A cautionary tale

A cautionary tale! How I saved almost £2,000. I received a cold call from Home logic. They told me they were carrying out market research and would carry out a free energy review. They informed me that if the survey highlighted any issues they could apply for grants on my behalf that would greatly reduce the cost of the work. When their extremely friendly and likeable engineer came to my home he recommended Icynene spray foam insulation. He told us the felt in the loft was brittle and there was mould on the wood beams. He took pictures and e-mailed them to apply for the grant.
He then told us we had been approved for the grant but the scheme finished that day. We would have to sign up there and then. The total cost of the work was £7,500 the grant towards the work was £3800. We signed up and paid an £800 deposit. The next day I spoke to a friend who is a Chartered surveyor he said the quote was" ridiculously high". I got a quote from another BBA approved company, that specialises in spray foam insulation and heating solutions, they are official Worcester Bosch accredited installers and accredited Icynene spray foam contractors, their quote was only £1,980 in total. Half the price Home logic quoted after the £3,800 grant! I cancelled the order with Home logic. My advice is to get at least one additional quote just search for icynene spray foam installation on the internet and choose an Icynene accredited contractor. I saved myself allot of money!

Well where do I start? We ordered our resin driveway in Nov/Dec 2016 with an install date of Feb 2017. The resin was laid late Feb early Mach that year. Initially we complained that water was building up and we were told that this was normal. I asked for the guarantees to be issued and was told that they would arrive in the post. They never did. Later that year, part of the driveway started to come away. I contacted Homelogic in Jan/Feb 2018 to complain and was told someone would contact me to come out and view. They never did. I chased from February to around August and was told that they were awaiting replacement stones to fix the gap that had appeared. In this time, the resin had started to fade and the driveway looked awful. I was promised a date after the August Bank holiday and true to form no one showed. I complained direct to the CEO who advised that the driveway would be replaced in its entirety. This work was done with more disruption to us. During this work, the workmen damaged the step and this had to be replaced and cut through their cable switching off all electrics.

I was advised during the 2nd install that the original driveway had not been installed correctly and that no drainage holes had been drilled hence the driveway coming away. I was also told that the resin had not been UVA treated and that this was causing the driveway to fade in colour. The driveway is now complete however, in the evening when the light shines on the driveway, you can see all the trowel marks and all the humps and bumps were the driveway has not been laid flat. The resin that has been put in the step is a completely different shade to the resin on the driveway and just looks odd and unprofessional.

Am I happy with the driveway? Not really but I am not going through all the hassle for a 3rd time. Would I recommend Homelogic for resin drives? Not at all. Would I use Homelogic again? Never!

I finally have the guarantees almost 18 months after initially requesting them but a driveway that does not reflect the money we paid and hassle we have endured.

UPDATE

The driveway has started to come away again. I have contacted the company several times with no response. Under the terms of the guarantee, they have an obligation to fix any issues.

Looks like this matter will now be taken further if the company fail to respond

UPDATE 19/11/2019

Driveway has been lifted again and has been relaid properly this time by tradesmen from the Resin Mill.

Justin at Homelogic contacted me direct to resolve this issue and the guys from the Resin Mill have done a sterling job.

After almost three years it looks like we may have the driveway we paid for

Paul Allen explained how Icynene worked in a very easy to understand way. Hw was very knowledgeable, friendly and answered all my questions fully.

The two installers were very polite and friendly. They covered stairs with sheeting whilst they carried everything up and hoovered stairs and landing after they had finished.

Very pleased with the end result and the heating bill has gone down.

Last Tuesday an engineer from Home Logic came to my home to do an Energy check on my dwelling. During this visit he discovered that the fibreglass insulation required removing. He explained everything in a manner that I fully understood and I gave my request for foam insulation to be installed. The engineer was courteous and patient and very professional.

Today, two gentlemen from Home Logic came to install foam in my attic. The fibreglass had to be removed. Both of these gentlemen were diligent, fast and polite workers. Since their departure, I have glanced in the attic prior to replacing the hatch. Consequently, I thought the installation had been carried out to the highest standard and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

I found that from the time the engineer Malik came to the house to explain how lcynene might help with some issues i had with damp i felt it would be the product for me. He explained it in such a way that it was easy to understand how it works without the hard sell that you get from some companies which I don,t like.He was able to answer any questions I had and appeared very knowledgeable which enabled me to make an informed decision . The men who came to install the product were also very polite and helpful and I am pleased with the end result.

We had our loft insulated, found it quite expensive but having said that I believe given time we will benefit and save on our heating bills. It's been a very cold winter and I think we are warmer as a result. The workmen carried out the job cleanly and efficiently.

Having looked closely at the Trust Pilot star criteria I think in reality a 3.5 rating would be the most accurate but have gone with 4 stars as although there were problems with the installation, a 3 star rating would not fairly reflect the quality of the product.
The quoted price was very good and the planned installation works started very quickly. Unfortunately we then experienced a number of problems with the quality of work carried out in preparation for the laying of the resin driveway. Home Logic acknowledged and accepted that the service we had received had not been to their desired standards and assured us that the necessary remedial works would be carried out.
In practice this resulted in a much longer than expected period of time before the drive was was fully completed with Home Logic removing all of the first resin layer, making improvements to the sub base before relaying the whole drive. The result of which is a drive that does fully meet our expectations and which looks very very good; the gesture from Home Logic in recognition of the inconvenience was appreciated.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the resin bound driveway and if, as it appears, the unfortunate issues that we experienced have been fully resolved would also recommend Home Logic as installers.

Just had loft insulated with icy nene, Ghufran who came to talk to us about the product was very well informed and talked us through the whole process. The two men that came to do the job were very clean, making no mess at all and got on with the job with very little bother to me. I can't actually say whether it has saved us money on bills because it is too soon after having the insulation applied.

Had an unsolicited call from Home Logic today trying to sell loft insulation and the agent thought I was rude for questioning their pitch based on trying to suggest that the government says you need to replace your fibreglass insulation. I think it is extreemly rude to call people in their own homes. Would suggest anyone give this lot a wide berth.

I booked a visit to estimate cost of driveway done with Resin. No one turned up and no call. Contacted Home Logic told rep's wife had had a baby. Nice but no excuse why company who new didn't call. So another appointment booked with surveyor. Once again waited and once again no one turned up and no calls again either. Would you trust a company like this?
