I recently moved from afar and had relied on an agent to preview an apartment for me. The photos were stunning and I had no concerns about leasing it—particularly because the unit was listed as "turn key" on HouseSigma's website.

When I got there, I found that the place was a disaster. It hadn't been cleaned, paint was peeling from the ceiling, there were holes in the wall with exposed live wires, closet storage racks were ripped from the walls, the microwave was dead, and there was no working thermostat.

While I wouldn't expect an agent to pick up on all of these details, some should have been readily apparent. Listing the unit as "turn key" was very much a misrepresentation of it's state.

While this particular agent was communicative and friendly to deal with, the whole experience has deepened my mistrust of the real estate industry. I trust that this will serve as a learning experience for the team.
