Great Customer Serice
Better food than I expected for a ready meal. Also in the rare occasion there is something wrong with the order, customer service is excellent.
Unfortunately they only deliver through DPD, so bear that in mind if your local DPD is bad.

So Glad I Switched to HomeCooks
I was originally with a different company, but left as I was disappointed with the variety of meals and the overall quality (which I felt was a little too close to supermarket ready meals).
After doing a little research, I was drawn to HomeCooks as they appeared to tick all the right boxes. I am on my fourth box now and do not regret switching.
The range of options is large enough that I can’t see myself getting bored. The portion sizes are just right and the quality of the food has been excellent. I particularly like how the food arrives with each component in its own compartment, rather than everything mixed together. That way, I can plate up my meal properly rather than it looking a mess, which is far less appetising.
Contacted support a couple of times (changing delivery day, etc.) and they’ve been brilliant both times. Deliveries have been smooth sailing so far with each box arriving on time and the contents well packaged and protected. Plus, the order and account management process is super easy, making it effortless to select your meals, usually 2-3 weeks ahead.
Overall, I love the idea of food cooked by independent chefs, many of whom are cooking food that represents their culture and, in some cases, their childhood (reading on the front of the package about how the recipe was passed down from the chef’s mum or gran makes you appreciate the passion that’s gone into the meal).
This isn’t mass produced and it’s certainly not a supermarket ready meal.
If you want a service that delivers great-tasting food, authentic culinary experiences, and a decent-sized menu, I’d recommend HomeCooks.

Quite enjoying this so far.
Top two favourites are surprisingly the chilli and the turkey balls. Not so good the meatballs as they turned up very very dry.
Lots of different flavours to initially choose from but I will say I do worry about having a lot of choice in the long run.
Nice sustainable packaging there’s been a lot of thought put into it.
This is definitely one of the higher quality meal prep companies.
Delivery has also been good. Everything turned up looking like it should do.
So with week one in the Bag, I’m optimistically happy.

Home cook offers food feel like home cooked as all their chefs are home cooks. Their meal variety caters requirement of almost all diets. I have explored other competitors but no one offer so many vegetarian well balanced meals. Their packaging, meal information and delivery service are amazing. Definately recommend to give a try.

Decent flavour, but full of preservatives
I really wanted to like this, as the concept is good and the website looks great.
Received my first delivery - everything looked good, but some boxes had sauces spilled out so the packaging needs improving.
The flavour is decent, but the main issue I have is that the food boxes last until March 2027 frozen (9 months away), and you see preservatives added to all of the ingredients list, making these UPFs (ultra processed foods). The ingredients lists are also quitea long.
This is disappointing, as I had hoped these would be healthy alternatives to takeouts, but don't seem to be afterall. I have ordered frozen meals from other places that don't have preservatives added.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, this is worth addressing properly because there's an important misunderstanding to clear up.
Our meals are genuinely cooked by independent chefs in their own kitchens, using ingredients you'd find in a normal home cupboard. We do not add any preservatives ourselves to extend shelf life. That's exactly why our chilled meals only last 3 days, nothing has been added to artificially extend them.
On the March 2027 date: this isn't a sign of preservatives, it's how frozen food labelling works. Frozen meals don't have an expiry date, they have a 'best before' date, which is a recommended date for peak quality. Freezing is the preservation method, not chemicals. Any home-cooked meal you freeze yourself would safely last just as long.
On preservatives in the ingredient list: under UK food law we're legally required to declare all sub-ingredients of any compound ingredient. So if a chef uses chicken stock, tomato paste, mustard, soy sauce, or similar standard cupboard items, the preservatives within those items must be listed, even though the chef hasn't added them directly. For example, a typical chicken stock cube contains yeast extract and a preservative; tomato paste often has citric acid; mustard contains preservatives like sodium benzoate. These appear in our lists because we're being fully transparent, not because they've been added to the dish itself.
The length of the ingredient list reflects the same thing, real chef cooking uses multiple ingredients, each of which we declare in full. We could absolutely make the lists look shorter by hiding compound ingredients, but we choose not to.

My favourite food prep
I've used 6 or 7 food prep companies, and this is by far my favourite. The meals are delicious, and I like the variety. The trays they arrive in separate the individual elements so it's not one big mush like a lot of the others. I particularly enjoy the satay chicken, it's like a restaurant dish. I've contacted customer services a couple of times to ask questions, and they've been the best I've dealt with too - very polite, real people, and resolve queries quickly.

Worth a try!
What I liked: the price.
What I didn't like: the food. The menu options are very unique in regard to what I'm used to in the United States. Most meals lacked flavor and the options seemed to weigh heavy on Indian cuisine. Had an incident with the first delivery being misdelivered by the 3rd party shipping company but was refunded.

Taste is so personal, and you're right that our menu reflects the chefs we work with, many of whom specialise in South Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, so the flavour profiles can be quite different from what you might be used to in the US. There's a wider variety beyond Indian dishes on the menu too, including Italian, Greek and Thai comfort food, so worth a browse if you ever fancy giving us another go.

I enjoyed the food tasting, balance, and portions. The only issue I found was that the packaging was poor — not suitable for store storage, preservation, or oven cooking. For example: the last delivery box came with a spill of sauce from one of the dishes.

Amazing taste, would recommend
After trying many different services we came across this one and stuck to it - the meals are absolutely delicious, the flavours are great in every meal we had so far, and we tried about 20 of them already.
Good variety of veg and meat dishes, and when one time a meal did not arrive they re-sent it straight away (with a small compensation bonus no less)
Only drawback so far is the meals repeating each week, but there is so much choice it has not been much of a problem so far for my girlfriend nor I :)

Used to be amazing, degrading now …
My fave meal from home cooks used to be Beef Bourguignon but since they changed it recently, it’s not as good as it used to be before. It used to give home cooked, delicious and satisfaction when eaten. Now, the packaging has improved to being more sustainable and the plastic no longer breaks. But the actual recipe is now worse because they have added veg but that means there is less meat and the quality of meat is worse because you get a lot of fatty bits so about 25% of the meat has to be thrown out. So it’s giving we’re trying to save money by adding veg to seem healthy but actually we’re trying to decrease the amount of meat we add and the quality of it to reduce on costs. I wouldn’t say it’s a cheap option for a frozen meal, so it’s sucky that they’re starting to compromise on quality already this early on in their business.
