We were recommended Hometec by a…neighbour

We were recommended Hometec by a neighbour & they have proved to be as good as we were told. From the time of going to the showroom to the completion of fitting 16 windows plus front door they have been excellent in all aspects. Feel we should especially mention the two fitting guys -Keith & Jude - over a five day period they worked tirelessly , were friendly & polite , every day they cleared up & throughout the time they respected our property by ensuring things were covered etc. Always helpful to answer any questions we had.
We are so pleased with the result , it looks really nice & shows what a professional job they have done. Thank You

highly recommended

We have all our windows and doors installed by Essex based company - Hometec. All goes smoothly, extremely satisfied with the installation Team. They went above and beyond to make sure no damage is done to façade/internal interior, have not left any mess behind etc. Quality was the priority. And waiting time for the factory line was unexpectedly short. Personally I think it is one of the most reliable windows company in Essex.

Shocking customer service

We had our windows and doors all fitted by them last year but then we had issues with a lantern window in our kitchen although they didn't install this at first, our builders did. After much rudeness and arguing they charged us another £600 to come and refit the lantern window and now we have a small leak coming through our ceiling! They want nothing to do with it, and will not help us in trying to repair it. We were told it was a favour? Who pays £600 for a favour? Avoid this company at all costs and the woman who answers the phone who I understand is somehow related to the owner of the company is so rude it's shocking! I will be contacting my friend at the Echo as I am now worried that all my windows and doors they fitted were a favour too with no comeback if anything goes wrong with them?

Hi Mrs Kappes,

I apologise you are not satisfied with the service we have given you. However after investigating this i feel this review should be directed towards your builder and not to us. The lantern was sold to you on a supply only basis with your builder to do the installation. The way your builder installed the lantern roof was completely incorrect, it is clear they had never done this before and have no experience in installing these products. You then called us to rectify the issues in the roof, we do not like pulling other trades work apart however we reluctantly agreed to put the issues right for you and charged you a labour only cost of £600, as a favour as this is what it would cost us.

If there is a leak coming through your roof, i would advise getting your builder back as this most likely has nothing to do with the lantern roof as this has been installed correctly and completely sealed.

With regards to the windows and doors that we have installed, you have a full 10 year insurance backed guarantee, if ever you have a problem just give us a call and we will have an engineer out to you within a couple of days.

Diabolical and shocking!

This was a diabolical experience - Warning do NOT pay any money up front to this outfit - we did and a year after we were still trying to get them to do our
conservatory but excuse after excuse and we eventually had to force them to return our money by taking legal action. They actually knocked down our old existing structure and then told us they were raising the price by 10K. We told them to clear off and they did leaving our garden in a very dangerous state. This was also a contravention of the architect's instructions which they also could not wriggle out off. The DGCOS were a waste of time too and just look at their ratings too? All in it together. They are the worst outfit I have ever come across and looking a their reviews I am not alone. Be careful, use another company. You HAVE been warned.

Thank-you for your review. However We feel it is somewhat unfair, your order was for a conservatory with building work, including, removing the back of your house which needed planning permission and a structural engineers report, You employed your own structural engineer to supply these building specifications to us. We chased and chased for these from you, as at the same time you were pressurising us to start work before this information was available. This we reluctantly did for you. The report from your structural engineer arrived after your instruction to start the work. We called for a site meeting with you to go through the options as unfortunately your engineers report called for a considerable amount of extra work, including extra depth footings, a sleeper wall with footings and a block and beam floor. At this meeting these extras were offered to you at cost and our builder, even offered to do the extra landscaping that you wanted in your garden at no additional charge. You were not happy to pay for this work and stopped us from continuing. You did not want us to continue or to pay the external costs that had been incurred on your project, these included, labour, gaining planning permission, Architect fees etc, these were paid on your behalf, we had made no charge for our own internal costs, these you refused to pay and complained to The Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman Service (D.G.C.O.S.) who judged that we had been extremely fair. You complain to the Finance company, who also judged that we were fair. you attempted to take legal action against us in which we came to an agreement, and we deducted the agreed costs from your deposit and returned the balance of your deposit promptly. All of the work that was carried out by us, has not been lost, as your new builder won’t need to charge you for it. We wish you and especially your new builder good luck with your project.

Not worth it

Our experience wasn’t great with this company. To start with the sales person just did the sale without any consideration of the client’s needs- that’s how it felt for us. He sold us handless door (which we were not aware of) after having a conversation with us about a baby at home and how important it is for us quiet and simple door operation when coming in and out when holding our son. So please be aware and clarify if you need a handle on both sides of the door.

The delivery was delayed by 4 weeks.

After installation we were left with plaster patches from the inside and outside requiring paint job. Maybe we were being naive not knowing this but we lived in a new built apartment previously so we had no idea we will need to organise a paint job afterwards. Indoors is fine and we did it ourselves, however, outside we don’t know the colour as the house was built & painted before we moved in. Its an off white pastel colour which is not easy to match. Again, something that was not explained to us during the sale process. When we called for explanation we were pointed to the contract where they take no liability for damage caused. They did send an installer back to sort out plaster as it was cracked and not level. After that adjustment, we were bombarded with emails and phone calls to pay the remainder even though we were still waiting for replacement glass that needed to be installed.

Lastly, when repainting the walls inside, we noticed that at the top the were massive gaps left causing drafts into the house. There was no apology about this, they just said they will fix this when installing the replacement glass. So 3 weeks we had to live with drafts during winter months.

The only positive is that the door itself it nice looking even though its a bit tough to operate from the inside, we are getting used to it.

I would not, however, recommend this company for the simple absence of customer care and support.

Don’t do it..

This company do not care about you once they have your money..
I had several issues and they really don’t rush to correct them.. their engineers don’t know what they are doing half the time and the receptionist is not very nice and a very good liar.

Things go wrong that sometimes can’t be helped, it’s the way it is dealt with that counts and Hometec really don’t care about you once they have your money. I would not recommend under any circumstances.

Shambles of a company

Shambles of a company. Della is the most rude and unprofessional personal I know, the staff consistently lie about my orders being “late”. Save yourself some money, go somewhere else.

Utterly useless company

Utterly useless company. I suspect that they are simply middlemen for the manufacturers as they know aboslutely nothing about windows.

I paid £900 to have an "Acoustic" 41dB "Sound Proof" window installed. I measured the before and after compared to my 20 year old double glazing. The difference was negligble. No difference at all.

I have called Hometec 8 times, I have spoken to Terry and Jack and been passed from pillar to post and no one wants to take responsibility for an unfit for purpose product. Jack has advised me to 'Adjust' the window or to try a triple glazed window, obviously I'm not going to put a third window in and the window fitter, who did an excellent job, has shown me that there is no adjustment available on these windows.

Hometec have REFUSED to send a window engineer out as "I'm too far away". This window is completly unfit for purpose and I would avoid these people at all costs. Once they have your money they have zero interest in you or your problems whatsoever!

Unfortunately this is a fitting problem and not a product problem. You didn’t come direct to us for your installation You have obviously used an inexperienced third-party window installer probably for cheapness and unfortunately this has impacted on the finished product.
We are more than willing to send an experienced window installer to refit or adjust your window so that it works and seals properly however this would be chargeable as the issue is a fitting issue and we didn’t fit it.
Alternatively you could ask your fitter to contact us for fitting and setting-up guidance, which we are more than willing to supply.

Disappointed

Had arranged for someone to come out and look at our leaking conservatory which is still under warranty. Had to wait 2 weeks for an available appointment. When the fitter hadn't turned up during the given timeslot I rang the office. The lady that took my call was extremely rude. I would not recommend or use Hometech again based on my experience of speaking to this lady. As the first point of contact I think it's important to be polite and courteous. This lady has put me off Hometech more than the leak!!

If I could have give no stars I would…

If I could have give no stars I would have! Where do I start........ we had Hometec do our 1st extension. The fitters were very hit & miss (mostly miss) we had a fitter sit in his van for 2 hours. None of the window boards matched not the same widths/depths. On our 1st floor we had french doors with a glass balcony so the side lights needed to be high enough for the windows to open. When the balcony was fitted the windows didn’t open. Now this was all finished including monocouche render, inside all new carpets & plastered/painted.
They came round to inspect with a view of offering some silly money to leave as is. We said no. So consequently the side lights were ripped out ruining everything including the render. So I now had to have beading inside to hide the damage & the outside needed to be redone at a cost of £200 which they were supposed to pay the renderer directly. They didn’t so it was left to us.
We had a 2nd extension & a set of bifolds didn’t fit so to save remaking the doors we had to get our builder to cut some brick off so the doors fit. Which they did at another cost of £180 to us. Suffice to say I was dubious about using this company again, but we wanted everything to match, so I gave the benefit of the doubt. Again we had a very angry & aggressive fitter who snatched paperwork from my hand & told my builder on the phone to ‘F... Off’ on the phone, very unprofessional & intimidating. He was trying to pass blame. Ultimately if they were measured correctly they would have fit!
Now I took these costs off my bill (I have saved this company money by not pursuing for compensation) or have them make the doors again to fit, which they REFUSE to accept even though I’ve sent invoices.
They are quick enough to take your money, but beware!!!
They should have come out twice now to adjust the bifold door which has dropped. They cancelled the appointments at the last minute by sending an email saying I still owe them £380........

Thank you for your feedback,
In 2019 we completed a Window, Door and Bi-fold installation for you on your house project and at that time agreed to replace one of your new windows because your Juliet Balcony was subsequently fitted higher than your builder had agreed with our surveyor and restricted its opening, this was done free of charge for you. We also agreed a credit of £200 for any extra costs involved. In 2020 you came back to us and placed another order for 4 more Windows, 1 more Door and 1 more Bi-fold. on completion of this contract you claimed, that you had incurred additional costs from your builder back in 2019, (the earlier job), half a day extra to finish around the replaced Juliet balcony window. We said although this had been settled back in 2019, we were still willing to pay this, on receipt of your builders invoice, this you have been unable to supply us with and you just deducted £380 from your current contract. This appears to be an extortionate amount of money on top of the £200 already taken and unfortunately until we receive this invoice, we cannot credit it against your outstanding balance invoice.
