Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the product, often describing it as unreliable and difficult to use. People frequently encountered issues with the app and website, finding them unresponsive and poorly designed, which made basic functions like printing or managing accounts frustrating. The subscription service also drew strong criticism, with many feeling it was unsatisfactory and made it impossible to use their printers effectively. Reviewers consistently reported problems with the printer's functionality, including connectivity issues, failure to recognize cartridges, and an inability to print despite being online and having ink. The process of setting up and troubleshooting was often described as lengthy and unhelpful, leading to a general sentiment of regret over purchasing HP products.

HP printers and HP smart you should…

HP printers and HP smart you should avoid at all costs. Recently bought an HP 2800e printer. Can only set up using HP smart and WIFI connection. Upon attempting to connect via wifi, it states it cannot connect as the printer can only connect to a 2.4GHz connection and the current wifi is 5GHz. Well that is funny because I have just connected the exact same printer on the exact same network on my phone and also the WIFI network properties show that it is in fact a 2.4GHz connection. So the HP app thinks the wifi is 5GHz when it is actually 2.4GHz. I am 28 by the way and this printer and app are impossible to work with. God knows how older/elderly people are meant to deal with this.

the HP Smart App is a totally useless…

the HP Smart App is a totally useless piece of garbage, and I'm being polite.
One day Desk Jet 2300 works fine, the next day nothing, simply can't print. The useless app tells me that my printer is no longer on their "approved" list - it's less than 2 years old.
No warning, nada from HP. Strongly suggest that HP fire their app developers. Stop trying to fix things that aren't broke.
Maybe give your users a choice if they want the new app or to stick with the old. But no, big daddy HP knows better - just another way to rob your pocket.
My HP Laptop will be garbaged along with any other HP product I have.
I live in an area where Wi-Fi is unreliable on a good day, and you expect me to use a printer that relies on a Wi-Fi connection. Stupid!
an EMP can't happen soon enough

HP Smart printer review.

HP Smart printer review.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. It is really a scam!

I bought a HP smart printer last year 2023, I had to register for a subscription for the ink, I chose the option of 50 pages for 4.99e/month. I did not print much, less than 10 papers a month. Therefore for 1 year they only sent me the ink once. But every month I had to pay 5 euros for the ink, and they said the unprinted papers can be accumulated for later use. After one year, I do not want to pay every month because I did not use much, I canceled my subscription, and I could not printer anymore, even though the ink was still full. And all the unprinted papers were gone, and they still charge me. I canceled on 6.7.2024, the subscription was ended on 8.7.2024, and they still charged my credit card on 10.7.2024. It took me so much time as effort to get refund.
So to save your money and energy and time, NEVER BUY HP SMART PRINT!

Will never buy HP again

Due to the uselessness of my HP printer thanks to this stupid app. I just wonder who people have moved over to. I will be going today to buy a new printer but always previously having bought HP I have no idea what to go for. This makes me sad and angry I have wasted my good money on a good printer that I can't use due to a rubbish app. I have to go to work in order to do my printing and then pay 10p per sheet its a ridiculous situation to be in. I can't tell you how many times this thing has let me down. It even decided to print something 6 hours after I asked it to recently. My daughter can print from her laptop but neither myself or my husband can. It won't speak to my phone either. I can't find a way to speak to a human being to ask for advice. Useless, useless, useless I just can't say it enough.

Cannot Understate the Frustration

Probably a twenty year user of HP printers...

I don't know who decided for HP to create a Windows app to be the only way to use their devices. A shambles of a decision

I have used HP printers for a very long time and been happy with the product. In the years since they forced everyone to use the Windows app, I have had constant problems:

* Printer offline - constant (several reboots of PC and printer and resetting the wireless will sometimes fix. Often just have to wait and try another day)
* Printer works but scanner doesn't (see fix above)

I cannot understate how poor this product is and how poor and limited the options to get support when trying to use the products

Unfortunately the printer itself is good and will last a long time because my next printer will definitely not be a HP

I wish there was minus stars to give…

I wish there was minus stars to give this software. From the date I have installed this, so many times I have had to waste so many hours to manage this stupid software. It either does not find the printers (when it is very much visible from print options of any other software), scanning will not work, it will logout without any cause or reason requiring me to login which will take ages with that "blue circle" forever circling, the ink level will be shown wrong, etc etc etc etc. And worst part, there is no way out for me to use the HP printer scanner other than this aboslute incredibly stupid software. In this time of AI and tech advancement, HP is still struggling with its basic "Print" software - which is mandatory!!!!!!!

No stars

No stars. I have been dealing with this garbage HP Smart system for a year and a half now, and I nearly threw my printer out of the window last night. ALWAYS offline, according to the software. But it’s not! Stuck in a current loop of error messages that I can’t even click out of. Have to force quit constantly. I am SO so so sorry that I bought an HP printer with this godforsaken software.

Kept Charging me after cancelling

So I opened my HP account and added on the paper plan. As soon as I received the paper it was such poor quality that I cancelled the paper plan.

To find out the next month I’d been charged for it. Which I then went through cancelling again.

After being charged another time I finally called them up after all the faf of the virtual assistant and trying to get through to an actual person.

They said they’ve cancelled it and I’m hoping that’s true but they refused to refund me even when I offered to send the paper back and said a manager was in a meeting and couldn’t leave any info for one to call me back.

The very first girl I talked to was lovely, the second girls English wasn’t very good and the third was rude as anything.

Not impressed at all.

I wish negative stars would be…

I wish negative stars would be possible.
Worst piece of **** EVER. Everything requires login and Murphy's law will have the login expire at the worst possible time.
Nothing works as it should. Never had one interaction with this piece of **** that didn't cause stress and delays.
Worst software ever by a long shot and I should know because I write freaking software for a living and even my software doesn't suck as much as the app that goes along with it. Who wrote up the requirements for the app? An orangutang that uses an Epson, probably, and never had to use the software he helped write?
How is.this even sold to people?
Shame on you, HP. I've been with you guys since before the www. Go way. Shoo. Never again. Bah.

check your charges when discontinuing service

For two months, I was charged an ink fee - I let them know my printer was not working during this time, and I bought a Canon in its place - they said they could see that four pages were used in May (it's now June 18th) and they have charged me twice since then. I let them know I tried printing on the HP in May, hence the four pages, but the pages were overprinted each time (4 pages). It's not a lot of cash they are charging ($7.41) as I don't use too many pages, but it's the principal and very frustrating to have such poor customer service despite communicating with them about this via email, etc.. Also, there is the distinct possibility they will charge me again - even though I let them know I no longer own that printer. I will warn all the folks I know to avoid their ink program. I was on this call for nearly 40 minutes while very annoying and awful music played in my ear. I was told several times they would not reimburse me but after 40 minutes and insisting they finally did. My time is worth more than this charge but its the principal of the thing.

Such a waste of money

Such a waste of money - doesn’t work, half my prints were trying to get the printer to work, then I get billed extra because I’ve gone over my monthly allowance - rubbish. Don’t be sucked into the six month free ink - it doesn’t work like that, they block you being able to print
