I’ve really enjoyed the How to Teach My Ummah – Islamic Science of Reading course. What I really love is that it doesn’t just jump straight into teaching phonics. Instead, it starts with the principles of mindset and behaviour, helping us better understand and support the way students think, and giving us the tools to improve their self-confidence.
The course then goes further by teaching about pre-phonics skills, giving practical strategies that I had never come across before, despite doing my own research into teaching reading.
I’ve found these strategies incredibly useful when teaching and they have helped me think differently about how I can set my students up for success.
Reading is such an important skill that impacts so many areas of a person’s life, so I really appreciate that this course looks at the bigger picture rather than simply teaching phonics in isolation.
I would highly recommend this course to teachers and parents who want to understand not only what to teach, but also how to build the right foundations for their students to thrive.

Without a doubt, one of the best investments I have made for my children. This service genuinely feels like having a second pair of hands, particularly as a working mum who wants to give her children the best possible foundation in phonics and reading but doesn’t always have the time to do everything herself.

Alongside the support they receive at school and the reading we do at home, having consistent, focused phonics sessions has made such a difference. It has taken some of the pressure off me while still giving me the reassurance that my child is receiving regular, high-quality support.

What I have appreciated most is the consistency and the fact that the sessions are structured but still engaging for young children. My son has never once resisted logging on for his lesson, which says a lot in itself! Seeing his confidence and reading ability develop has been so rewarding.

For any parent, particularly working parents who feel stretched trying to fit everything in, I would wholeheartedly recommend this service. It has been worth every penny for us.

We decided to use How To Teach My Ummah after our daughter had been off school for a period of time due to health reasons. We were worried about how much learning she had missed, especially with her phonics screening check only three months away, so we wanted to give her some extra support.

From the beginning, Nana and Ms Khadijah were so supportive and really took the time to understand what she needed. The lessons were fun, engaging and tailored to her level, which meant she genuinely enjoyed them and always looked forward to each lesson.

Ms Khadijah was incredibly patient and encouraging, and made learning feel enjoyable rather than pressured. We have seen such a big improvement in our daughter’s reading and phonics, and she has moved up several levels. Most importantly, she is now much more comfortable and self-assured when reading.

We are so pleased with her progress and would highly recommend How To Teach My Ummah to any parent looking for additional reading and phonics support.

**An Exceptional Teacher Who Has Transformed Our Daughters’ Learning**

When our daughters, Maryam and Khadijah, first started lessons with Sister Nana Abenia nearly two years ago, they barely knew their phonics sounds and could hardly read. Since then, their progress has been truly remarkable. They now read and write independently at Year 2 and Year 3 levels, with one of them performing above the expected standard for her age.

Nurturing them from such an early stage to where they are today has taken phenomenal effort, patience and dedication. Sister Nana puts genuine love, care and sincerity into every interaction. She celebrates and rewards every milestone, however small, which has built their confidence and love of learning. She has developed such a wonderful rapport with our daughters that they genuinely look forward to every lesson and adore their teacher.

What makes her especially valuable to us is that she combines excellent English teaching with beautiful Islamic tarbiyah. Our daughters learn not only reading and writing from her, but also benefit from her manners, kindness and excellent Islamic character.

Teachers like Sister Nana are exceptionally rare and should be treasured. May Allaah accept her efforts, preserve and bless her, make every lesson she teaches a source of sadaqah jariyah, and place it heavily upon her scale of good deeds.

I’m so happy I found HTTMU, she has really helped my younger cousin build confidence and the tutor’s knowledge of teaching and learning really makes the sessions engaging! Most tutoring services only focus on academic practice but with HTTMU students also get pastoral support through encouragements and personalised lessons. I am truly grateful to Nana and her team for dedicating so much of their time and effort to teaching my son. He has been behind in writing, and over the years, it has been challenging for me as a parent to support him with his learning due personal circumstances.

I honestly cannot recommend Hot To Teach My Ummah enough! Nana Abenia was absolutely brilliant with my son when he was five and just beginning his reading journey. I wanted him to feel confident and prepared before starting Reception, so over the summer he had regular lessons with her — and the progression was nothing short of amazing.

By the end of the summer, he was writing basic sentences and confidently forming words, which was such a huge leap from where he started. But more than the academic progress, what really stood out to me was how much he genuinely loved the lessons. He would look forward to them, get excited beforehand, and always come away feeling proud of himself.

Nana Abenia has such a special way of building confidence. The little challenges and activities she introduced really boosted his self-belief and made learning fun rather than pressured. Even now, several years later (he’s in Year 4!), he still remembers those classes and speaks about them fondly.

I truly believe that the solid foundation he built with Nana Abenia is what allowed him to progress so confidently. How to teach my Ummah has been a truly beneficial guide to teaching phonics. Their phonics workbook and resources are unique due to the Islamic focus. Muslim children can now learn phonics from a place that celebrates their identity. The techniques taught have proven time and time again to effectively teach new sounds and how to segment and blend words. I would highly recommend their training and tutoring programmes for Muslim parents, teachers and children.

Alhamdulillah, Allah guided me to Miss. Anisah. I would 100% recommend parents to join her phonics programme. You will see a huge improvement in your child’s reading and writing ability AND confidence. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed Miss Anisah’s lesson such till today we are in touch with her and my daughter still wants to learn from her. The classes were well planned and thought out to meet each child’s personal needs. The sessions were fun and engaging and incorporated reading, listening, writing skills. The bonus for me as a parent was I could trust Miss. Anisah’s deen and leave my daughter in her care. My daughter was always reminded about Islamic behaviour with students and towards the teacher and ultimately directing everything back to Allah. How To Teach My Ummah has been such a blessing for my son Allhamduliah!! I was going through such a difficult time with my son not being able to differentiate letters, sounds, and READ. Whenever we would sit down to read he would get anxious, frustrated and just guess the words. Allhamduliah after finding How To Teach My Ummah my son is now excited to read!! In one year he has advanced 3 grade levels Allahuma Barik. Reading is now fun in our home and I could not be happier with How To Teach My Ummah!!
