I disconnected the call before I was able to leave a review for the service agent who assisted with my call. Candy was knowledgeable and kept the temperature steady while helping me navigate through a reseller site restoration due to my account being deleted errantly. She was composed and professional and kept me amply abreast of the situation. We moved toward resolution and I was assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly.
Bindhu was extremely helpful and patient explaining the migration process from a reseller plan to VPS plan!
Service, price, and value are a 3 at best. The reason for 1 star is due to all reseller accounts ONLY use out dated MySQL (5.7.23-23) which reached END OF LIFE in October 2023.
END OF LIFE, which means it will no longer be supported and will NOT receive security patches or bug fixes anymore!
As if that was not bad enough... We talking reseller accounts. Who is going to want to pay for hosting that will not support the lastest versions of Joomla, Wordpress, and Drupal to name just a few.
I reached out to support, all they could tell me was they were using MySQL (5.7.23). and that if I wanted a different version I would have to upgrade to a self managed VPS.
Ok, first off, I picked a managed reseller account because I do not want to manage hosting servers any longer. Second, 5.7.23 is END OF LIFE!
I waited and waited, expecting that a commercial hostong provider would get with the times. I mean, this is simple logic. its been close to a year now and they are STILL using 5.7.23.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, I did find a new provider that does not force customers to use vulnerable software.
TO HOSTGATOR:
- MySQL 5.7 reached its end of life in October 2023.
- MySQL 5.7 will no longer receive security patches or bug fixes.
- MySQL 5.7.23 and earlier versions have known vulnerabilities, including CVE-2018-3155, which allows low privileged attackers to compromise MySQL Server.
- It IS recommended that all customers using MySQL 5.7 upgrade to MySQL 8 ASAP!
I've been with HostGator for over 15 years, supporting my clients with a reseller account. Earlier this year I upgraded and migrated to a faster service. It's been fantastic. All of my clients' websites are much faster now. I was also impressed with the top notch service they gave me thru the process. I'd have to say it's HostGator's online support that has kept me with them for these many years. I'd love to see a feature where I could tip say $5 or more when I get help from a service agent.
All in all, I'd totally recommend this company if you're providing website hosting for your clients.
Oh boy!
I was a reseller for these guys for years, I was winding down my business, and decided to drop one of my reseller accounts (I had two). I cancelled it from the next renewal date, I started to get warnings that my account would close if I didn’t renew - I was fine with that, that is what I wanted. Then past the expiry I started getting warning emails that my content would be deleted unless I renewed, I was fine with that too - I had removed everything that mattered. Then, to my horror, I discovered that they deleted both accounts!
I have been in a fight with them since, they insist it was my fault, and forced me to move to a VPS to recover my needed cPanel accounts. I paid for the minimum, and have removed the recovered accounts, and hosting elsewhere- what a nightmare! Total incompetence, and a total unwillingness to help. Stay away!
I have been using hostgator reseller for years. Easy to use, has all of the tools needed and easy to find. Once in a while when I have been stuck on something, they were very quick to respond, understand my issue, and guide me through solutions.
worst support, i lost all my data cause them.
choose another company if you need real support not the persons who chat with you without solving your problem. about 10 days chatting, sending docs they asked, finally they deleted my reseller account.
i was customer of them nearly 15 years.
i had worst expreience of my life. they f.cked up my last 10 days.
choose you another company for you hosting.
beleive me it is real expreience what i am telling you.
The increase of the reseller aluminium plan is unbeliveble, is too much!!!
Ashritha was fabulous! I'm dealing with a complex issue as a HostGator reseller and she was super helpful and I got a resolution after talking to many other helpful people there.
I made the purchase from reseller hosting on 06/28/2024 and was waiting for the release and on 06/29/2024 they canceled my purchase for no reason, as I had already deducted it from my card, I do not recommend this company hostgator.com.br
HostGator has shown me exceptional customer service in the many years I've been with them. I am a reseller with dozens of hosting customers who love the service they get from me via HostGator. One thing I'm upset about, is that I was told they will not be continuing to support reseller accounts. This has me tearing my hair out, but other that, I recommend them highly.
I've been a reseller for HostGator for over 10 years. My sites are up and my clients are happy, so I am happy.
When my sites were migrated from reseller to VPS, it was not made clear to me that I had to set up custom DNS servers and change all the sites settings. The process to create custom DNS servers is not clear, creating a long headache for me.
I give one star because I can't give less.
I have been a customer of HG for many years, I am a web developer and had quite a few hosting plans with HG including reseller, shared, dedicated, etc.
Years ago, when HG was bought by Endurance International Group (same owners of bluehost, etc.) the service began to decline rapidly, then I took my sites from HG to another hosting provider, but I made the mistake of leaving some sites still staying in HG... ERROR!!!
Last week I received some emails from HG saying that the shared plans had changed, from unlimited space to 10GB !!! (Hatchling shared plan)
The 3 or 4 shared plans that I still have on HG (not for long) each exceed 200 MB, and HG threatens to change my plan to a stupidly expensive one, without further ado, at the end of the current period if I don't lower the used space to less than 10MB.
This, as you can see, is ridiculous! No matter how many email messages I delete from the server, I will never reach 10MB and they know it.
just search hostgator on reddit and you'll see what people really think about HG.
I already started migrating the few sites I have left in HG to another hosting company and thus end this nightmare.
and still, they have the nerve to ask me "Could you put in a good word for us?"
I hope my comments help someone think twice before doing business with HG, although I am sure my review will never be published.
Purab was extremely helpful in correcting a downed and cross-linked website. Excellent service. I've been a HostGator reseller since 2008. Always the best. :)
I have been a Hostgator customer for 18 years, they changed the php version of my reseller account, out of my 20 sites 3 of them could not work with php 8 despite having the same configuration as some working with it. Needless to say the customer support told me that the sites were not compatible and even got angry at some point. I changed host, migrated my reseller account, everything is working on PHP8.
I then come back to HostGator to tell them that I'm leaving and they are horrible and was greated with "My Pleasure !"
Flee while you still can
Our company having more than 150 shared and reseller accounts with HostGator now moving one by one to other host. Our older plans automatically they are changing to higher plans based on the data size. for a 20GB data they changed to Business plan and have to pay around 250 - 350$. If we move to other hosts, we get 36 months for 100$ or less if we talk to their sales guys.
I'm going to be writing two reviews because the first Support person was horrible - her name was Sheryl(Cheryl). However I hung up and called back-in, and got Erwin the next Support person who was absolutely fabulous. I'm a Reseller and have had my account with HG since 2009. Each time I called in the past, I got nothing but great service. Today I was working with Erwin and he didn't disappoint. He too was kind, generous and knew what he was doing. He for my credentials - I gave him the same ones I gave "Sheryl" and he found my account instantly. He helped me reset my cpanel password, and provided the name servers I needed to create a new account for a new domain I was transferring-in, and although I've done this a million times with the other domains I have under my account. He remained on the phone with me until it was done. Host Gator is a great company. Sometimes they hire the wrong people. - That can be expected, but when you get great service all the time, speaking with a "wrong person: can be a slap in the face. But Erwin and his supervisor Dan were wonderful. Thanks Guys.
Here's my second Review. The first Support person I worked with at HG was absolutely Horrible!! She said her name was Sheryl(Cheryl). When I called in, she asked for my domain - she couldn't find it. She asked me for my primary email, which I provided. Couldn't find my account. Then she asked if I had any other domains on my account which I provided. Then asked me for one of the email accounts on that domain - I did. She still couldn't find me. After about 20 minutes, I asked if I could speak with someone else, She said, "Why because they're using the same tools that I'm using. They won't be able to help you." I then asked for a Supervisor. She said they won't talk with you because it appears you don't have an account here. Now I'm angry because she's clearly NOT doing her job, nor is she providing any form of customer service. That's when I asked for her name. She gave me Sheryl(Cheryl). I told her that since she couldn't help, and is clearly blockiing me from speaking with anyone else, I sai I'm just going to hang up and when I call back, I'm going to ask for a supervisor and that person will be able to help, since she didn't know what she was doing. She said, "Go right ahead"....the nerve of this girl!!! So I called back, and when the support person answered I gave him my credentials and he immediately found my account. Some of these people aren't trained with customer service. Most of the people I've spoken to in the past clearly know what they're doing. This woman doesn't. She needs to be fired!
Very expensive now. Reseller aluminum. I wanted to downscale. Back down to 2 sites. Reseller costs me NZD $87. / mo. $US 50. Wow! Unable to change plan. Recent price increase.
