Great Platform — Poor Customer Service and No Sense of Urgency

We’ve used Hootsuite for years and really love the platform itself — it’s powerful, intuitive, and makes managing multiple client accounts easy. However, when something breaks, the customer service process is deeply frustrating.

Recently, all of our Instagram Business connections failed, causing posting interruptions for multiple clients. We followed every troubleshooting step and even confirmed it wasn’t a permissions issue, but support has been slow, repetitive, and unwilling to provide a timeline for escalation.

Not having a connection - the key purpose of having Hootsuite - is a critical issue that should be treated as such. Having an issue that repeats across multiple accounts on the same platform is a clear indication of escalation and I'm so frustrated that I have to be the one to go back to my clients to explain why things aren't being posted on time.

Very frustrated.

Atrocious Customer Service – A Month of Being Ignored

My company chose Hootsuite’s annual plan after the free trial, and the experience has been nothing short of disastrous.

From the very first attempt to pay, their payment portal failed. It failed the second time, the third, the fourth, the fifth, and still, after MORE THAN A MONTH, the issue remains unresolved. Despite multiple tickets and follow-ups, NO ONE AT HOOTSUITE SUPPORT HAS ACTUALLY HELPED. I wait weeks between their vague and unhelpful responses, all while more and more of the product is restricted because HOOTSUITE WILL NOT FIX THEIR OWN BROKEN SYSTEM AND WILL NOT LET ME PAY.

NEVER in my professional career have I had to BEG A COMPANY TO ACCEPT MONEY FOR A SERVICE. The incompetence, lack of urgency, and disregard for customers is astonishing.

This has caused real business disruption. I have lost access to scheduled posts, social channels, and critical insights because of their failure.

HOOTSUITE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. If you value your time, your business continuity, or even basic professionalism, DO NOT RELY ON HOOTSUITE.

Be warned

Be warned, you cancel your subscription and they still charge you, they have a trick they use with paypal to trick their system to deny your claim. You will have to go thru your credit card directly to get a chargeback.

The worst costumer service EVER

The worst costumer service EVER. Tried to even just set up my account, but got stuck in a loop. The first email they told me to do the obvious, go into private mode, delete history and cash. Did nothing. One button was just linked to the wrong page but that was hard for them to understand it seems. They replied they’ve sent my ticket to someone else, then they replied it was again sent to someone else. They informed me it was fixed, tried it, and got stuck in the same loop. I just emailed them to cancel my subscription, they just did that without still trying to fix it?
And this all in the time span of ONE WEEK. Horrible.

Hootsuite is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch…

Hootsuite is IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with by phone. If you have questions, you will have to go through an AI chat bot for 10 mins before you get bounced to a live chat with a rep and then they do everything possible to handle everything via AI Chat. I just cancelled the service due to the lack of Customer Service.

THEFT

THEFT! Due to technical issues, we were unable to use the Hootsuite services. Asked for help with no resolution. We asked for a refund but only brushed us off to the terms and agreement. Filed a charge back with the bank and lost. Now going back trying to work through technical issues again we have been told we must pay $1800 AGAIN because when the charge back was filed they closed our account and the funds are gone. How on earth do you get away with this lack of support, help or customer service?

Customer service won't budge or help at all, they will only give off the scripted response.

HIDDEN AUTO RENEWAL!

BEWARE that they will hide an auto renewal into your contract. The rep I signed up with NEVER mentioned that the contract would auto renew! In fact, we talked a lot about how I'll try this out for a year and then see if it's a right fit. They make it SO hard to get out of your contract. I gave over 60 days notice that I didn't want to keep using Hootsuite, and they told me they need 90 days. I did find the auto renewal, hidden DEEP into the fine print via a LINK in fine print in my contract. They claim to not be hiding stuff but that was pretty deep in there in my opinion. I was also passed through at least 5 reps in my 11 months. It was SO frustrating to have to re-explain my business and needs over and over again every few weeks. Their part of their contract said they'd give me exceptional customer service but that one factor alone made it crazy hard to utilize and have hootsuite be a part of my team as they'd promised. They also upped the payment without warning, and even though that is cause for me to be able to cancel, they keep talking their way out of it. They are charging me $500 more this year without letting me know about it. I am paying over $8,500 a year to use their Enterprise plan. it is NOT worth it. Don't do it.

I asked to speak with a manager, of course my rep was "the manager" and she said she'd already "expedited my case to Legal" (whatever that means), but I'm not able to talk to the Legal team. Utter insanity.

Hootsuite- let people who don't want to do business with you OUT. Why would you force people into contracts they don't want to be a part of. It's crazy. It's also crazy that people on your basic plan can opt out at any time, but those of us who signed up for really expensive contracts have to jump through hoops to get out. We are your most valued customers- treat us that way! Good grief!

Very bad company, would not listen to me and my complaint, refused to give me a refund and kept my money and stopped replying to my correspondence. Avoid this company at all costs, they are scammers and will rob you of your money.

I asked for a refund because I was not satisfied with the services. They sent it but I never received it. I complained but they don't want to solve the problem I've been waiting for three months. I provided the bank with all the information but the bank says they didn't send the money at all. A big shame. I don't recommend cooperation

RESOLVED: Hootsuite will bill you even if you DELETE your card details from their system

I deleted my card details from my Hootsuite account to ensure it would be cancelled/unsubscribed at the end of the billing period. Despite that, they withdrew more than 1000 euros from my account over Easter weekend. The last communication I received from them was an email confirming my account would be canceled on May 2 because of the removed card details. And, because it's Easter weekend, nobody is manning their customer support chat.

I won't be using Hootsuite moving forward because clearly personal info deletion requests aren't being honored.

UPDATE: Hootsuite refunded the amount quickly and efficiently.

I am excited about using Hootsuite…

I am excited about using Hootsuite because of the social media benchmarking and social listening. One thing that I've noticed since using the product is that customer service doesn't respond to chats, the social media platform analytics are not accurate (I have to go to Meta or Linkedin directly for accurate numbers on impressions and likes), and Hootsuite doesn't seem to see when I check the inbox (I got a message recently saying that if I didn't use the inbox within 5 days, the function would be taken away. I use this function every single work day so this is confusing).

They Robbed Me $1188

Hootsuite auto-withdrew $1188 from my account for an annual membership, raising my rate from $107.88 without any kind of notification. In fact, they invoiced me AFTER withdrawing my funds from paypal. What made this so stressful is, they don't have a customer service telephone line. They only use twitter chat or email tickets. This was so disheartening. I had been a paying customer for 10 years. You just don't do this kind of thing! Thankfully, I disputed the charge through my bank and Paypal and got my money back. Too bad. I really liked their product.
