of 2-3 seconds for the "SPINNING WHEEL," searves up 18 items that you scroll down to 3 wide and 18 in total. After you get to the bottom of the page you get the spinning wheel and then 9 items and so on as it repeats 9 at a time. If you go to Hobbydb's main site you can see that this design is to place Google ads which they are being paid for in between the items being presented. Despite what they are trying to tell everyone their intrest is not in helping sellers, but rather in building their database which they use to justify raising funds from the public several times per year. You will soon see all of these "NEW ITEMS," that were added to their database from The Toy Peddler, AT OUR EXPENSE (Mine and the Thousands of other Toy Peddler Users), being used to boast their great job of Building "The Worlds Fastest Growing Collectibles Database," in the numbers they post for fund raising I am certain. I charge $100 per hour for my services, and have given this new site thousands of dollars in FREE help based on that to try and mitigate all of the issues they had when they moved the items from The Toy Peddler to Hobbydb. Further I was one of the first users of Hobbydb several years ago and many of the issues that they had then, are still present. That is because their mission of building a database does not conform with the best interests of someone wanting to buy or sell the collectibles. Especially a high volume seller. Add to that the fact that customers have to do the SLOW SCROLL or the inefficient search on the new site and you have a nightmare since the transition. Hobbydb has made numerious statements to me over the phone that the issues with the credits were just really hard to figure out, and that this was the roughest conversion they have ever had. Well, that is business.. You need to step up to the plate and do the right thing, give the people their money back, or at least a reasonable choice. Chances are if your future funding rounds fail it will be the end of Hobbydb anyway.

These credits were sold as non-refundable to be used on the site for listing items for sale. For a number of reasons, the fee structure was changed to a final value fee if a buyer is using the check-out and none if the buyer and seller agree on a transaction privately. The Fee is low at between 2 and 5% and we offered this seller a long free period of no fee for items listed for sale from before this change as well as new items listed for sale. He insisted on a refund and after we explained again that the sale of these credits is non-refundable filed this.

HobbyDB does not deserve this 1 star…

HobbyDB does not deserve this 1 star but but its required to give a star rating. It is a scam they take your money and make out like you are the problem and they do everything correctly. I have sold the same car several times after selling it the first time. When they took over TheToyPeddler and merged it with HobbyDB site they took my listing credits of close to $100 away. Did not offer a refund or partial refund. They removed all my current listings and told me I had to relist them which would require having to repay to list these Its again. Having to pay a listing fee twice is just another way to scam more money.

Please do read our numerous emails to all sellers that we migrated from TheToyPedder. Your items were paused until you confirm your PayPal details, as explained that is needed so that you can receive payment from Buyers. You then only have to click the Unpause All Items button. There are no listing fees on The Toy Peddler and and your Credit Balance was converted into a no final value fee period. Please check your emails for all this and any other questions you might have.

They had a fraudulent listing and wouldn’t refund my money

I paid for an expensive item and didn’t receive it. The seller communication was mostly non existent except when they said that the listing I bought from went out of stock months ago and I shouldn’t have been able to pay for it and it they said it was the websites fault. Keep in mind this item was supposed to ship two days after purchase and it took about 20 for me to hear from the seller after I tried to reach out to both customer service and them. The customer service kept coming up with excuses why I can’t get my refund from them and they had me jump through many hoops. Keep in mind I wasn’t getting the item and they had a lot of my money. One of the support staff, Christian, even belittled me while they still had my money. I have reported to my bank and am contesting there theft of my money and I reported them to the Better Business Bureau in hopes to get my money that they kept from me under a listing that they had no item for. Please save yourself the stress, money, and time and go to a reputable website because all they had to do was refund my money for an item I was never going to get (apparently) and they haven’t as of the moment I’m writing this.

Hi Steve, I did not belittle you. I just told you that you bought this item from another Member on the site and NOT from us. I further explained that you would just need to start a PayPal dispute to get your money from the person you send it to. The same way you would have to do this on Facebook or another Classified site. You could already have had your refund and are currently in danger to miss the PayPal dispute cut-off period persuing the venue versus the seller of the item you bought.

HOBBY DB Toy Peddle SUCKS

PLEASE READ if you are a Toy Peddler member being held-up by Christian Braun and his crap hobbydb site. Many many people I've talked to can't figure out his new site and flat out don't want to cause it SUCKS, anyway he has completely changed what members signed up for and bought selling credits to list. Now he completely ruins the site and refuses to allow anyone any sort of a refund... personally I asked for 1/2. Needless to say being a collector/trader/seller it really rubs me the wrong way that this spoiled rich guy is basically screwing everyone out of their money. Hopefully there is a lawyer/collector out there or someone who can get a class action lawsuit against this clown!! At the very least! Please feel free to reply how he screwed you over..

Excellent place to not only database my various collections, but a place to keep score of the individual and total price of everything I have collected. Updates my total value frequently.
