Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the product, often describing it as unreliable and difficult to use. People frequently encountered issues with the app and website, finding them unresponsive and poorly designed, which made basic functions like printing or managing accounts frustrating. The subscription service also drew strong criticism, with many feeling it was unsatisfactory and made it impossible to use their printers effectively. Reviewers consistently reported problems with the printer's functionality, including connectivity issues, failure to recognize cartridges, and an inability to print despite being online and having ink. The process of setting up and troubleshooting was often described as lengthy and unhelpful, leading to a general sentiment of regret over purchasing HP products.

HP SMART APP IS STUPID

HP SMART APP IS STUPID
Save yourself. Finally they admitted it doesn't work after 20 hours on phone with HP " customer service. Don't let them send you a replacement - it's a "refurbished" model which voids your org. warranty!
Delete the smart app, install the regular windows drivers and HP scan and capture and presto, it will work even wirelessly. Never sign up for Instant Ink!

HP have found their self destruct button

I'm convinced HP are trying to self destruct. Firstly my HP 9010 is connected via USB but the printer will not print as it says I must use HP Smart via WiFi (I don't have Instant Ink), after I set this all up and it prints great; but when I shut down my PC for the evening and reboot another day it cannot see any printer on my home network. I switch to the USB (which I haven't disconnected) and the printer functions as it should until I try to scan a document. It cannot see the scanner which is part of the printer that it can see. The only remedy is reset the printer defaults to factory then I can scan and print via wifi/HPSmart. Next day switch on the computer and we start the whole caboodle over again. So I decide just to use my phone instead but it says the printer is permanently busy. I go to the printers job queue via pc and there's nothing there. I reset the network settings once again and PC will see the HP 9010 ok and print to it but the phone still sees the printer as busy. I delete the app & reinstall but still doesn't work. I follow HP help line by line but nothing resolves it. The bizarre thing it all worked perfectly on my last OfficeJet Pro (bought in 2013). I have owned HP since 1989 and have always been a satisfied customer. My patience on this HP 9010 with HP Smart is wearing very thin indeed.
I’ve just realised that HP (in 2023/4) IMO no longer stands for Hewlett Packard, but Horrendous Printers.

Absolutely abysmal service

Absolutely abysmal service. I started my subscription over a year ago and since then they have sent out only one cartridge by post. I installed the cartridge myself and they claim they are not sending me any more because I’m using a store bought cartridge. I spoke to customer services about this issue and they asked for my details and then claimed they couldn’t even find my account. I asked for a refund. They did not reply to this so I’ve cancelled my subscription and will not use them ever again.

Should be zero stars. The app is the worst one I have ever had the misfortune to try to use. Printer will be going back to the shop tomorrow.

It's impossible to log in

It's impossible to log in, to get past the "prove you are human" AI training they are doing. Just stop this nonsense, this is not really a proof of humanness but of cleverness and patience... and it leaves many humans without support. Some consumer protection body should react to this. And then it was impossible to leave this feedback on their website. Awful
de-humanised experience which is going to haunt its creators in their old age.

HP SMART APP Does NOT Work, HP intends for it to NOT PRINT

HP SMART APP does not work, HP knows it doesn't work and intently misleads the customer. The intention is for HP not to provide INK, as part of their SCAM of unlimited INK supplied for the 1st six (6) months. There MUST be a Class Action Lawsuit Against them so customers can be reimbursed 100X for their lost time, money, and aggravation.

We wasted at least 40 hours of our time on the Hewlett Packard game of their NON Working HP Smart App. You can start, stop, shut off, stand on your head and this APP is worthless. The only way to print w/ HP is to HARD WIRE the Printer because HP can't handle and or provide a PRINTER that is Wireless. The support staff is incompetent, has no solutions and HP does not make the customer whole knowing their Printer Interface is a joke. Why hasn't HP been SUED to stop their deception & lies? We've put up w/ this deception for 6 months straight. If it were physically possible we'd like to stick their HP Smart up where the sun doesn't shine. I'd smash it and send it into them, but the printer works fine. They have NO INTERFACE w/ Software that works. They can only provide a WIRED Printer only.....HP is accountable and liable for nothing. LIE, DECEPTION, LIE is how HP operates their business w/ the PHONY HP SMART APP. Plain & Simple HP does not offer a Wireless Printer that works.

Worst app in the history of apps.
Cannot do anything without logging in twice, and each log in takes well over a minute to register. Wont allow invoices to be downloaded on request. Absolutely horrendous!

A monthly subscription for cartridges is so 90's.

HP needs a reality check. A monthly subscription for cartridges is so 90's. Today's home office, there is less printing, more digital sharing. This cartridge festival is a waste of manpower and hardware because once the free trial ends, you're stuck with cartridges that you can no longer use and hence will dispose of.
And no, HP we will not put these in your cute recycling bags because we're so upset that you didn't tell us upright that the printer would stop working after trial ends.
This is a sham. HP change your business model and stop the waste. In our day and age of environmental conscience, HP is the opposite of that.

Crashes everytime I scan a document. Also it sometimes suddenly disconnects. I used to work with HP printers for years but this is probably the worst app I've worked with.

Waste of time and money

You're sent inks as part of your free trial of their Instant Ink subscription. But this is not mentioned anywhere (apart from those tiny T&Cs of course), that once you stop your subscription - your inks stop working as well. App is nonsense, hardly works and the printer is the same where it flashes error codes, but you have no idea what the issue is because it is not displayed anywhere in the app or web dashboard like they say it would.

Save your money and go with something else for a printer.

Have to pay £20 for getting customer service

I have used this printer for a while and it has stopped connecting to WiFi even thought I'm in front of the WiFi.
I tried to find out the reason as the printer just worked fine few days ago but since it's not connected to WiFi, it's not letting me to print anything....
The customer service is just AI and have to pay £20 to get this issue resolved.(which I don't trust if they would even try to fix this issue.)
So disappointed and hope people can avoid buying this brand as they clearly do not care about the users.
